Decided to make Joy and Yeri the same age in this fic :)

High School. 16 year-old Seungwan and 19 year-old Joohyun.

“Unnie!”

Three sets of voices could be heard over the light music playing in the background. Getting up from her seat, Joohyun abruptly turned around to see her younger friends approaching her.

“Congrats, unnie! You’re finally done with high school.” Sooyoung and Yerim squealed and without warning, wrapped her in a bone-crushing hug; both of them too oblivious to notice Joohyun’s discomfort.

“Yah!” Despite the uncomfortable position, she couldn’t help but laugh at their antics.

Joohyun first met them when she was assigned as their tutor in school. Not only were the two performing poorly in academics, but the two were also known troublemakers as well. And after almost a year spent with them, Joohyun realized that she and the sixth-graders were probably the complete opposite of each other. While the former were always loud and outgoing, she had always been more quiet and reserved, or at least until she felt more comfortable with the people around her. But despite the differences in their personalities, she found herself enamored and grateful for the friendship they built. Considering that she was always chastised for being too serious and uptight for her age, Joohyun always feels much younger and childlike whenever she hangs out with Sooyoung and Yerim.

“Great party, unnie! I’m so proud of you.”

The two evils finally let her go to make way for their other friend. Seulgi, the eldest of the three, gave her a quick hug and her signature eye-smile. Joohyun ruffled the younger one’s hair and couldn’t help but giggle at her cuteness.

Among the three, it’s Seulgi that she’s known the longest. And unlike the other two, Joohyun didn’t meet her because of school. Rather, the cute little bear came into her life because of Son Seungwan.

Just about the time they became friends, Seungwan didn’t miss the chance of introducing Joohyun to Seulgi. And if she were to be honest, Joohyun felt a little uneasy at first. Not only was she new, but the fact that Seungwan was closer to someone else than her made her feel a little insecure. But all of those thoughts eventually vanished right after she spent time with the girl. She soon came to see that Seulgi was charming in her own way; cute and innocent just like Seungwan, but with her own unique traits as well. And just like that, the duo of Seungwan and Joohyun became a trio. Ever since then, the three girls became attached at the hip, experiencing many firsts as they grew up together; the bond of their childhood friendship growing even stronger as the years passed by.

And speaking of Seungwan.

“Thanks, Seul. But have any of you seen Seungwan? I thought you were all supposed to go together?”

The three looked at each other apprehensively before suddenly pointing fingers, fighting over who was going to answer. And just like how it always went, Seulgi lost to the younger girls.

“Seungwan’s here, unnie. But she said she wasn’t feeling well so she went up to your rooftop.”

Worried that something was bothering her best friend, Joohyun excused herself from the girls before making her way to where her Seungwan was.

After taking several flights of stairs, Joohyun finally reached the rooftop and found the person she’s been looking for - Seungwan sitting on one of the benches, with her back facing towards her. Leaning slightly against the wall, Joohyun took a few moments to simply observe the other girl before deciding to make her presence known.

“What kind of best friend forgets to congratulate me at my own graduation party?” As soon as she spoke, Seungwan turned so suddenly that Joohyun was afraid she would get whiplash.

Walking towards her, the older girl couldn’t help but notice that something was off with her best friend. The normally cheery and energetic Seungwan was replaced by one who was distant and quiet.

“I didn’t forget, you know? You don’t have to remind me.”

To say Joohyun was shocked by the iciness in her tone was an understatement. She felt uneasy considering that she had no idea how to react to this version of Seungwan.

“There’s no need to get so defensive, Wan.”

“Shouldn’t you be downstairs? Your friends might be looking for you.”  Seungwan said dismissively, not even bothering to spare her a single glance.

“What’s wrong with you? Why are you pushing me away?”
