No Pressure Over Cappuccino

Description

A little accident with coffee cups opens a whole new page in Yoongi's life.

Foreword

"Is there any coconut syrup in my cappuccino?" Yoongi was looking straight at the waiter whose nametag was saying “Jimin”.

"No, sir, I'm sure there's no coconut syrup in it, just almond", Jimin was answering calmly.

"But I taste coconut syrup”.

"I'm afraid there's no coconut syrup in your cappuccino, sir".

"But I can taste it", Also calm but stiff remark followed.

"I reassure you, sir, there's no coconut syrup in your coffee”.

“But I taste coconut. That means…” Yoongi’s voice got softer as if he was explaining something to a child. “That means there is something related to coconut in it and I clearly haven’t ordered nothing with coconut”.

“But I am sure there’s nothing related to coconut in your cap-“

"I'm sorry, what's your name? Oh, it says Jimin, okay”. Yoongi was slowly losing it over the dumb waiter. “Jimin, my head aches badly and I can definitely say there IS coconut syrup in my cappuccino, so would you be so kind and change it? Make it again without any damn coconut?"

Yoongi was almost angry and Jimin thought it was about time he stepped back and let the customer be right, even he is obviously oblivious and wrong.

"I'll do that, sir", he said stiffly.

Jimin took Yoongi's cappuccino with face full of badly hidden disgust, carried it to the counter and then disappeared in the kitchen.

"Too harsh", said a young man sitting at the table with Yoongi.

"Agreed. You were too rude with him", said another guy, as he was going through his “National Geographic” issue.

"Oh come on! There was damn coconut syrup in there and you know I hate it. And most of all – he was denying it!"

"Still, too harsh".

"Too harsh, indeed".

Yoongi’s friends’ tone was now almost comedically judgmental.

"Tae, Joon, can you both please cut it?"

Actually, what made Yoongi so mad was the fact that they pointed out he was rude with the waiter, when he already knew he was rude with the damn waiter and felt bad enough about it.

"I should've stuck with my normal americano and having breakfast alone", he added.

Taehyung and Namoon laughed and looked at him lovingly, as if it was the nicest thing he’d ever told them.

"Kook, did you put any coconut syrup in this cup?" Jimin asked angrily as he entered the kitchen, where intern Jungkook was struggling with a tuna sandwich.

"No", half said, half gulped Jungkook, giving the cup Jimin was shoving to his face an odd look.

" would be bragging about the coconut syrup and I'm so damn sure it's not in it! It's unfair!"

Jimin looked around and saw someone behind the counted.

"Kook, there's a customer, go get him while I make another damn cappuccino".

"Okay".

Jungkook slid into the customer area, ogling the cup in Jimin’s hand once again.

“So what’s the deal with you being so angry today, Yoon?” asked Namjoon before taking a good bite of his sanwich.

“I-“, Yoongi struggled to find right words as he was disturbing the bacon on his plate with a fork, not eating it at all. “I’m just hangover, that’s it. Or maybe I-”.

“Wow, look at the blazer that guy at the counter wears!” Taehyung interrupted Yoongi’s confession and blatantly pointed at the guy who was making an order, his back to their table.

“I don’t know, seems like… just a blazer to me”, Namjoon wasn’t impressed.

“No, I bet it’s designer!” Taehyung was pressuring his sight fiercely, trying to catch up on every detail of deep blue blazer the man was wearing.

Yoongi’s attention was caught, too. His tired mind was slowly focusing on the man, who leaned on the counter choosing deserts. He looked very fit, his black trousers fitting him so well, his dark brown hair all shiny and visibly soft. Once the man looked around, probably to choose where to seat, Yoongi caught a glimpse of his face – and was shocked by how handsome he was.

“He's cute, though”, said Namjoon, taking his eyes off his National Geographic for a brief moment.

Yoongi gulped. Well, he was obviously not the only one noticing it, and now he felt busted.

