Ideal Type

Tuk. Tuk. Tuk.

The sound of someone knocking on her door drew Sojung's attention away from her phone. Knowing it could only be one person, she quickly stood up and went over to open the door, a bright smile on her face.

"You're here, Eun-" Sojung cut herself off when she noticed her visitor's slouched form and sleepy eyes. "God, you look like you stayed up all night." She guided her friend in, watching her shuffle into her house like a zombie.

"That's because I did, Unnie," Eunha mumbled as she collapsed onto Sojung's couch, stretching like a cat. "I can't believe I mixed up my deadlines. I had to pull an all-nighter and the entire day today just to finish my report."

"Ah, that must be why you left all my messages unanswered," Sojung chuckled as she sat by Eunha, her fingers instinctively running through her blonde hair. Eunha whined in protest.

"Don't do that, you'll make me fall asleep," She grumbled and Sojung stopped her actions, watching fondly as Eunha squished her face with her hands to stay awake. She shot up from the couch, eyes suddenly looking more awake and determined. "It's our first movie night after the hell weeks we've been through, I'm not going to waste it by sleeping!"

"You don't have to force yourself to stay awake, Eunha," Sojung disagreed. Eunha was exhausted, and she would rather have her best friend slash hopeless crush to rest well than continue staying up for a movie. "We can do this another day, like always."

"No, it's been so long since we got to meet up like this without assignments looming over our heads," Eunha puffed her cheeks out cutely, crossing her arms. "Go pick a movie, Unnie."

Sojung's sighed exasperatedly. She knew Eunha for two years now, having met when Sojung was in her second year of university while Eunha was just starting her first. The blonde-haired girl was always steadfast and stubborn to a fault, always forcing herself to her limits. If it wasn't for Sojung reminding her to take a break and forcibly removing her from her studies from time to time, Eunha probably would have become a homebody.

She stood up and switched on the television, already knowing what movie she was going to pick. If Eunha wasn't going to go rest, Sojung would just bore her into sleeping. She selected the movie, moving to the kitchen to get them some snacks and drinks just in case.

When she returned to the couch, Eunha was already nodding off, her eyes closed and her head tilting forward. She jerked awake when she heard the clinking of the drinks against the glass table, quickly acting as if she wasn't falling asleep.

"Unnie..."

Sojung put up a false pretend as Eunha called her, the girl squinting confusedly at the television. "Hm?"

"You want to watch...the 2010 live-action movie of Avatar, the Last Airbender?" Eunha looked up at her with a worried expression. "Has the workload gotten to you too? Are you okay?"

"Eunha, I never told you this before, but I love that movie," Sojung was probably having way too much fun teasing a sleep-deprived Eunha, but watching her scrunch up her face in perplexity was adorable. "Give it a chance, you might like it."

"Ah...okay, Unnie, if that's what you really want to watch..." Eunha nodded resolutely to herself as if she was giving herself a pep talk. Sojung finally sat beside Eunha on the couch who immediately leaned against her side comfortably. It was how they always spent their movie nights, tucked side by side but Sojung still didn't know how to handle the warmth of Eunha's body pressed against her.

Her arm naturally went around Eunha's shoulders, and Eunha leaned even more against her, resting her head on her shoulder. Sojung ignored the way her heart jumped and reached forward with her other arm to play the movie.

As the movie began to play, she moved the snack bowl filled with chips onto Eunha's lap. Eunha automatically started to eat the chips, leaving Sojung to wonder if she even ate before coming.

"Did you eat dinner?" She decided to ask as the movie's dialogue played, not even paying attention to what was going on in the movie. Sure, Sojung was looking at the screen, but her full focus was Eunha beside her.

"I did." Eunha was looking at the movie as well, but her sleepy eyes were giving away her boredom. Sojung realised that she was probably only snacking to stop herself from dozing off.

As the movie progressed further, so did Eunha's sleepiness. At some point, the snack bowl almost slipped out of her grip and would have plummeted to the ground if it wasn't for Sojung's fast reflexes. They even had to pause the movie at Eunha’s behest for her to go to the bathroom and freshen up.

