Yukwon never believed in love at first sight…until he fell for Lee Minyoung.  She spent most of her time in the library, believe it or not, reading and doing homework.  Despite the fact that she was the second best student in their year, according to the rumors, she had a strange obsession with ramyun.  People even speculated that she loved ramyun more than boys and school combined.  It was probably true.

In fact, Yukwon was headed to the library anyway, just to try and catch a glimpse of her, along with a friend from another class.

“Don’t you think this borderlines obsession?” His friend nudged him.  “I mean, you could just talk to her, dude, but you’re pretty much stalking her instead.”

“Shut up.”

“Just saying.  When you get in trouble for watching her eat and read, I’m going to make fun of you.”

The two walked into the library, lowering their voices to the appropriate volume.  Yukwon scanned the room for Minyoung and couldn’t help but smile when he saw her sleeping with her head on a desk.

“I’ll hook you two up.” His friend smirked. 

Yukwon turned in interest.  “Huh?”

“I borrowed her pen earlier today.  You can go return it to her, if you want.”

His eyes lit up.  “You’d do that for me?”

“Since you’re so desperate and all.”

 “Thanks!  I owe you one.”

“But as your friend, let me warn you about her.  She’s weird.”

“I figured that out after I fell for her.” Yukwon fidgeted with the pen.  “The rumors aren’t hard to miss.”

“And her twin brother is just as weird.”

“He can’t be that bad, if he has a sister like that.”

His friend shook his head.  “No, dude, I don’t think you understand.  You don’t get along with her brother at all.”

“I know him?”

“Yeah, he’s—”

“!  She’s looking at me!  What do I do?  What do I do?  I thought she was sleeping!”

“Act normal for once, Yukwon.  Give her the pen too.”

However, as Minyoung stared at him, Yukwon couldn’t do anything more than stare back.  She smiled slightly when he caught her eye.  Then she stood up, books in hand, and walked out of the library.  His friend whacked him on the head, grumbling about the pen, but Yukwon could only think of Minyoung: the way she walked and the smell of her strawberry shampoo as she walked by.  Everything about her overwhelmed him.

“Idiot.” His friend rolled his eyes.

Yukwon grinned. “You’re just jealous.”

“I heard she had a boyfriend too.”

“Had?”

“I think they broke up or something.”

“Huh.”

“What do you mean by that?”

“I have a chance!”

“You know, your older brother’s right.  You are crazy.  Go home and take a nap, dude.  You should take a break from everything.”

Yukwon hated math, even though he excelled in it, because of Lee Minhyuk.  The guy seemed to have something against Yukwon, because he glared at him every single time they made eye contact.  Nothing physical happened between the two, but Yukwon remained alert every day, just in case something happened.  Not to mention the fact that Minhyuk loved kicking Yukwon’s chair.

Yukwon sat near the back of the room, aimlessly tapping his pencil on his desk, in an attempt to stay awake.  He wondered why teachers got mad at students for sleeping in class.  He also wondered what Minyoung was doing, although he tried to push those thoughts out of his head so that he could focus.

Just then, someone else’s pencil poked the back of his head.  A voice then whispered, “Hey Yukwon.”

“Yeah?” He didn’t have to turn to recognize Minhyuk’s voice.

“I know your secret.”

“Huh?”

“Never mind.  That was just to get your attention.  What’s the answer to the last question?”

“That’s cheating, Minhyuk.”

“No one will know unless you tell them.”

“Aren’t you supposed to be some kind of a genius?” Yukwon scoffed, returning to his own set of math problems.  However, Minhyuk started to kick his chair, softly at first, but it got to the point where Yukwon couldn’t take it anymore.  “Fine!  I’ll help you with your stupid math problem!”  Then, he scribbled down the answer and handed it to Minhyuk.  “Here!  Are you happy?”

However, Minhyuk started to grin.  His grin got wider.  He didn’t say anything.

Yukwon tilted his head to the side in confusion.  “What are you smiling at?”

“Well,” Minhyuk replied, “All of your yelling has caused the rest of the class to stare, including the teacher.  I think that’s funny.”

“Huh?”

“Look around, Yukwon.  Everyone is staring.  The teacher is coming this way.  You should really stop yelling at me if you want to stay out of trouble.”  Minhyuk looked like he was having the time of his life.