“What?” Taehyung was distracted. “The blazer? That’s what I’ve been telling you!”

“No. The guy, I mean. He’s cute”.

“Well, not exactly my type. If you ask me, I’d go for the waiter, the one who was there a minute ago listening to Yoongi’s bull”.

“Come on Tae, don’t bring this up!” Yoongi was desperate to move the topic somewhere else, away from the cute guy and his own failure with the waiter.

“Yoon, do you think he’s cute?” Namjoon was addressing it to Yoongi as if it was nothing. Yoongi meanwhile felt intimidated when forced to share his sympathies.

“I don’t know, he’s alright”, he answered as carelessly as he could and shook his shoulders.

“You’re blushing, why?”

Yoongi hated Namjoon for knowing him too well.

The man-in-a-probably-designer-blazer took his seat few tables away from Yoongi and his crew, alone. A minute after, a waiter – the one Yoongi didn’t recall seeing there before – appeared out of the kitchen with two cups of coffee in his hands. First he went to Yoongi’s table putting his newborn cappuccino on the side.

“An almond cappuccino”, hesitant half-statement, half-question followed.

“Thanks”, answered Yoongi, giving the waiter – apparently his name was Jungkook - a brief look. He didn’t even look at his new coffee at all. He was feeling bad about himself.

Then Jungkook went to the man’s-in-a-probably-designer-blazer table and served him his cup.

“Your burger will be ready in ten minutes”, Jungkook said.

“That’s fine, thanks”, followed the answer.

Yoongi wasn’t facing the stranger’s table, so he could only guess what the man was looking like while sitting there, he could only hear his short answer.

Taehyung and Namjoon got back to their meals, and Yoongi tried to convince himself he wanted eggs, bacon and the damn cappuccino. Actially, he wanted to go home.

“Excuse me, is there anyone here named... Yoongi?”

Yoongi was surprised to hear someone say his name from behind his shoulder all of a sudden. Blood rushed to his cheeks when he saw who it was - the man-in-a-probably-designer-blazer was standing right next to their table, smiling.

“I-, I’m really sorry to bother, but my cup says “Yoongi”, he smiled and showed it to them like a girl would show her pretty doll, bringing it up to his face. “I figured the waiter might have confused our cups, because I saw him serving your table first, so”.

He was literally radiating positive vibes just standing there with the cup and smiling. Yoongi was looking up at him and couldn’t start speaking, because he was mesmerized.

The man’s eyes were going from Yoongi to his friends, polite and confused smile still on, waiting for someone to say he was Yoongi. Namjoon and Taehyung were also waiting for Yoongi to say he was the Yoongi, but Yoongi was not capable.

“Yeah, he’s Yoongi”, Taehyung came to rescue and pointed at the true owner of the cup.

“That’s yours then”, the man looked at Yoongi happily and handed him his coffee.

Yoongi took it from him slowly.

“Thanks”, he was able to say.

The man was still standing. Yoongi was still looking.

“Um, Yoon?” Namjoon looked at the cup that was still standing at their table. Yoongi followed and only noticed that the cup said “Hoseok”, and finally understood what he was ought to do.

“Oh, I’m sorry! Please, take your coffee, too. Thank you”.

“Alright, we’re good then”, Hoseok took his cup. “You all have a nice day! And once again, sorry I bothered you”.

Hoseok gave everyone, including Yoongi, one more bright smile and went back to his table. Jimin was behind the counter again.

“Sir, is everything alright?” he asked Hoseok.

“Yeah, it’s alright! Our cups got confused, but we figured, no big deal!”

“Oh, I’m really sorry! It’s our new waiter, he’s-“

“Please, don’t beat him up! It happens, it’s alright”, Hoseok smiled to Jimin and sat at his table.

“It’s Marks & Spencer”, Taehyung sounded really disappointed. “My eyes have failed me”.

“If I were you, I’d pay attention to Yoongi, not the blazer”, Namjoon was barely holding his laughter.

