Ten years ago, a friendship was made between two kids, and a promise along with it.
A promise, secured by a necklace guarded by a scarecrow.
A promise, which lay forgotten as the years passed by.
A promise, which a girl is so deperately trying to keep now.
Will she be able to keep it?

Foreword
It was beautiful.
Unlike anything she had ever seen before.
The boy dangled it in front of her, the sunlight rays catching its beautiful colours and making them dance about the corn field.
The girl opened her palm out and the boy placed the pendant in her hand.
She looked up at him.
"For me?" she asked.
He nodded, smiling his warm, boyish smile.
She smiled back at him, her white teeth gleaming brillantly.
She carefully took the necklace from him and cradled it to her chest.
Then she remembered.
Her father.
Slowly, she took her arms away from her chest, her once joyous face turning gloomy.
Shaking her head, she pressed the necklace back into her hands.
"I can't take it. My father will find out," she said, choking in an effort to get the words out.
A beautiful surprise, ruined like that.
She blinked back her tears, turning away.
But he caught hold of her hand.
