It was a normal day and Karina found herself doing her morning routine and getting ready for school, changing to her school uniform she skipped happily downstairs where she was greeted by her parents.

“Morning~” greeted Karina

“Morning” smiled her mom

As she dug down on her breakfast she couldn’t help but think of that one person whom occupied her mind for the last few weeks. Once she was finished she quickly stood up and waited outside her house as she knew by this time ‘he’ would be on his way to school as well and just like that she saw his figure coming closer.

“Hi Hikaru-kun” smiked Karina

The said boy didn’t greet back but just moved his head indicating that he’d acknowledge her presence, people would immediately get offended but Karina was already use to his harsh treatment as she’s been trying to stay by his side ever since that accident.

*Flashback*

Karina ran to the hospital as best as she could and found Hikaru slumped down on the floor, his shirt was covered in blood stains, her heart clenched as she reached out for him only to have her hands smacked away.

“I don’t need your pity” said Hikaru still had his head on his knees

Despite his state Karina shook her head and grabbed the poor boy and hugged him tightly against her small frame and listened to his painful cries.

“I should have held her, I shouldn’t have let her go” cried Hikaru “If I just held onto her longer she wouldn’t be gone now”

*End of Flashback*       

A sigh escaped her lips as she thought back that ever since then Hikaru’s changed from the used to be hyper boy to his current state where he no longer smiles, and his eyes don’t show anymore emotion, it was painful for her to watch Hikaru like this as she’s always loved the older boy. She made a promise with herself to get Hikaru back to his old self, it may take time but it will be worth it at the end. She noticed that they were already at school and stared at Hikaru’s figure ahead and went to her classroom.

“You know…Why don’t you give up on him?” asked a voice

Karina looked up and saw her friend Maya in front of her and let her head fall back on the desk, and answered her friend

“You know I can’t do that…” sighed Karina

“Suit yourself” smiled Maya and ruffled her friend’s hair

Time slowed down as Karina yawned and was so glad it was already the end of the day, walking outside with her friend Maya she spotted Hikaru in the opposite road with a smile she skipped to Hikaru not noticing the car that was heading her way.

“Karina!” shouted Maya

She stopped and with widened eye she closed her eyes only to be pushed by Hikaru, she was sure if Hikaru hadn’t been there she would have been a goner. She felt Hikaru standing up and tried to look at him only to find his eyes being half covered by his fringe.

“Hika-” before she said his name he ran off

Its been a week since the accident and Karina noticed Hikaru avoiding her and she thought that he might have been just shaken up from the experience but things going she found herself being frustrated by his action and when she spotted his figure she grabbed the unsuspecting boy to the rooftop to confront him

“Why are you avoiding me?!” demanded Karina who glared at the boy and waited for his explanation

“What do you know?” whispered Hikaru making her frown

“What? I can’t hear you” said Karina urging the guy to speak louder

“What do you know? You never lost anyone before” shouted Hikaru which was enough to push Karina to the edge

He looked at the shaken girl in front of him he was frustrated that the girl he’d try so hard to push away nearly got into the same situation as ‘her’. He shivered of the thought of Karina dying in front of him and he didn’t like it, at first he was annoyed at her persistence but as time goes he slowly and unconsciously found himself being attracted to her.

“You might be right but seeing you like this is hell” shouted Karina “I wish you just see the good things not the bad things all the time”

By now, the two started arguing with each other and tears fell on her plump cheeks as she felt herself getting furious at Hikaru, then she felt herself pushing the older boy and pinning him on the wall before embracing the boy warmly in her arms, trying her utmost best to convey that everyone needs someone and that just because you lost  one person doesn't mean that you lose everything.

She was heartbroken and she wasn’t crying for herself but for the boy who blames himself for an inevitable death of a close one, and each tears he shed forms a crack on her heart. She wanted to open Hikaru’s heart one more time and show him that even the most saddest story has a happy ending, and that every person deserves to be happy including him. Slowly Karina moved away from Hikaru and making her way up to the side of the rooftop.

“If it makes you better I don’t mind disappearing and I’ll take all your troubles with me” cried Karina as she got closer to the edge, noticing what she was about to do Hikaru ran up and dragged the girl back down with him.

“Idiot!” shouted Hikaru hugging the smaller frame closer to him “If you disappear you won’t take my troubles with you…You’ll just add to them!”

With this Karina just cried and clenched her fist in Hikaru’s shirt and mumbled the words of ‘I love you’s’ to Hikaru, as the boy continued to soothe her before completely tiring herself out and fell into dreamland.

*Hikaru’s POV*

“I’m sorry” I whispered 

I was scared at first because there’s no such things as forever, because someday there will be a time where you have to part with your special person, and that isn’t something I never again want to experience.

“I didn’t want to lose anyone any more that’s I purposely pushed you away” I quietly told you as I run my fingers in your soft locks “But you persisted so now you have to take responsibility”

This is so ironic I used to think I won’t be regarding anyone as something important to me but now the feel of you in my arms like this, feel right and I won’t trade it for the world. I know one day I will be physically taken away from you but nevertheless until that time comes I will protect you with my very own hands.
