I must give credit where credit is due. This four-phased vignette began its inception from reading Frank Ocean’s Open Letter. Frank Ocean, who in my opinion is arguably one of the most exquisite treasures of our generation, gifts us with art expressed through music that waxes on the profound and the cathartic. Jeongyeon’s open letter found in Phase Four pays homage to that so I will not even attempt to deny the similarities. (The narrative is tweaked and differs, of course, but the essence of it was an intentional emulation.) Consequently, it’s the song Bad Religion, the 14th track of the critically-acclaimed album Channel Orange, that propelled my emotional response from the Open Letter deeper into the backseat of that taxi driver’s cab where all the ghosts of love and heartbreak awaited to tell me their tales. From then on, lyrical masterpieces like Self-Control, White Ferrari, and Ivy added their own shading and their own nuances to this fictional scenario. I would be avidly impressed on your part to pick up on moments that were inspired specifically by what song, other than the obvious title.
Now about this vignette…
The time jumps should, at least I would hope, give you the freedom to fill in the gaps with your imagination in a way that would harness your own experiences. It could have certainly been written with extensive chapters with a dominant plot that would drive the narrative in