Thirty minutes into the movie, Sojung noticed that Eunha finally stopped fidgeting and moving around. Sure enough, her eyes were closed and her breathing was slow. Sojung quickly lowered down the volume, reducing it until it was mere background noise. Then, she froze in place. She didn’t want to move and accidentally wake Eunha up when she finally got the stubborn girl to sleep.

Sojung almost jumped when Eunha moved in her sleep, her arm rising to curl around Sojung’s waist as she snuggled her head into her shoulder. The blonde-haired girl mumbled inaudibly into her shoulder, tightening her hold.

Cuddling. Was this counted as cuddling? Sojung didn't know. All she knew was that Eunha was way too close for her heart to handle. She took the chance to admire her crush's perfect features, from her cute little button nose to her soft cheeks that Sojung always liked to poke.

Eventually, Sojung pulled her gaze away from her and carefully reached for her phone beside her. She idly checked her social media to pass the time.

Her arm inevitably grew numb and sore from the lack of movement after about forty minutes of letting Eunha cuddle against her. Sojung decided to finally move her to her bed, where it would be more comfortable for her to sleep on. She tried not to jostle her too much as she entangled Eunha’s arm from her waist and lifted her gently into her arms. It wasn’t the first time Sojung had to move a sleeping Eunha to an actual proper bed. Her best friend had an uncanny habit of passing out on her couch without meaning to.

Sojung entered the room that she shared with another university student, Yerin. She was thankfully out at the moment with her girlfriend. If she saw her carrying Eunha into her bed, the amount of teasing and innuendos would drive Sojung crazy.

She laid Eunha on her bed and pulled the blanket over her. Sojung was about to go and switch the air conditioner on when a hand grabbed her wrist.

“Oh, fu-” She cursed in surprise, not expecting Eunha to be awake. The previously asleep girl was staring at her with barely-opened eyes, sulking.

“I fell asleep, didn’t I?” Her voice was slightly husky from sleep, the deeper tone oddly attractive. Sojung just dumbly nodded as Eunha tugged her back onto the bed.

“I told myself I wouldn’t...” Eunha pouted and sighed, apologetically looking up at her. “I’m sorry.”

“What for?” Sojung tsked and flicked her forehead with her fingers, eliciting a yelp from her. “I wanted you to go to sleep, not watch a movie with me. You should apologise instead for not listening to me.”

“I just wanted to spend more time with you, awake,” A yawn still escaped her as she spoke. “But I guess my body doesn’t want to cooperate with my heart.”

Did Eunha know how much her words affected her? Sojung couldn’t help but feel flustered by her words, her cheeks warming in embarrassment. "W-we have time tomorrow to talk...Just go back to sleep, alright?" She stuttered out a reply.

"M'kay," Eunha mumbled in reply, still not letting go of Sojung's wrist. "Sleep with me?"

Sojung's mind couldn't help but head to the gutter even when she knew Eunha meant it literally. It was hard not to, not when Eunha was asking her with lidded eyes and her husky voice laced with sleepiness.

"Unnie?" Eunha brought her out of her mini-mental breakdown. "I don't know what you are thinking, but I meant that I just wanted to cuddle with you." Her eyes were twinkling with mischief and amusement, and she winked playfully at her. "Unless, of course, you want to-"

"I KNOW WHAT YOU MEANT!" Sojung spluttered out in haste, muffling the girl's next words by throwing the blanket over her face. "Give me a moment, I'll go turn on the air con."

Eunha tugged the blanket away from her face and laughed heartily. She let go of her wrist and Sojung shot up from the bed instantly.

She always believed herself to be a calm, rational person who wouldn't be flustered by anything until Eunha came into her life with her blunt playfulness and sometimes flirty personality. Sojung couldn't figure out if Eunha was interested in her, or it was just her natural charms spilling out whenever she did confusing actions like asking to cuddle.

She switched on the aircon and set it to an appropriate temperature, heading back to the bed afterward. Logically, Sojung should probably crash in Yerin's empty bed instead, considering how her bed was only a single. But well, Sojung didn't know logic as of this moment. She followed what her heart wanted and went back to her bed where Eunha had already left some space for her.

'It's just lying down next to her. Friends cuddle, don't they?' She inwardly thought, finally climbing into bed. Eunha gave her a happy smile and helped pull the blanket over her as well, shifting closer so that they were both covered by it.

