“Solar-sshi,” Byulyi whispered softly.

Solar was deeply immersed in her phone, unable to hear the other girl calling for her. She was completely oblivious to the faint look on the latter sitting in front of her.    

“I think I like you.”   

Solar suddenly looked at her with wide eyes. Byulyi felt her heart beating fast, face turning pale. She thought the girl wasn’t listening.    

“What did you say?” Solar asked.    

“I-I…”    

Byulyi looked down and sighed. She started to think that maybe confessing at the moment wasn’t exactly a great idea. A sigh escaped her lips, again, after realizing that this may be the end of their friendship.    

“What the hell am I thinking? Confessing when it hasn’t even been a year since we’ve met?” Byulyi thought to herself as she sighed, again, for the third time. “Screw it.”    

Solar noticed the heavy sighs causing her to press pause quickly as she jutted out her lips.    

“I’m sorry!”    

Solar yelled.   

“—— for not listening,” She continued. “I was watching a video and I didn’t realize that you were talking.  I’m really sorry.”    

Byuli stopped and stared at the cute face in front of her, before letting out a small chuckle. God, she was saved.    

“It’s okay, I was just blabbering.”    

“You? Blabbering? Given how quiet you are?” Solar scoffed, “Highly unlikely.” She teased.

Byuli smiled. Enjoying little moments like this with Solar, she realizes what a fool she was a moment ago, confessing. She doesn’t need to confess. Solar doesn’t need to know her feelings - partly because she, herself, wasn’t so sure if it’s really “like-like” or maybe, just an infatuation. And of course, she wouldn’t risk their friendship over something she wasn’t even totally sure of. Besides, Solar isn’t exactly aware of her preferences yet, so that surely must be settled first before she even decides to do something as thoughtless as what she just did again.   

“So,” — A familiar voice in the background broke into Moonbyul’s thoughts. Solar muttered as she continued watching videos on her phone. “What were you saying again?” Byulyi raised her eyebrows.    

“Oh, it’s actually nothing. I was just saying how cute that girl Wheein is.” Byulyi subconsciously felt flustered at the thought of the said girl.    

“So you’re into girls now?” Solar laughed.    

Byulyi thought that this is it. This is the perfect opportunity for her to open up about herself. If she really wants to be good friends with Solar, she probably should start being more honest with her.     

“Uhh… yeah, always been actually.”   

“What? You’re joking, right?” A wavering smile.    

Or maybe not.  

“O-of course.” Byulyi stuttered as she forced out a chuckle.    

Solar breathed out a huge sigh of relief. “Ahh. Seriously, I thought I’m friends with an LGBTQ,” Solar grinned before breaking into laughter. “You wouldn’t want any more gossip about me, would you?”    

“Actually,” Byulyi answered, still with pretense of teasing the other girl. “Another gossip wouldn’t hurt.”

Solar was about to retort but a ringtone filled the air, and soon the girl is squealing in delight as she checks her phone’s screen.

She quickly went out of the room, leaving Byulyi alone to herself, smiling.

Albeit bitterly.
