カレッジ / university love stories
“Aren’t you excited to meet her?” Park Hyeri exclaimed to Moon Yeolhwa, who was sprawled next to her on the couch, eyes glued to her phone. Yeolhwa lifted her shoulders in a careless shrug, an amused smile gracing her face as she continued to swipe through the selcas she had just taken on her phone. “You’ve been talking about her nonstop for the past week. I technically already know exactly what she’s like.” The pair had shared the apartment last year, and decided to continue to live together for their second year. This year, Hyeri’s best friend was entering Yeongi University and would be sharing half of Hyeri’s room, bringing the apartment occupancy up to 3. Hyeri put the book she had been reading down. For the past twenty minutes, she hadn’t been able to turn the page, which was unlike her. But who wouldn't be excited about living with their best friend? “You’ll love her, swear on my life. She’s a little awkward at first but trust me, she most definitely is not-"
Her declaration was met by a light, cautious knock at the door. Both Hyeri and Yeolhwa stopped what they were doing immediately and looked up. Hyeri immediately jumped out of her seat, racing to open it. Before she turned the handle of the doorknob, though, she turned back to Yeolhwa, narrowing her eyes. “Be nice, she’s probably nervous.” Yeolhwa playfully rolled her eyes and nodded, gesturing for Hyeri to hurry up and open the door.
Hyeri opened the door and Lee Hana stood there, duffel bag in hand. She had already sent most of her things to the apartment a week prior. “HANA!” With an excited bounce, Hyeri stepped aside to let her best friend in, closing the door after her. Hana looked around the apartment, taking it in as she set her bag down. When her eyes met Yeolhwa’s, she bowed slightly with a small smile, a little intimidated by the latter’s bright pink dyed hair, fully done face, and strong eyes. “H-hi. I’m Lee Hana, and uh I-”
“You’re Lee Hana, a first year but technically the same age as us because you used to be a trainee. You’re now an architecture major and blah blah blah… so tell me. Do you know anyone that’s famous?” Hana blinked, speechless. "Uh yeah, I-" Yeolhwa smiled in amusement at Hana’s dumbfounded reaction to her already knowing everything, nodding her head in Hyeri’s direction. Hyeri shrugged. “I was excited. And she does know some famous people. You know Seventeen? She’s really close to them. Remember? I told you how she also used to date-”
“HYERI!” Hana shot a glare at her best friend-now roommate. Hyeri blinked back at Hana innocently. Yeolhwa had begun to lose interest and was back on her phone again, murmuring absentmindedly. “Ah yeah, I heard about your ex. Love isn’t that great anyways. To be honest, I don't even think love is real. Anyways...you think I look good in this?” She showed the other two her screen, which had a selca she had taken that day. Before they could answer, she answered herself. “You’re right, I should redo my eye makeup. Nice meeting you Hana!” Continuously checking her makeup in her phone’s camera, she retreated to her room before Hana could formulate a response at all.
“She’s like that. Trust me though, she’s really nice. As soon as you get over that awkward phase you always do when you meet new people.” Hyeri picked up Hana’s bag and started carrying to their bedroom. Hana laughed and followed her. “I know, the way she acts kind of reminds me of you.” Setting Hana’s bag down on Hana’s bed, Hyeri shrugged. “Duh, why do you think we were able to live together?” She automatically began ping Hana’s bag and looking through her best friend’s clothes, nodding approvingly before pulling out a cute cropped cami. “You’re wearing this tonight, for sure.”
“What’s tonight?”
“There’s a party. We’re going.” Sighing, Hana knew there was no fighting her best friend when she had already made up her mind.
“I wanted to unpack… and my makeup is all at the bottom of the moving boxes…”
Hyeri shook her head. “No excuses. I already solved that issue for you.” Peeping her head out the door, she yelled “YEOLHWA! WANNA PARTY TONIGHT?”
“SHUT UP,” came the immediate response. Hana shrugged, looking at Hyeri in a “what can you do?” way. Hyeri waved her hand carelessly at her before yelling again.
“HANA WILL LET YOU GIVE HER A MAKEOVER IF YOU GO.” Yeolhwa’s door immediately opened, her head popping out.
“Deal.”
On the floor below the girls' apartment, Yoo Howon glared up at the ceiling. God, those girls were yelling and making hella noise again. Everyday they would hear the girls in the floor above them communicate through yelling. The apartments in this building weren't even that big, couldn't they just talk to each other like normal human beings? Howon had claimed the couch in the living room and was watching conspiracy videos on his laptop. Or at least, he was trying to.
"GOD. Are they yelling AGAIN?" Jackson Wang burst out of his room dramatically in exasperation. His roommate, Yoo Minjun, smirked at him from his seat at the dining table. "Bruh. Like you don't make any noise?" Jackson stuck his tongue out at Minjun and loudly dropped himself onto the chair across from him, grabbing a banana and taking a large bite. Jacob Peng, Howon's roommate, was laid flat on his stomach facing the TV a few feet away from Howon, shoveling cheese puffs into his mouth. "Hey. Don't complain about them yet. Maybe they're cute."
"Cute and crazy." Howon scoffed, as he stuck an airpod in his ear. "Cute is all I need to hear," Minjun stated, Jackson nodding earnestly in agreement. The group of fourth years had just recently moved into the apartment unit, with school starting in only a week. The group of friends had found this apartment unit to be a steal, excluding the crazies from upstairs. "Dowun act wike you would care abouwt crwazy if she were hawt, Hoewon," Jacob said from his spot on the floor, his mouth full of cheesepuffs. Howon raised his hands in surrender with a light smirk. "You got me."
"We should visit them sometime. You know, introduce ourselves, go out to eat...you know," Jackson suggested. "." Minjun teased. Jackson put a hand to his chest, offended. "Hey, one of them could be my future girlfriend, okay? And my future wife, you never know!" Howon and Jacob couldn't help but snort at Jackson's comment, causing him to continue his little spiel. "We would be college sweethearts and get married after graduating and have a nice family...and I won't let any of my kids' SINGLE AS uncles visit because they didn't have faith in me-"
"Says one of the biggest players on campus," Minjun retorted.
"Like you aren't?" Jacob spoke from the floor.
"You can't say ," Howon told Jacob.
"Don't even get me started-" Jackson crossed his arms at Howon.
The four paused and stared at each other. Wait...were they all boys? After staring at each other for a while, they shrugged at the same time and resumed doing whatever they were doing. Eh it was true, they all knew it. Minjun was a campus rep for the university and basked in the attention of all the girls who fawned over him. Howon found thrill in the chase for girls but would lose interest soon after (only to find a new girl). Jacob was your typical frat boy, and Jackson had a new girlfriend like... every week.
A few minutes later, Jacob's phone pinged with a notifcation. "So... my y housemates, shall we party tonight?" Jacob held up the event invite to a house party on his phone. Jackson hooted and stood up on his chair, throwing his arms into the air and beginning to do a silly dance, blasting music from his phone. "PARTYY!!" Jacob joined in, wiggling his legs from his spot on the floor and pumping the jar of cheesepuffs.
Howon and Minjun glanced at each other for a split second before shrugging with grins. "We're down."