“What do you mean?” as if something could save Yoongi now, but he tried.

“What do I mean? Well, your jaw went down a little as you were looking at him. Literally”.

Yoongi was struggling to find some words of defense, but he couldn’t think of anything. Instead, he took a sip of his lost-and-found coffee. There was no coconut in it.

They continued eating, Namjoon and Taehyung were dropping some more jokes about Yoongi being whipped for this – what’s his name again? - Hoseok, and Yoongi was trying to shush them, and so on.

Hoseok finished his breakfast quite fast and left the coffee shop, wishing both waiters a good shift. He was disgustingly nice to everyone, and Yoongi wanted to puke as Hoseok walked by their table on his way out and gave Yoongi (or everyone?) another bright smile.

***

Two days later Yoongi was walking down the street under the total flood of a rain. He was desperate to get into some cozy place to dry out a little and maybe have a cup of nice coffee. Walking faster and faster hiding his head under his coat's collar, he finally stumbled upon the coffee shop door.

"Thanks God!" He said, looking up the to sign."Damn, no thanks!" He said the next moment, turning away.

Thing is, the sign was saying "Chim's Coffee" - exactly the same coffee shop where he screwed up his politeness two days ago and most probably is still remembered as a rude guy.

"I'm NOT going in there", he mumbled and angrily continued his walk.

But the rain was too shevy and Yoongi was too cold to walk any longer, considering there was no coffee shops or cafes in sight. 'Maybe it won't be Jimin's shift?' he thought. "Ugh, dammit". And Yoongi stepped into 'Chim's Coffee'.

Unfortunately (for both parties), it was Jimin's shift. He was starring wet Yoongi down with the most polite and welcoming smile on his face.

"What can I get you?"

"An americano, please", Yoongi said quietly.

Jimin nodded, still smiling, and for a brief moment Yoongi thought the waiter was totally over it. Actually, Jimin was not.

"Shall I add anything? Maybe syrup?" Jimin absolutely had to, because the wound was too fresh.

Oh, that tone. "The is mocking me!" Yoongi thought.

"No. Thank you".

"Alright, your americano will be ready in five minutes. It is Yoongi, right?"

"Right, surprised you remember..."

"Of course I do", smile still on, Jimin turned around and went to the counter. He felt like a winner, that rude coconut syrup guy looked like and was definitely ashamed of his behavior.

"Kook, you seen it? He showed up here again", said Jimin to the intern guy, while making an americano with the coffee machine behind the counter. "He looks like a toad and I hate him, I just hate his guts!"

"I don't know, maybe he's not... That bad?" Jungkook suggested cautiously, not looking at Jimin.

Jimin wasn't an to hate people for no reason. In fact, he was the nicest person, just with a very strong sense of justice. He couldn't stand people who accused others of things they weren't guilty at all, just to pour out their anger and bitterness on someone. So,

"No, Kook, no. He's not good", Jimin sounded a little sad now. "And the worst thing is that he makes me hate a customer... 'Cause he's a customer! And that's not how I run this business, you know?"

"I know, Jimin. Just let it go maybe?"

"I wish", Jimin sighed.

"", Yoongi thought, cursing both Jimin and his all soaked in rain water trench coat, as Jimin was walking away with his order. "Why'd he be so bitter about it? I didn't accuse him of anything that wasn't true. Can't he just be over it, or at least... not so in my face?"

At that exact moment Yoongi looked a little to the left and saw Him. The guy he and his friends saw here few days ago, the guy-in-apparently-not-a-designer-blazer, the center of the coffee cups accident, the one that made Yoongi blush like crazy - Hoseok. Yoongi remembered his name pretty well and didn't stop thinking about him since that last time. The only thing he'd never thought of is that he'd have a chance to ever see the guy again. And now... it was actually happening.

Hoseok was just sitting there alone again, looking at his phone, smiling a little. Nothing on his table, which meant he was still waiting for his order.

