Clueless

The day after Yesung first stalked me was extraordinarily peaceful. Don't tell me it's a weird way to put it; I work in a hospital and my days pass with hysterical compainons of the patients and emergency cases. Today, though, I discharged four of my patients and accepted one normal patient. Also there were no emergency which, in itself, was a mini-miracle.

When my shift was over, I wore my new coat - the one that Hye Jung made me buy - and left the hospital after waving everyone goodbye. Most of my coworkers here stayed about two more hours - overtime, you know. It seemed popular. But I didn't want that at all today. I had a long surgery to attend to the next morning. I simply wanted my fair share of rest.

Completely opposite of yesterday, the clouds seemed to have invaded the sky today - the wind wasn't helping either. Luckily I had my hair tied up in a ponytail so it didn't come into my mouth or something. I thought calling a cab; but the weather wasn't that bad yet so a bus would also do. I don't like wasting money. I doubted I would have to wait long until my bus arrived anyways. If the weather wasn't bad, I'd walk - my house wasn't that far from the hospital.

I walked towards the bus stop. There were almost no one on the streets for not many people went home at this hour and the weather forecast said there could be a small storm today. So it was impossible to miss the figure sitting on the bench, dressed all in black. But it was also impossible for me to care. You never know what reasons people might have for sitting out in the cold. I kept walking down the street full speed, not wanting my hands to get any colder. Until I felt the same strange feeling of being watched that I remembered from yesterday. When I stopped and turned around, though, the street wasn't empty.

Despite his face being mostly covered by his black leather cap that had pieces to cover the ears and was furry inside - I really don't know if those have a special name - I could tell it was him just by the way he stood in front of me, just a few feet away. His hands were in his pockets again. He was wearing a leather jacket and black pants with black caterpillar boots on his feet. Completely black, just like a shadow. I sighed.

"Good evening to you too." I said, tucking my hands in my pockets impatiently. Why had I left my gloves and hat at home? Just a scarf wasn't enough. I hated the wind. "I'm guessing: you were waiting for me. How long have you been waiting here?" I continued. I saw a smile forming on his lips.

"Long enough for my face to go numb?" he tried.

"Did you plan on stalking me all the way home again?" I asked with a half-smile on my face.

"Not this time." he replied. I sighed and chuckled, started walking towards him. He met me midway.

"Don't you have anything else to do?" I said, "Like variety shows, radio shows, album recordings, shootings... stuff you idols do. Are you that free?"

"Not usually." he tilted his head a little, "But I'm free for a while today and I want to pay you back for the breakfast."

"Huh?" I said, puzzled. I really couldn't see what was in his mind.

"Let me take you out for dinner today, so we'll be even." he smiled beautifully. What a player. But I'd be lying if I said I had no intention of accepting his offer.

"This not about that, is it?" I chuckled, "Seriously, why are you doing this?"

"Doing what?"

"Following me around? Asking me out? Stalking me?" I tried.

"Well... I don't know, I just... I can't help it, that's all." he said and fixed his hat with an apologetic smile. Just like the day before, I instanly believed his sincerity. He didn't know why, his answer couldn't change even if I asked further. I sighed and smiled.

"You're not gonna stop asking even if I say no, are you?" I said.

"Nope." he said, proudly, "Not until you say yes."

"Fine. Where are we going?"

The place he'd taken me was no match to my poor breakfast table. Mine would have cost a few thousand won at most. This place looked so classy, so expensive; it was one of those places that had seperate rooms for their customers - and Yesung had one reserved for two. I looked around surprisedly as a waiter led us to the little room. The place was mostly colored with different shades of brown, cream and red. It was small and pretty.

I sat in front of Yesung, in front of the low table. I didn't kneel, I cannot kneel, I crossed my legs instead - something I was used to doing from my childhood in Turkey. The waiter gave us the menu and left me alone with the beautiful man in front of me, who was basically watching me again. I tried to ignore the feeling of being stared at and tied to concentrate. I read down the menu, checking the prices at the same time, thinking if I should simply leave and convince him to treat me ramyun. It was just too expensive for me to feel comfortable choosing. A short while passed with silence.

"What do you think?"

"Hm?" I raised my eyes from the menu. He was looking at me with a slight smile. "What?"

"What do you think, what do you want to order?" he repeated. I looked back at the menu. To tell the truth, I really had no idea about it; I really didn't want to order anything but water anymore. But I didn't want to be rude either. I sighed and raised my eyes back.

"I don't know. You choose. I eat basically anything as long as it's dead." I said. That live octopus thing I tried last year had me puking for half an hour straight. Totally terrifying. He chuckled.

"You tried Sannakji, I assume?" he said.

"If that's the name of the living and wiggling tiny octopus thing, I guess I did." I said, wrinkling my nose in disgust. He chuckled again.

"Then, I'll choose for both of us." he smiled, "I hope I don't make you regret."

