Description

"At a full moon during a high tide, close your eyes and feel the sea breeze onto your face. You'll hear a mermaid's voice, after a while."

"You might be able to fool yourself, but you can never fool the Tree."

"Thanks for the friendship. It was fun until it lasted."

"Once consumed with greed, people tend to forget where they came from."

"I'm sorry, I was wrong. She didn't die! She found her love and they live happily ever after!"

"I can't stop. Not now, not when I'm left with nothing at all!"

"Everyone else is fighting their own battles. So you should know better not to judge them."

Foreword

"Tell me because I freakin' need to understand!"

Jungwoo threw his weighty bag on the couch first thing once he entered his flat. Jioh lagged behind him like a snail, scowling at the ground.

Telling him would only complicate things, though.

Casting a wary glance at his body that was approaching the middle of the room, she asked, "are you mad?" Quietly but enough for him to hear.

Arriving at the middle of the living room, Jungwoo raised both his hands on his hips, looking up the ceiling in annoyance.

He was mad beyond belief.

He huffed for a few times, alternately closing and opening his eyes as if the gesture would be able to calm him down.

Sensing that the girl near the door was probably waiting for his answer, he spared her a glance but didn't made any effort to shift his head to face her.

The moment their eyes met, Jioh automatically regarded him with an uneasy smile and once again, the twenty year old guy had his eyes clenching shut. He rubbed the back of neck, trying to ease the frustration he's feeling.

He was a nonchalant guy so he was currently facing the biggest crisis of his life.

He blew a blowfish after reopening his eyes, looking up the ceiling again. "What now?" He mused. "Not gonna say anything?"

At his tone, his companion instantly jutted out her lower lip, looking down on the floor. "Telling you would only complicate things..." She mumbled, playing with her fingers that was situated in front of her.

He shot her a menacing glare after scoffing. "Oh really? Well not telling me will much more complicate things," he spat.

This time, she looked up at him, sensing that he had a lot more to say.

"How about I tell you on the police, hm? Mind you, you do not have any means of identification with you. Automatically, they'll have you jailed and you will never be able to find who you're looking for. You won't be able to go with me to the university." He crossed his arms as he arched one brow at her.

He knows he was blackmailing her to get her to speak but he can't be blamed, right? After the chase earlier, he had concluded that there was really something off with Do Jioh's character.

Who knows, she might be a member of a syndicate or an ex-con.

He just wants to be sure he's not keeping a criminal in his apartment.

Hearing the words 'police' and 'university', a frown immediately made its made to her innocent-looking face. She didn't like the idea of being left in a police station again so her brows immediately pinched together.

"What?" Jungwoo mocked. "Cat got your tongue?"

He was caught off guard, however, when she all of a sudden charged towards him, snaking her arms with his, dragging him somewhere in the room.

Wah, where is she taking me?

Is she going to kill me?

Panic immediately rose up his system when he presumed that she was bringing him closer to the bathroom.

"Y-y-yah! Where are you taking me?!" He hollered, trying his best to break free from her iron grip hold.

Where she got that strength, he doesn't know.

"I'm telling you! geez," she paused from pulling Jungwoo to glare at him one last time.

I thought he wants to know?!

Almost instantly, a triumphant smile grazed his lips.

〰〰〰

Indeed, the girl had brought Jungwoo to his bathroom. However, the pair became quiet ever since the confrontation earlier.

The guy sat by the bathroom door, his head resting on both his palms as he eyed her blankly.

She told him she's telling him so why was she preparing the tub?

Wait.

His eyes widened to the size of saucers.

Is she going to drown him there?

She heard Jioh sighing, stopping from stirrining the water filling the tub using her right hand, her left one used for support so she wouldn't fall inside. He shot her a look, gulping after a while when he saw her glaring at him.

"No." She deadpanned.

"Huh?"

"I'm not drowning you..." She squeaked.

"Oh."

So he had speak his mind out loud? He coughed awkwardly in embarassment. He looked away, all of a sudden finding interest at the tiled wall of his bathroom.

"Instead of just sitting there..." Jioh trailed off and that prompted the college guy to look at her direction again.

"While I set up the tub, maybe you can get me something clean to water after?" She requested sheepishly, smiling at him uneasily. She turned her attention back to the faucet, turning it off once the tub reached a favorable  amount of water filling it.

How could she be so demanding?!

Another frown made its way onto his face after hearing her request.

Aha!

"You won't escape?" Jungwoo raised one brow at her, crossing his arms.

If she didn't felt frustrated earlier, for sure she now did because the moment she heard his response, she slumped down on the wet tiles, letting out a huff of frustration.

"Your bathroom doesn't have any windows enough for me to fit!" She complained, flailing her arms around. She looked at him exasperatedly.

He snorted at her response before standing up on his feet.

"Sounds convincing enough." Jungwoo mused. Finally, the guy left the bathroom going straight to their bedroom. He grabbed the first thing he saw in a haste to return to the bathroom, suspicious that she might trick him and actually end up escaping.

He entered the bathroom once again only to gape at the girl who was dipping in the tub.

His bath tub.

He scoffed when she smiled at him, eyeing the set of clean clothes in his hand.

"Thank you." She said.

"Yeah," he muttered sarcastically, rolling his eyes.

"Come closer," she instructed.

This caused another pinch of his brows and he glared at the dipping girl. "You're so demanding, you know that?"

"It was you who wanted to know this! Geez" she argued and that got Jungwoo moving.

He crouched down in front of her in the tub, not wanting to wet his pants from sitting on the floor after placing the clothes he brought on the sink before the bath tub.

"What now?" He mocked, caging his knees with his arms.

"See this?" Jioh asked him, pointing at the medallion on her chest. He nodded, she had been wearing that ever since he met her but it was the first time he's studying it.

"Remove it." She ordered and he glared at her.

"You're so—"

"Just remove it!" She hollered in frustration and grabbed one of his hands, directing it closer to her chest.

"Woah— wait!" Jungwoo screamed in panic, snatching his hand — that she grabbed — back over dramatically.

"I-I-I'm not touching a girl's chest! I don't want to be sued by ual harassment!"

Jioh tilted her head in question, studying his reddening face.

ual... what?

Seeing how uncomfortable he has become, she tried again.

"Just remove this." She pointed at her medallion once more, studying his every reaction curiously.

Jungwoo could feel his cheeks reddening even more  at the way she was looking at him out of curiosity. He heaved a deep breath before nodding his head at her.

She smiled when she could no longer felt the uncomfortable tension in the air. Soon she felt his warmth engulfing her when he s his arms around her neck, fumbling on the medallion's lock until it was removed from her neck.

"So," Jungwoo started, looking straight at her face. "What now?" His eyes darted towards the medallion on his hand.

"Look down." She caught his attention back through her statement. He looked back at her and saw her pointing in the tub this time, whereas earlier she was pointing to her necklace.

The guy looked inside the tub, way past his reflection in the water. And what he saw made him freeze in horror. His eyes widened to the size of saucers.

"Jungwoo..." She called but he didn't hear her. Seeing what was underneath the water made his brain stopped functioning. He could no longer hear her as his ear was ringing. Soon, he could also no longer see her as his vision started becoming blurry.

Soon, Kim Jungwoo became one with the floor that night, after discovering what Jioh really was.