Yoongi desperately wanted to come to him and just talk. He was itching to do something about it, but he couldn't. He was too afraid, too self-conscious to simply come up to someone he liked and start a small talk. That just wasn't Yoongi. Yoongi hated himself at that moment.

And then an amazing idea came to Yoongi's mind. "Coffee cups!" He thought. "We can do the coffee cups accident... again!"

Not thinking for a second, Yoongi stood up and started walking towards the counter where Jimin was finishing up making his americano and the other cassier was putting a coffee cup and a sandwich on a tray. Yoongi leaned low on the counter and lowered his voice.

"Hey, hey", Yoongi called.

Jimin turned around with a surprised look on his face.

"How can I he-", He started with his full voice.

"Shhh, please!" Yoongi put his index finger to his lips.

Jimin got curious and leaned towards Yoongi.

"What?"

"Coffee cups... That guy... Do it again. Please!"

"W-what?"

"Ugh.. That guy", Yoongi kicked his head in the direction of Hoseok's table shortly, then pointed at Jungkook. "You! You must remember what happened the last time I was here, you served wrong coffee to us".

"Yes, yes, I do".

Now it all came to Jimin. "What a sissy", he thought contemptously.

"Will you do it? Nothing much, just switch our cups with our names on them" Yoongi looked desperate. "Please I'll take full responsibility and leave you extra tips"

Yoongi looked desperate. Jungkook was looking at Jimin for a permission.

"Alright, we'll do it" said Jimin with no empathy in his voice. "I'll play along then", he smiled. "Yes, sir, I shall add coconut syrup in your coffee" He added loud enough that everyone including Hoseok would hear.

Yoongi didn't have enough emotional sourses at that moment to fight back or even feel intimidated. He returned to his table with trembling hands. He didn't even care about Jimin's venom or damned coconut syrup, now it was all about Hoseok.

"I'll do it", said Jimin victoriously to himself, opening a marker in front of Hoseok's cup. "I will. And also, I'll call him out for not having balls to talk to someone he likes, but enough balls to be rude to a waiter".

Jungkook looked scared.

In slow motion Yoongi watched as Jimin came to Hoseok's table with a tray, put a sandwich plate and a coffee cup on the table, said something nice, Hoseok said something nice in response. Hoseok smiled, Jimin went away. A cup which said "Hoseok" was already standing on Yoongi's table and he was giving it shirt nervous looks. "Why does it have to be so much pressure? I hate it!" Yoongi thought.

Hoseok didn't look at his cup first thing, he took a good bite from his sandwich instead. Yoongi's stare was now intense. Eventually, Hoseok took his cup. Before taking a sip from it, he looked at it, surprised.

"It's happening!" Yoongi thought, now barely breathing.

Hoseok was still looking into the cup's side. Yoongi expected his expression to turn soft as he remembers Yoongi. Or maybe he'll smile, and look up to find where the guy is sitting now, or maybe...

But to Yoongi's surprise, Hoseok's brows furrowed. That was totally not the reaction Yoongi expected.

All of a sudden Hoseok stood up and left some cash on the table. Then he walked directly to scared Yoongi with a stone cold expression on his face and the cup in his hands. When Hoseok reached Yoongi's table, he didn't didn't even smile.

"You could've just asked me, you know. There's no need to ask the cassiers something like that. Its rude and, I believe, illegal. Don't follow me. Good bye".

With that said, Hoseok put the coffee cup on Yoongi's table, nodded a 'that's OK' to the cassiers behind the counter and left.

Yoongi was in shock, he couldn't even manage to say anything in his defence. As the door closed behind Hoseok, Yoongi locked eyes with Jimin's, and that look told him pretty much everything.

"Little !" He mumbled and grabbed the cup that Hoseok left.

On the side of it, in small font, was written the following:

"Hi, this is waiter Jimin. The blond guy at the table to the right from yours (Yoongi) has been asking me to give off your phone number from our loyalty program database. He's rude and he seems to be dangerous so I didn't want to tell you in front of him. You may want to call the police".

