Description

Best friends at 8.

Strangers by 18.

Unspoken feelings, missed timings, misunderstandings, and immaturity- some things are just not meant to be.

At least that was what Kwon Tae Ri thought about her first love until she unexpectedly crossed paths with Kim Jongin again.

As much as both of them try to deny it, old feelings start to resurface and maybe, just maybe... this time they will get their happy ending.

But, the plight of love is never easy, be it at 8, 16 or 28.

Could the third time be the charm?

Foreword

Tae Ri shifts anxiously on her seat. She takes a huge sip of the wine in her right hand and tries to maintain her composure. From the corner of her eyes, she can see Kai walking towards her. Calm down, Kwon Tae Ri! You got this, just calm down.

            “Hey.”

Tae Ri felt all the blood coming up to her face. She knew that deep voice too well. Heck, she even remembered how it sounded before it cracked. As she prays to any God that is watching to help her get out of this situation, Tae Ri turns and plasters on the best smile that she could manage.

            “Hey, what a pleasant surprise.”

Kai smiles back at her and takes a seat beside her. “Yeah, I thought you wouldn’t show up to the wedding. You know, because of….” He leaves the sentence unfinished.

Tae Ri knew what exactly he meant. Because of the scandal back at your workplace. That was what he was trying to say.

“Couldn’t miss my favourite cousin’s wedding, can I?” She chuckled drily. Her cousin, Yuri is best friends with Kai’s older sister and she honestly thought he wouldn’t show up either.

Realizing he might have brought up the wrong topic, he steered the conversation to something lighter.

“So, how have you been? It’s been what? Almost 10 years since we last saw each other.”

Tae Ri nodded and takes another sip of wine. “I’ve been good.” She paused and brings her gaze to Kai. “And you?”

Kai looks at her for a quick second and replies, “Never better.” He brings down his gaze to his glass and twirls the liquid inside.

The two stayed silent for a while and the awkwardness was starting to be a bit too unbearable for Tae Ri. Using her empty glass as an excuse, she stood up.

“It was nice seeing you again, Kai. You look very good.” And she meant it. He looks very mature with a suit on and all his features are now sharp and manly. Far from the boyish appearance that she was used to seeing back in school. As memories start to flood her thoughts, she quickly shuts them out.

Kai looked like he was about to say something but decided not to at the last minute. “Thanks. Nice seeing you again, too.”

And as Tae Ri leaves the table, Kai silently watches her back slowly disappear through the crowd.