The teacher was, in fact, walking up to the two boys with a stern expression.  Yukwon sank down in his seat, and Minhyuk leaned back in his. 

“Kim Yukwon, Lee Minhyuk, detention after school.”

“Huh, that’s no good,” Minhyuk replied quickly.  “I have things to do after school.  How about tomorrow or something?”

“You should’ve thought about that before interrupting the lesson,” the teacher said.  “Mr. Kim, do you have any complaints?”

Yukwon quickly shook his head.  “No ma’am.”

After school, Yukwon pushed his way through the crowds of students, looking for a place to put his backpack down.  To his delight, the only open spot was next to none other than Lee Minyoung herself.  Yukwon paused to look in the reflection of the glass, checking to see if his hair looked all right and to see if he had anything stuck in his teeth.  He didn’t.

However, as he was walking toward her, another guy made his way up to the tree under which she sat.  Yukwon watched, horrified, as Minyoung received a confession from a guy he didn’t know at all.  He was sure that she’d accept his confession, since he was good looking, but something seemed strange about it all.  She looked sad, as if something bothered her about the confession.  Yukwon smiled in relief and continued on his way toward her, passing the guy she rejected on the way.

“May I sit here?”

“Sure,” came the reply.

“Thanks.”

He placed his backpack down and sat under the tree, close enough to feel like he was sitting next to her, but far enough so that neither of them would get uncomfortable.

“I’m Yukwon, by the way.”

“Oh, I know,” she replied.  “You transferred here at the beginning of the term.  All of the girls in my class squeal about your good looks.  Even my brother talks about you sometimes.”

“Really?” Yukwon didn’t know he was that popular amongst girls.

She nodded.

“I saw the guy that confessed to you.”

“Really?” She seemed more amused than surprised.

He nodded.  “But you turned him down.”

“Yeah.”

“Oh.”

He wanted to ask her so many questions—if she really had a boyfriend, if she really was ranked second in the year, and if she really had an addiction to ramyun.  However, he remembered detention, Minhyuk, and all of the things that made his day miserable, and he knew he had to be on his way.

“I should probably get going.” Yukwon stood up, brushing the dirt off of the back of his pants before grabbing his backpack.

“Where?”

“Detention.”

“Hey.”

He tilted his head to the side.  “Yeah?”

“Oh, nothing.”

“Well, I’ll see you around, Minyoung.”

“You too, Kim Yukwon.”

Yukwon reluctantly made his way over to the classroom and took an empty seat near the front, hoping that Minhyuk would stick to the back row.  Because Yukwon never sat this close to the board, the new perspective was interesting and refreshing.  He was too immersed in how close everything was to notice that Minhyuk was late.

“Hey,” Minhyuk called out from the doorway.

His voice caused Yukwon to check the clock.  “You’re late.”

“I had things to do.”

“Such as?”

“Find my sister.”

“You have a sister?” Yukwon asked.  He couldn’t imagine Minhyuk having someone he actually cared about, much less a sibling.

“Are you surprised?” Minhyuk replied.  “Does it seem like I’m an only child?”

“Not at all.”

“Then let me introduce her to you.”  Minhyuk stepped out of the room and called out to someone while Yukwon watched in curiosity.  He heard footsteps pounding through the empty hallway and then a face peered through the doorway.

Yukwon froze, and he could feel his heartbeat increasing—this time, in a bad way.  He didn’t want her to actually see him in detention.

“Meet my twin.” Minhyuk gestured toward a girl with a cup of ramyun in her hand.  “Her name is Minyoung, if you didn’t know already.”

Yukwon couldn’t speak.

“Do I really have to repeat myself?” Minhyuk replied coolly.  “Anyway, the reason why I couldn’t make it was because I was planning on going somewhere with Minyoung today.  Since she insists on joining me here, though, I guess I have no excuse to ditch.”

Minyoung sort of waved in Yukwon’s direction before placing her stuff down next to Minhyuk’s.  Yukwon stared at the two, noticing their similarities for the first time.  They both had the same face shape, but Minyoung’s eyes were slightly bigger than Minhyuk’s.  Besides that, Yukwon chided himself for not discovering their connection sooner.

That strange sibling bond started everything.