Thatt was too much. That was just too much. If Jimin wanted revenge, then it obviously didn't equal the coconut sypup accident. He said pure lies to Hoseok just to make Yoongi look bad. That was just too much.

Yoongi stood up very loudly and holding the cup walked fast towards the counter. He was about to blow, he felt his face turning red from anger.

"What do you think it is? A game? Are we kids?" Yoongi was trying to speak normally but his voice was shaking.

Jimin leaned towards him.

"This, Yoongi, is justice", Jimin's voice was cold, like justice itself.

"What so just about it? You made me look like a damn psycho in front of a person I like and care about. You just lied to screw me, that's not what the justice is in my universe".

"Well, you lied about the coconut syrup and you know it! You called me out for it JUST because you were in a bad mood".

Yoongi was traumatized. That was so not true, what Jimin was saying. He couldn't even answer, he felt so helpless in front of Jimin and almost wanted to cry.

"There was coconut syrup in it".

"No, there wasn't, I made it myself".

"There was".

"There wasn't"

All of a sudden Yoongi grabbed Jimin by the collar.

"How dare you-"

"Stop, please, both of you!" Jungkook cried loud enough for every customer at the coffeeshop to hear. Then added, "There was coconut syrup in his coffee. I spilled it accidentally into the cup when Jimin was taking another order. I'm sorry".

Yoongi let go of Jimin's collar. Jimin gasped.

"You what?"

Jungkook was not looking at him, his eyes was locked at the floor.

"Kook, do you understand what you did?"

Jungkook was silent. He just couldn't find the right words, any words. He was so sorry.

Not getting any answer from him, Jimin looked at Yoongi.

"Yoongi, I'm so sorry! I didn't know that, I-"

"No, stop now. I've had enough of your bull", Yoongi was so done and tired. "Here's for the coffee", Yoongi put some cash on the counter and left 'Chim's Coffee'.

"You're the worst, Kook. Your the absolute worst", said Jimin.

***

After Yoongi left and normal chatting resumed in the coffeeshop, Jimin was standing behind the counter with empty look in his eyes. Jungkook was afraid to say anything for good ten minutes.

"Am I fired?" He finally managed to let out. Jimin didn't answer.

"Am I fi-"

"Yes!.. No! I mean, you are fired but not before you fix it. You have to fix it, Kook, and you better figure out how to very, very soon. Do you understand what we did?" Jimin was speaking emotionally. "We hurt innocent Yoongi for no reason, we killed their relationship with Hoseok that could be something..." Jimin looked miserable," Kook, what if we broke Yoongi's life? What if he was supposed to be with Hoseok, marry him and live happily ever after?" Jimin got silent for a moment." We have to fix it, Kook!"

It was a busy evening at the coffeeshop shop that day because of the weather, so neither Jimin or Jungkook had any time to actually come up with a good plan during the working hours, but it's fair to say there was nothing else on both their minds other that this.

At 9 pm all customers left and Jimin closed 'Chim's Coffee'.

"Kook, put back down that backpack of yours. You're not going anywhere until we figure out what to do about Hoseok and Yoongi".

Till 11 pm they sat at one of the tables trying to come up with some idea.

"Neither of them is coming back here, I'm sure... Maybe Hoseok, but it definitely won't happen soon".

"We should find them on Facebook", Jungkook suggested.

And they tried, but there were too many Hoseoks and Yoongis in the city.

"Damn, you'll need a whole life to go through every profile!" Jimin put away his tablet.

The coffee shop was silent.

"Jimin, we should just use out database".

"No! Jungkook, we are NOT using our loyalty program database. That is not how I run this business!"

At 2 am, after hours of searching the Facebook, Jimin decided to use the database.

First thing in the morning, before the opening, Jimin dialed Hoseok's number, explained everything and apologized to him. Hoseok appeared to be a very nice and understanding person.

