The Last Love Song [ReitaXRuki] Oneshot

“Reita. Reita, wake up.”A low, husky voice tried to wake him up.“Ugh…Ruki?” Reita slowly woke up and looked at his clock beside his bed.“Gosh, Ruki. It’s only five-thirty in the morning…Get some more sleep will you?” “I can’t. I’m fully-charged. If I get more sleep, I will be overcharged.” Ruki giggled at the joke he made.“Not funny, Ruki. Now get back to sleep.” Reita turned over, burying his face in the pillow. Ruki mad a sad face. “…But I want to spend more time with you.” Reita mad an annoyed grunt. “You have a whole day to spend with me. Now go to bed!”Ruki frowned and cuddled into Reita’s bed.“Hey, hey, hey! Get out! You have your own bed, chibi! Move!”Ruki looked up. “So what?” He pouted.Reita gave up. “Oh, fine. Do whatever you want.” and he turned over, facing his back on Ruki. Ruki, who was ignored, whispered in his ear. “I don’t have much time left, Reita.”
Reita suddenly jerked out of his bed. “WHAT?” “Today is the last day...about 18hours? I think that’s it.” Reita bit his bottom lip. He thought about last Thursday, when Ruki came back to Reita after he died.

Ruki has died last Tuesday. He was coming back from his part-time job, and a motorcycle hit him. Just like that, he died. Reita, who was his lover and a roommate, had cried and cried in his room, burying his face in Ruki’s photos. Reita spent whole day in his house silently. He neither contacted anyone nor answered calls. At Thursday night 8:30, two days after Ruki’s death, when Reita was dozing in Ruki’s room, Ruki appeared right in front of him. Reita was shocked. His lover, who he thought was dead, was standing in front of him, smiling at him. Reita eyes filled up with tear as he hugged him tight. “You missed me?” Ruki asked in a dreamy voice that echoed around in his head. “Yes…I missed you…a lot.” Reita sobbed out, cuddling Ruki. Since that day, Ruki was living with Reita again, just as before he died. And almost a week has past, and Ruki thinks it’s time to go back.

“Can’t you stay a little longer?” Reita begged, and Ruki let out a sigh. “You know I can’t change how things are, Rei. A week was the limit, and no more.” “But…but…” Reita’s eyes welled up with tear. “At least we have a day left, huh?” Ruki smiled. “Let’s make today the best day of our lives!”
They spent the whole day together. They did simple things like playing video games, taking walk; go have a drink at a bar, and so on. But they felt better then ever. Reita tried to keep his thoughts away from his Ruki disappearing and so did Ruki.

When they came back home it was already 8:15 p.m. and they were sitting face to face in their living room. “Only fifteen minutes left huh?” Reita asked. “Good times go by fast.” Ruki answered. Reita looked so sad. Then Ruki changed the subject. “Oh yeah, I made a song for you Reita!” “A song?” “Yes, I named it, Cassis.” Ruki said proudly and Reita chuckled. “Cassis? Isn’t that a kind of liquor?” Ruki picked up his guitar he used to practice a bit before he died. “Remember we went to a bar the day before I died? The one I drank that day was Cassis. I came back and wrote this song. I hope you like it.” Ruki cleared his throat , played the intro, and started singing.…ずっと繰り返してた　ずっと悲しませてばかりだった…

明日あなたの気持ちが離れてもきっと変わらず愛している…As Ruki sang the chorus, Reita started crying. He looked up and saw that Ruki’s legswere already fading out. He was flustered. “Ruki! Your legs!!” But Ruki just smiled and kept on singing. That made Reita cry even more. “Ruki, Ruki! Please…no…don’t go…Ruki…”

By the time the song was finished, he wasn’t visible from the waist down. Reita burst into tears and hugged Ruki tightly. “Ruki…Ruki…” Ruki chuckled. “So…did you like the song?” Reita nodded frantically. “Yes, yes. I loved it, Ruki.” Ruki smiled. “I’m glad you like it.” He held up his half-transparent hands and cupped Reita’s cheeks. He closed his eyes and kissed him softly on the lips. He could still feel Reita’s tear rolling sown his cheeks for a moment. When their lips finally separated, Reita found out that Ruki’s waist was gone along with the legs. “Ruki…Ruki…I’ll miss you so much, Ruki…” Ruki smiled faintly. “I’ll miss you too, Reita,” upper part of his body was fading. “ I’ll really, really miss you, so much.” “Ru..Ruki…” Reita was choking on his tears. “I..I…” He sobbed even more. “Ruki…Ruki… I…” Ruki was already transparent. “Ruki…! Ruki…I…I really truly…love you.”
When Reita finished the sentence, Ruki disappeared. Only a faint smile and a echoing voice was left.