The girl quickly wrapped an arm around Sojung's waist, curling against her comfortably even as Sojung's entire body tensed in surprise.

"You're as stiff as a board, relax," Eunha huffed and closed her eyes. Sojung willed herself to loosen her tensed muscles and reached out to Eunha, her hand settling behind her neck and curling her fingers through the soft blonde streaks. She closed her eyes as well, wondering if she could even fall asleep with her heartrate soaring like crazy.

They conversed softly to each other, mumbling about any topic that came to their mind. Soon, Sojung found herself relaxing and sinking into the comfortable atmosphere. Their little murmurings quickly died down and they fell into a peaceful quiet. Her hand remained at the base of Eunha's neck, idly the soft skin.

The warmth that surrounded her lulled her close to sleeping. Sojung almost believed that Eunha had already headed off into dreamland when she spoke.

"Unnie, do you really like watching that live-action movie of Avatar?"

Sojung snorted in amusement, huffing out a reply. "No, silly, I was just trying to get you to fall asleep. Which you should be doing now."

Eunha didn't reply for a while. Until, almost inaudibly, Sojung caught her mumbling sleepily into the pillow.

"Good...else...you can't be my ideal type anymore..."

It took a while for Sojung's lagging mind to fully comprehend what Eunha just mumbled into the pillow. But when her words registered in her head, Sojung's eyes shot open to gape at the girl before her.

"W-what did you just say?" She stuttered out in disbelief. Did she hear her right? Did Eunha just call Sojung her ideal type?

To her dismay, Eunha was gone. The exhaustion from the all-nighter she pulled finally caught up to her and she looked deep in sleep with slightly open. Sojung was sorely tempted to jostle her awake just to clarify what she heard but at the same time, she knew Eunha needed her sleep.

She pursed her lips in confusion, her previous sleepiness gone and she was very awake now.

"Ideal type..." Sojung whispered to herself, almost in awe. "Am I really?"

She couldn't help but remember a conversation she shared with Eunha not long ago.

//

"Eunha, what kind of traits do you look for in a partner?"

"Hm? Why the sudden question?"

"Just felt like asking."

"Oh...well, first of all, they need to be tall, but more specifically your height."

"Why?"

"Don't you think its the perfect height for me to cuddle and hug? I fit nicely into your arms, don't I?"

"Maybe."

"Deny it all you want, hmph. They also need to have a reverse charm, looks cold on the outside but in reality a giant, oblivious softie."

"Really? That's an oddly specific thing to look for."

Eunha sighed. "You'll be surprised at how oblivious some people can be."

Sojung didn't understand why her best friend was suddenly giving her an exasperated look, but she took it in stride. "Is that it?"

"They can also be naggy, but even if they are I wouldn't mind and love it. Most importantly, they need to be someone I always want to spend every moment with. Every second, minute, and hour-I want to selfishly stay by their side and cherish every day I get to see them."

Sojung swallowed dryly. "Anyone would be lucky to have you."

Eunha gave her a wry smile. "I don't want anyone. I only just want them."

//

Sojung thought Eunha had a crush on someone then, but she was referring to her, wasn't she?

She was a giant, oblivious idiot. All this time Eunha had been flirting with her sincerely but Sojung just completely missed all her signals and took it as her fooling around. She even tried encouraging Eunha to go after her supposed crush which her friend probably took it as Sojung not having an interest in her.

Her hopeless crush may not be as hopeless as she thought. Sojung didn't even care if she misheard what Eunha had said. She stopped herself from pursuing her out of fear of losing Eunha's companionship, but Sojung didn't want those "what-ifs" to stop her anymore.

"I don't want to be an oblivious softie anymore, Eunha," She spoke softly as she shifted closer to her and tucked Eunha's head under her chin, pulling her into her arms. "So I guess I won't be your ideal type anymore."

"Rather, I want to be something more." She pressed a gentle kiss to the crown of Eunha's head, closing her eyes. Her confidence soared knowing Eunha was still asleep and unaware of her words. "Your girlfriend, your confidant, a lover."

"Goodnight, Eunha," Sojung wished. "When you wake up, I'll confess boldly and I hope you'll still want me."
