Setting: University Graduation
Perfect, a word synonymous with Irene Bae’s life. Perhaps, not really. Irene knows what she is missing. And on this graduation night, where the party is ongoing and surrounded by their friends, Irene would whisk one girl amongst the crowd, the girl whom she has set her eyes upon, out and away, so that she could have her to herself. After all, it has been years and the wine had raised her courage by several more notches.
Imperfect, a word Wendy Son has always associated with her life. Yet, as imperfect as Wendy thinks her life is, she thinks she knows just the ingredient to perfect it. As the music played and the drinks were served, her eyes followed the person whom she had felt connected to since forever, politely declining any conversation the others tried to involve her in.
Timely it was, the girl she had her eyes on was edging through the crowd, towards her that is. Wendy grabbed the neck of a wine glass from a nearby waitress and met the girl.
“Hi,” the girl said, a glass wine in her hand.
“Hi,” Wendy replied, trying not so show her nervousness.
It sounded like an awkward greeting yet it was as natural as it could be when it came to them. It has always been like that for them and seemed apt in this ballroom of a country club.
“Remind me, how long have we known each other, Son Seungwan?” the girl said in a taunting voice as she leant herself against the wall.
Wendy let out a short chuckle. “Please, just Wendy on a night like this. Let me try to recall, approximately seven years, Bae Joohyun.”
The girl tutted. “Just Irene too. And remind me just how many times have I beaten you in rankings?”
Wendy laughed aloud this time round in spite of herself and took a sip from her red wine. Swirling her glass after, she tried to come up with a cool reply, “six. This time round I beat you.”
