Descended FromThe Stars
When I was a young girl my parents used to take me to our holiday home on Jeju every summer. Every clear night I would lay in the field backing the house and just gaze at the sky. Something about it always fascinated me, it was always changing but never changed.
My parents and I had finished dinner an hour before and I had been laying in the field ever since. The night was clear and the stars glimmered like precious gems on a black silk cloth.
My Father came out and lay next to me. He had never done that before.
My Mother joined us on the grass. She had never done that before.
This was the start of our new found tradition.
We lay in silence, basking in each others presence. My parents began pointing out pictures in the sky, playing dot-to-dot with the stars. These pictures I would later find out were called constellations.
They told me the tales of the swan Cygnus, the Great Bear, the dippers and many more but the ones that fascinated me the most were those of the Zodiac. The twelve great constellations otherwise known as the star signs.
Years went by since that night and many things had changed. My parents had passed away and I moved in with my Grandmother, I went through school and friends were ever changing. I had part-time jobs were I saved money for the one constant in my life.