"I was thinking of texting you Yoongi's number", Jimin suggested to Hoseok. "He won't listen to me anyway, I texted him few times but he wouldn't respond, too. Maybe you can pursue him to come here again, you know? I would like to properly apologize. Yes. Yes. Oh, thank you! I'll text you in a minute. Yes. Thank you, Hoseok! Bye".

Jungkook was biting his nails next to Jimin while he was on the phone.

"So, Hoseok's totally fine with everything. He promised to call him", Jimin said with a sigh.

"What do we do now?" Jungkook asked.

"Now we wait, Kook. Now we wait".

Two weeks from the day Jimin called Hoseok, a company of five people came into Chim's Coffee. Jimin was busy with customer's orders, walking between the tables, when he recognized Hoseok, Yoongi, two Yoongi's friends, the ones he was with on the first day, and a tall handsome guy he did not recognize. They occupied a nice table next to the window. Jimin hurried to them.

"Hello, welcome to Chim's Coffee, what can I get you?" Jimin was trying to sound so nice his voice even changed a little. "By the way, all drinks are on the house for you today", He looked straight at Yoongi, then at Hoseok who was smiling widely. Yoongi wasn't looking at Jimin at all.

"Wow, that is very generous", one of Yoongi's friends said.

"Yay, shall we order these fancy coffee cocktails with strawberries and spices?" the tall handsome guy sounded excited.

"Definitely!" said another one of Yoongi's friends.

"Alright, I'll get them for you", Jimin smiled and looked at Yoongi again. "Anything else?"

"I'll have apple tea", Hoseok said. "Kinda in the mood for tea today".

"Good choice! And for you?" Jimin was now swirling Yoongi with his eyes, but latter didn't even look at him.

"I'll have an amercino".

Yoongi still sounded angry.

"Alright then", answered Jimin after a pause. "Your drinks will be here in a few minutes", then he left.

"There's no need to be a jerk, you know", Hoseok said. "The guy is sorry as , look at him".

"I'm not angry, I'm... awkward".

"Really, Yoongi, forgive him, just do it", said Namjoon reasonably. Taehyung nodded in agreement.

"Thanks God I didn't fire you!" said Jimin making coffee, while Jungkook was hurrying with other orders. "You do everything so fast now. If it goes on like this, next week I'm ending your enternship and making you a full-timer. You in?"

"Of course!" Jungkook smiled. "Thank you".

"Also, Yoongi and Hoseok are finally here and they seem just fine!"

"No way!" Jungkook's eyes got even rounder, and Jimin nodded in excitement.

"Alright, Kook! Now help me with this americano while I make some apple tea".

When Yoongi's and his friends' drinks were ready and Jimin was putting the cups on a tray preparing to go serve them, he saw Yoongi himself standing at the counter.

"Hey, Jimin... I just came to say thank you for making up for the mess back then".

"Oh, no, that's nothing! You shouldn't thank me at all. Actually, I'm sorry I have caused it in the first place..."

"That's alright. Me and Hoseok..." Yoongi smiled. "We're kinda... together now. So all in all, I'm really glad for all the mess you caused".

"What a relief! I'm so happy for you", Jimin was smiling the widest he ever did.

"Is that our order?" Yoongi asked. "Here, I'll take it to the table".

"No, please, let me!" Jimin protested.

"I'll do it, I see you have quite a rush here", Yoongi nodded at many occupied tables.

"Okay, fine, take it. Thank you".

Yoongi took the tray with four cups on it to his three friends and his one boyfriend.

***

Jimin enjoyed the euphoria of everything turning out just perfect for solid five minutes. Then...

"How can I h-"

"Jimin, are you kidding me?" Yoongi seemed to be in shock, while everybody else at the table was chuckling and hardly containing their laughter. "Why'd you make me a coconut americano?!"

"A.. coconut americano?.." Jimin repeated quietly. "Excuse me for a moment", he said.

Jimin took Yoongi's cup and turned around, looking scary.

"Jungkooook!?"