"Try your hardest. Don't choose too spicy or you'll need to eat it all." I chuckled and put down the menu as he concentrated on the menu this time, with a small wrinkle between his brows. I joined my hands under my chin and leaned my elbows on the low table. Now it was my turn to watch him.

No matter how I looked at him, he looked absolutely perfect. The way his eyes slanted upwards a little, the way the shadow of his eyelashes fell, the way his extremely silky-looking brown hair partially closed his eyes, the way his lips plumped when he was thinking, the way his nose looked so perfect like it was shaped by a professional sculptor... even the way the neck of his turtleneck wrinkled. Just everything about him looked so impossibly perfect. It made me wonder again; why exactly was he stalking someone like me? What was the purpose? Was this a game or hobby or something to him?

"Did you make your decision?" the waiter entered the small room, breaking my pink halo framed moment of adoring Yesung's perfection. We both turned to look at the waiter at the same time, then I turned to look at Yesung, waiting for him to talk. He ordered the food pretty quickly - which I missed as I watched his lips move. When he handed the menus to the waiter and turned to me, I tried to shake off this idiocy. What was wrong with me?

"Did you not like my choice?" he smiled at me. Did my face look that grim?

"I didn't really listen. I'm just interested in getting my stomach full." I heard myself reply with a smile. Really, where did I find these kind of answers from? I was mostly sure it wasn't me who answered at such times. No, I wasn't complaining.

"Oh... haha, good thing I ordered more than I usually do then." he countered with a deep chuckle. Smooth. I smiled back. We started chatting about meaningless stuff after that, until the waiter came back in, bringing a delicious smell along. As he placed the plates on the table, my attention focused totally on what was inside them.

I dug in, not waiting for him. The food was practically melting on my tongue, leaving a heavenly taste. I kept eating until I felt the sensation o being watched overpowered the bliss in my stomach. Then I looked at Yesung properly, who was watcing me with a slight smile on his lips.

"Aren't you gonna eat?" I said, putting another piece of shrimp to emphasize what I just said. He looked surprised, grabbed his chopsticks.

"No, I'm eating." he said and took his first bite. I shrugged and kept eating. Part of my mind wondered if he was even aware that he was watching me. Other parts of my mind were too busy to care.

"Ahh, I think I'll explode!" I sighed when I finished. My stomach was visibly swollen.

"You ate a whole lot." Yesung stated.

"Because you were going to let them go to waste!" I retorted. I'm obsessed with food going to waste so sue me. I can't leave anything in a plate.

"Who told you to eat them all?" Yesung chuckled, jokingly.

"I hate any kind of waste, I can't leave anything in a plate." I shrugged, "And you do eat very little."

"I need to control my weight, right?" he smiled, "And it feels more comfortable with a not-exploding stomach." he said.

"I'm sure it does." I sighed. "I think I need to take a walk home or I won't be able to sleep tonight."

"I thought I'd give you a ride." Yesung said.

"I hate to refuse; but I'll walk home." I replied. He looked disappointed.

"Oh... then, can I get your number?" he said.

"My cell number?" I said, then thought about it for a while. Did I really wanted to give my stalker my phone number? But he was a idol, right? I could do worse to him if he tried anything.

"Sure." I gave him my number. He gave his to me too. I saved it as "Kim Stalker" though, instead of Yesung. Think how my friends would freak out if they knew I had Yesung's phone number. Even the thought was enough to make me laugh.

We chatted a little more after that, until I said I should go. Yesung looked too free to me; but I didn't really think he was as free as he looked. He was most probably making time for me; but why? I had a good guess; but come on! How can it be?

"But isn't is dangerous?" he said when I told him that I was really gonna walk. It was dark already.

"I'll be just fine. I'll take a bus after I walk a little." I said.

"Do you want me to walk with you?" he offered.

"I'll be fine, don't worry." I said, smiling. I had no idea why I had rejected him; but I'd feel more comfortable this way though I had a feeling he'd stalk me anyways. In the end, he accepted it. He paid for the dinner as he'd said - without even letting me see the bill which I'd probably freak out if I had seen - and I went out first.

As I walked towards the closest bus stop - which wasn't very near - I felt the same sensation I remembered from this evening. I snorted, didn't even turn around to see who it was, I knew I was right. I saw there was a bus waiting at the stop, so I just got on it. I seated myself next to the window, watched the road when the bus started to move. Just as I expected, I saw a black figure walking back towards the restaurant. He turned away and pulled his hat down as the bus passed next to him. I chuckled quietly in the bus; did he really believe he'd hide from me with that?

I sighed. I was starting to think this was cute. Having a stalker suddenly didn't seem like a bad thing. It felt warmer instead. Call me crazy; but even if it's the idol of your life, a stalker is a stalker and it still feels uncomfortable. It made me nervous; but after today, it made me feel more curious than nervous. I smiled. I was starting to wonder what he'd do next.
