Beautiful night
My DearIt's already getting dark outside, as Jongwoon sorts the last few papers on his desk before he can call it a day, and leaving his office. Although dark, it is still early afternoon in the middle of December, but he doesn't want to work overtime. Not today. Not on a Friday during christmas season, he gave his word to Ryeowook.
Putting some file folders back in their place, there's a light knock on the open door, and Jongwoon lifts his gaze to meet Choi Siwon, smiling at him. But his coworker's dimples drop, realizing the closed laptop and the clean surface of the desk.
"You're already done for today? I was hoping you can join us for an after work drink, later. After all it's Friday"
"Not today. I promised Ryeowook to buy a christmas tree, this afternoon." The father explains with a soft voice, like always when he talks about his little son.
Siwon blinks, "Just now? Weeks ago people went like crazy to buy christmas trees."
"You know how we are all tied up here. I couldn't get enough time beforehand." Jongwoon's features turn into a rueful expression, while his eyes fall on a cute child's drawing, where a giraffe's putting a star from the sky on top of a christmas tree.
Following the other man's gaze, the taller male chuckles, "Is this Wookie's newest one?"
"Yeah."
"It's adorable, like all of his paintings."
That's something Siwon really likes about Kim Jongwoon's office. While everyone around here tape the walls with certificates, no one really cares about, the proud dad framed his office with the drawings of his little son. It expresses what a loving father this single parent is, and it always warms Siwon's heart. Especially when he recalls the time, his coworker and friend turned into a single dad, from one day to the other.
Jongwoon and Siwon started at the advertising company around the same time. The older man was always very ambitious and committed, becoming a father at a young age, but he seemed happy. Then the day came when the other had a breakdown in front of everyone. It was Siwon who took him out for lunch and with heavy hiccups, Jongwoon told him about his failure as a family man.
From that on he supported the single father, in keeping their strict workload, taking over one or the other pile of paper, so that Jongwoon got the time to take care of his little baby boy.
And with time, two simple coworkers became friends, who always count on each other. And in Siwon's eye Jongwoon is doing an amazing job as single dad, whoever wants to say something else shouldn't dare, tall male will give them a lecture.
With Jongwoon letting a folder go into his briefcase, the younger understands the other has finished cleaning the office, "Anyway, I wish you good luck with the christmas tree. And I hope my little buddy won't be disappointed." The older lets out a husky laugher, "I hope so, too. See you on Monday, Siwon."
"Yeah, see you."
Walking down the corridor into the elevators direction, Jongwoon hears his friend's calling after him, "By the way, what is Wookie wishing for christmas?" Looking over his shoulder, the father smiles softly while saying, "Snow."
At the kindergarten, little Ryeowook is busy with scissors and glue when his appa arrives, but drops the tools when the low, raspy voice is calling out for him.
