IN MANY MOMENTS OF HER LIFE, AHN SOMIN FELT LIKE AN EXTRA IN A NOVEL , A CHARACTER WITH NO DIRECTION IN THE PLOT, BUT TO BALANCE  .  Somin knew that if her life was a novel, if a human being had seen the spine of her said novel on the shelves, their fingers would skim through it and long for another, interesting road. She knew that in the environment of her prestige and elite university, she was seen as the bland scholarship student with a uniform that was outdated and money that was imaginary. Ahn Somin expected nothing with this new semester. All she knew was that it would be a blur, a part of her life that would not be seen as validating because pages would turn and she would simply still be the bland extra character in the dazzling storyline.
