They’re both sitting on the kitchen floor in silence, ice cold beers and empty bottles scattered around them. They’re on the verge of breaking up, Mingyu knows. He can feel it, he had a feeling about it the moment Wonwoo started to smile at him less and spent more time smiling and giggling down at his phone rather than at him. He knows he should’ve been the one to do it, should’ve been the stronger one and broke up with Wonwoo but he couldn’t. Instead, he ignored it for as long as he could but tonight, he just knew, tonight was the night Wonwoo would do it. 

Mingyu looks up at Wonwoo, heart breaking even more when he finds him smiling down at his phone for the nth time that night. 

He clears his throat and breaks the silence, “Tell me a lie.” Wonwoo looks up, surprise evident in his eyes but his face void of emotion. “What’re you talking about?” 

Mingyu asks again, “Tell me a lie, Wonwoo.” All Wonwoo does is stare at him, confused, as if he didn’t know what Mingyu was talking about, as if he hadn’t been telling Mingyu these lies for the past month. When a few minutes pass and he still hadn’t respond, opting to get back on his phone instead, the pent up frustration that Mingyu’s held down for so long starts bubbling. “Goddamit, Wonwoo! What is wrong with you?! Talk to me!” And Mingyu breaks. 

With tears streaming down his face he screams, “Why are you like this? Huh?! What happened to us?! What happened to YOU?!” And he continues when all Wonwoo does is stare at him like he’s the victim in this and not Mingyu. “Break it off! I know you’re going to anyways! So just.. just please Wonwoo.. please..” he knows he sounds pathetic but he doesn’t care. He’s spent too many days paranoid, thinking that Wonwoo would leave him for certain that day, only for him to be wrong and go through all the paranoia the next day. 

He curls into a ball when nothing is said and continues crying, upset that all Wonwoo did was sit there and take it. Upset that the man he wanted to spend his life with didn’t want him. 

A few minutes passed when a quiet apology was said. Mingyu snaps his head up and scowls. “No,” he angrily wipes his tears away, “don’t apologize. Do it.” 

He angrily stares at Wonwoo, who refuse to look at him. “DO IT!” He throws the beer in his hand towards the wall next to Wonwoo, a loud smack and a thud resonating in the small kitchen. 

Wonwoo sighs, a small frown tugging at his lips, and looks down at his fingers. “I never meant for this to happen, you know. I never meant to hur-“ Mingyu scoffs. “Cut the bull, Wonwoo. Do. It.” 

Wonwoo finally looks up at him after a while, his eyes filled with guilt and unshed tears as he whispers, “Let’s break up.” And it hurts, it hurts Mingyu so much but a part of him is relieved, because now he won’t have to live everyday scared that Wonwoo would leave him. Now, he’s free. 

A small smile makes its way onto Mingyu’s face, all traces of anger gone, as he leans his head back against the cabinet and whispers a soft, “Thank you, Wonwoo.” 

All Wonwoo does is nod his head and look away. 

“Tell me a lie, Wonwoo.” Mingyu asks him again when he’s about ready to leave, half way out the door already. “Tell me one last lie and then I’ll move on.” And Wonwoo finally gets it. 

He turns around and looks in Mingyu’s eyes. The pair of beautiful brown eyes he use to love, “I love you, Mingyu.” Wonwoo’s voice is strong and steady but inside he wants to cry, because even if he wasn’t in love with the younger anymore, even if he was he one who broke it off, it doesn’t make it hurt any less. “I love you and I always will.” 

Mingyu nods and flashes him the best smile he could muster up, responding with an “I love you too, hyung.” He returns the smile, albeit not as bright as Mingyu’s, and gives a small nod. “Have a good night, Mingyu.”
