Description
Lalisa Manoban. Top idol in a fragmented country. A living legend in her hometown. The face of hope after the 2014 coup by the military junta. Humble. Dedicated. There was nothing that could take her down, or rather, her image. How did she manage to become a international fugitive with one decision?
"It made me concerned that people were suddenly proclaiming me a hero. That only meant that they were willing to let me die."
Foreword
- "As a child, we would often starve. The stores were barren. The breadlines were long. There were no jobs. We were only given one glass of milk for each family of four. However, just a little ways away, a family of farmers were forced at gunpoint to waste gallons upon gallons of milk whilst the country starved. Isn't that funny..?" - KIM JISOO
- "I don't want you to die fighting a war you can't win. And to be honest, you look terrible in orange. So, just come back home..."- PARK CHAEYOUNG
- "Face it-- the girl trainees are disappearing, one by one. God only knows where they are or if they'll ever return home. We're next if we don't stay in our place..."- KIM JENNIE
- "I should've been at my happiest at this time. I made it out of a generational curse of poverty. My family was safe. Conditions for my home village seemed to be improving. My career was taking off. People were actually listening to me for once in my life. Plus, not to sound self-absorbed or anything, but I liked the warm attention place on me for once. Though, the spotlight would feel awfully lukewarm. Did I have to always be so disfficult? Chaeyoung, Jennie, and Jisoo would often remind me how comfortable I could really be. But still, something often nagged at me, at my core being, when I slept at night. It kept me up. But what could I do about it? I'm only one girl. I'm no prophet..."- MANOBAN LISA

Abruptly being pulled out of poverty to having her dreams dangled in her face proves to be a bit of adjustment as she struggles to stay afloat, a step ahead, and keep her dignity in tact. However, she begins to put everything into question, mainly, if the goverement has any intentions of keeping their promises.
