Chapter 14
The Fate of The FourThe sun was just beginning to rise when the royal princess determinedly woke up from her sleep. This was truly the ‘earliest time that I wake up’ record for her, especially that she had beaten the supreme general to it. The sole reason for the younger royalty’s weird pattern of behavior was due to her excitement to meet the Im Kingdom’s sole princess’ most trusted royal maid and more importantly, the person who had become the love of her life. The royal princess quickly changed her clothes into a simpler commoner clothing, one that would definitely hide her true identity. After making sure that she had looked good, the royal princess began striding towards the pond, where the two had first met, and found it empty when she had arrived there. However, the royal princess did not suspect anything as she was still way too early before the time when they should have met each other.
Minutes and minutes had passed and the royal maid still had yet to arrive at the said place, causing the royal princess to quickly became impatient and worried. Luckily for the royalty, the royal maid soon came to the royalty’s side looking like a pale and exhausted horse who had been running for hundreds of miles.
“What happened to you? Why do you look very sick and tired?” the royal princess instantly questioned with a distressed tone.
The royal maid in question just smiled at the royalty’s attentive words and answered, “When I just finished doing this morning’s job, I realized that it was already past the time we’re supposed to meet each other, Kyungwan-ah. I just look pale because I ran all the way from Her Highness’ chambers to here.”
The royal princess’ face soften from its strain for a bit before responding, “You shouldn’t have sprinted all the way here. I would have waited for you here patiently, even if you’re late.”
“Thank you so much for being an understanding friend to me, Kyungwan-ie. It’s nice having you around, although we can only talk for a few hours,” the royal maid sincerely uttered as she was appalled by the attention being put upon her by the royalty.
“So, what are we doing for our excursion in this garden, today, Nabong-ie?” the royal princess asked cheerfully, expecting to experience a brand new day spent with the love of her life.
The royal maid, on the other hand, seemed baffled at the sudden change in action and came up totally blank as she had not prepared any answer to that question.
“Uh, I don’t really know, Kyungwan-ah. The only fun things that I know can be done in this garden were watching sunset from that bench and walking around aimlessly in here,” the royal maid truthfully answered while scratching the nape of her neck.
The royal princess immediately frowned upon hearing the answer, but quickly masked it by asking, “Is there any other exciting thing that we can do outside this garden?”
Hearing the question, the royal maid’s face instantly lit up with a gleeful expression as she replied, “Sure, there’s a lot of exciting things that we can do around this castle ground. Why don’t I start by giving you a guide throughout this entire castle?”
“Yeah, sure, I’ll love to do that,” the royal princess answered the question rather too eagerly for her liking, prompting the royal maid to laugh at the former’s antiques.
The fastest way the two individuals could return to the main castle area was through the castle ground allotted for the Bae Kingdom’s entourage, hence they took that path back so that the royal maid’s tour could proceed in action. Upon their re-entrance at the said place, the royal princess could spot several soldiers unconsciously about to bow or half-kneeled upon the royalty, however their attempts went futile with the condescending glare radiated from the royalty’s tensed eyes. The royal princess sighed in relieve after the two had exited the area for Bae Kingdom and strode towards the castle’s main building. The royal maid continued to show various area designated for special purposes, such as the study room, throne room, library, training ground, and much more. Despite trying her best to intently listen to what the royal maid had to explain, the royal princess just couldn’t shake the fact about the royal maid’s beauty and intelligence, prompting her to just look at the royal maid’s side profile and body intensively.
The royal maid would sometimes shake her hand in front of the royal princess’ face just to make sure that the royal princess still paid attention to what she had to say. At those times, the royal princess would just nod her head like a lost puppy to indicate that she was still listening despite the fact that she was just mesmerized by the royal maid’s ethereal beauty and sweet demeanor.
Much to the royal princess’ chagrin, their tour was cut short by a series of rapid steps chasing the girl next to her, who was shouting, “Wait, wait, hold up!”
The royal maid immediately recognized the face behind the voice and answered after looking backwards, “What do you need, Momo-yah?”
“Your…” the running girl named Momo began, but was instantly met with a look from the royal maid that the royal princess could not decipher.
A look that did not come very often, considering how shocked the running girl was from the expression of her face.
“Nabongs-ah, Her Highness has been asking for your presence for the past hour,” the other girl notified the royal maid before spotting another individual standing beside the royal maid, prompting her to ask in a tone that was a little too rude, “Who are you and what are you doing with Nabong-ie this early in the morning?”
However, the royal princess ignored the seemingly disrespectful tone and took a step forward, letting her hand out to shake hands with the other girl before introducing herself, “Hello, Momo-ssi. My name is Lieutenant Yoo Kyungwan and I am from the Bae Kingdom’s royal guards assigned to Her Highness Royal Princess Bae Jeongyeon.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Lieutenant Yoo. My name is Hirai Momo and I am the head royal maid and message bearer for Her Highness the Princess,” the Im Kingdom’s head royal maid announced herself before shaking her hands with the disguised royal princess.
“We should get going now, Nabongs-ah, or else Her Highness will be upset,” the head royal maid for Princess Im uttered, causing a rather irritated expression to graze the face of the other royal maid.
Such action truly confused the disguised royal princess, however she just shook off the puzzling thought and nicely said to the other royal maid, “I think it’s better if you leave now, Nabong-ie. I’ll find my way back on my own. Please do not keep Her Highness waiting.”
Hearing those words, the scrunched expression of the young royal maid immediately softened, followed by a signal to the head royal maid to leave before bidding her goodbye to the disguised royal princess, “Then, I guess I should go now, Kyungwan-ah. It’s really nice spending this morning with you. Do you think that you can meet me this afternoon near the entrance of the garden? I want to show you a place in the castle ground where we can spend the whole evening together without anyone disturbing.”
“Yeah, sure. I would love to do that,” the royal princess quickly replied with a huge smile, internally being overly elated at the royal maid’s proposition.
“See you later, then, Kyungwan-ie,” the royal maid uttered before she kissed the royal princess surprisingly, this time causing the latter to be frozen in her spot for a few moments.
After the royal maid was out of sight, the royal princess jumped in glee before sprinting back to the Bae Kingdom’s allotted castle ground area hurriedly, impatient to divulge the newfound experience to her best friend. The royal princess went towards the supreme general’s room first, but that attempt was quickly turned down when she found the said room to be empty. From afar, the royal princess could spot the supreme general’s former bunkmates in the G Company and decided to approach them.
“Do you have any idea where General Kang could be located right now, sergeant?” the royal princess speedily asked towards the G Company’s leader, Sergeant Kim.
The sergeant, alongside Corporal Jung and PFC Kim Umji, was shocked upon hearing the royal princess’ voice and the three bowed before the royalty before the sergeant answered, “The general is in a meeting with Lieutenant Generals Son Seungwan, Park Jihyo, and Park Sooyoung, Your Highness. We can take you there if you want to.”
Not caring on how important the meeting could be, the royal princess nodded her head furiously like a child, causing the three soldiers to give a baffled look at the royalty. Nonetheless, they quickly removed those looks and just plainly guided the royalty towards the Bae Kingdom’s temporary Battle Room, which was essentially a small room connected to the room where the three lieutenant generals would live in throughout their time in the Im Kingdom. Before the sergeant had the chance to knock on the door to the said room, the royal princess quickly dismissed the three soldiers and asked them to just return to their previous duties. After shortly giving their bows, the three soldiers hurriedly left, leaving the royalty alone in front of the door.
She, then, banged on the doors rather ferociously, causing the short-tempered Lieutenant General Son to question angrily, “Who the hell is banging the d
