Lightning Waits
Lightning Waits“What are you doing?”
The girl doesn’t respond.
“Are you praying or something?”
Still nothing.
“It’s quite windy today isn’t it?”
The girl glanced at the talkative stranger then looks straight up again.
“Are you trying to fly?”
The girl scoffs.
“Humans can’t fly… just letting you know in case you forgot.”
“Go away.”
“Oh! You can speak!” The stranger walked up right next to the girl. She drops her bag, sat down and hugged her knees.
“I said go away.”
“Hmm I like windy days.”
The girl rolls her eyes.
“I’m Seulgi.” She smiles brightly.
The girl ignored her.
“I hope you don’t mind but I’ll wait right here with you.”
“I do mind.”
Seulgi hums while stretching her arms.
They stay silent for a while. Only the sound of the wind rushing pass them could be heard.
“The wind feels great, right?”
The girl doesn’t respond.
“Your hair is a little messy now.”
The girl sighs. “Can you sit somewhere else?”
Seulgi shakes her head. “I like it here.”
The girl looked annoyed but stayed silent.
A few more minutes pass.
“What are we waiting for?” Seulgi asked curiously.
“WE are NOT waiting!! I-AM-WAITING!”
“For what?”
“Lightning.”
“Oh…”
They stay quiet.
“Err… hmm.” Seulgi scratched her head then looks at the girl.
The girl side eyes her.
“Mmm…hmmm… errmm”
“What?!” The girl says irritated.
“Well.. Why are we waiting for lightning?”
“Will you just leave me alone!”
Silence.
“Lightning, huh?… so that’s why you stand on this cliff everyday.”
The girl was a little surprised that this stranger knew she was there everyday.
“We’ll be here a while then…” This time Seulgi sighs.
“I didn’t ask you to wait with me.”
“You could have… but it doesn’t matter I’m here already.”
They stay quiet.
“You know this isn’t the highest point in the area…” Seulgi points to her right. “See that windmill? There! That area is the highest point.”
The girl looked at her, confused.
“Let’s wait for lightning there tomorrow!” Seulgi smiles.
“You idiot. You don’t even know why I’m waiting for lightning.”
“Yea ‘cos you won’t tell me.” She pouts.
Seulgi only heard the girl sigh deeply. She hugged her knees tighter and looked at the girl.
“The view here is amazing.”
“Not really.” The girl said blandly. “The endless
