“Why can’t you tell me??”

“Seulgi, please calm down..”

“Irene, I’m sorry.. I can’t do this anymore.”

“Please… no…”

“I’m sorry.”

“I’m begging you. Please don’t leave me!!!”

The door closed.

“…Seulgi please.” Irene sobs.

(Present Day)

“Eonni, you need to stop remembering that day.”

“No.”

“You’re just hurting yourself.”

“…I don’t care.”

“Well I do!”

Irene was shaken vigorously by her friend.

“Yeri… that’s my only memory of Seulgi’s face.”

The day Seulgi left was the day Irene got into an accident. Her car was hit by a truck while chasing the person who broke her heart into a million pieces. The only memory she has before the accident was that moment Seulgi walked out.

“Eonni… I know that… but it’s been 3 years…”

“I… don’t want to forget…”

“I can’t stand it… it’s breaking your heart over and over and over again. You don’t even remember if your relationship was any good.”

“It was.”

“And how do you even know that??”

“…” Irene clenched her fists.

“(Sigh).. Just finish your food eonni. We need to get back to calibrating the machine.”

Irene nods.

(3 weeks later)

“Eonni, you look awful..” Yeri teased.

“I want to say that I lack sleep but honestly I’ve been sleeping too much.”

“Let me guess… Seulgi?”

Irene smiled halfheartedly. “In my dreams I could hear her laugh… or at least how I think she sounds like laughing..”

“Haha! Eonni what if that’s not her laugh??”

“Hehehe that will be scary to be honest!” She pushed her friend. “I need to find her soon..”

“Mhm.. So you can stop moping while computing.” Yeri pushed back earning a giggle from the older girl.

“Kang Seulgi show yourself already!!” Irene jokes.

“Well anyway, thanks for coming along eonni. I know its weird to invite you to a funeral… it will be quick.”

Irene nods.

Yeri walks in front of Irene and faced her. “I really don’t like my stepdad… so I don’t care that he passed on… but I can’t leave my mother alone.” She starts walking backwards, not seeing what’s behind her. “Plus cemeteries are scary af!”

“Mhm. You should watch where you’re going. You might trip.”

Yeri trips that second.

“Ow!”

“Hehe I told you! Get up! You’re on top of someone’s grave.” 

Yeri jumps, freaked out. She bows apologetically at the grave. “Sorry about—…”

“Hehe you okay?” Irene saw her friend turn pale. “Yeri? What’s wrong?”

Yeri’s face was grim.

Irene decides to look at the grave stone. 

“Kang Seulgi…” her knees give, she falls on the ground.

“Eonni… I-I don’t know what to say.”

“…She’s gone.” Irene weeped.

(A week later)

The phone rings.

“…”

“Irene eonni… aren’t you coming back to work?”

“…”

“How are you today?”

“…”

“Eonni, I’m really worried.. Come back. We can do this.”

“…”

“You worked hard on this.. It could help!”

The call was dropped.

Yeri wanted to cry. She felt helpless, unable to do anything for her friend. She breathes in and composed herself. She wipes the tears forming in the corner of her eyes and focused on the work.

(3 more weeks pass)

Irene was on her bed, not moving. She heard really loud pounding at her door. She looks at the clock. 1am. She covers herself with the blanket, trying to block out the sounds.

“EONNI! IT’S ME!!! OPEN THE DOOR!!!”

Irene didn’t move.

“IF YOU DON’T OPEN THIS DAMN DOOR…I SWEAR TO GOD I’M GOING TO SHAVE YOUR EYE BROWS!!”

The door opens.

“EONNI!!!” She hugs her friend. “Get dressed right now!”

Irene stares at her with a blank expression.

“Oh god… eonni! It’s working!”

“Huh?”

“The machine is working!!!”

“…liar.”

“Eonni! It really is!!! The time machine is running!!”

Irene’s eyes started to swell.

“NONE OF THAT CRYING! GET DRESSED NOW! LETS GO!!!!”

Irene hurriedly got dressed. “W-what should I wear?!?!”

“I don’t know… go back in time , I don’t give a . Just hurry up.”
