Heartbreak Girl

A guy who's been there all along and silently loving his heartbreak girl.

Foreword

Pairing: Kang Minhyuk and Jung Soojung

Title: Heartbreak Girl

Lying on his bed, with his right arm over his forehead and eyes shut, Kang Minhyuk is patiently waiting for his phone to ring. He peeked at his digital clock right on top of his bedside table. The number 09:59 inscribe on it.

‘Just a few more seconds. In 3, 2, and 1.’ He told himself and comes along with it the sound of his ringing phone.

He quickly sat on his bed, holding his phone; he took a deep breath before swiping the answer call.

“Hello?” He greeted as always, calm as possible.

A sob was what he heard. And it is no surprise for him. That is always the case. He answers at 10:00 pm sharp just to hear her cry. It is always twice as hard for him for Jung Soojung, the girl he’s been in love with is breaking down on him, not because of him. Not that he wishes to be. For he promised himself, he’d never be the reason of her sorrow and that he would always make sure that she’ll only receive the love and happiness she deserves.

“Krystal…what’s wrong?” He kept on asking even though he already knows why. Only for the reason that maybe, just maybe this time she would answer something different.

“It hurts. Why am I hurting like this? While him, he’s out there having the time of his life. I saw him and he was with another girl.” She gabbled and wailed after.

“Hush now. I’m sure it was an act. He loves you.” He lied. Because if Kai loves her, he wouldn’t do something stupid like this. If he really does love her, he shouldn’t let even a single tear drop from her. Because that’s what he’ll do, willingly.

She stopped crying and sniffed a bit, “Do you think so?” She asked in a hopeful manner. She’s always been like that, easily cries. The only good thing about it is that she’s easily cheered too.

“Yeah. I’m sure. So stop your crying.” He said and tried to change the subject when he heard her yawn. As much as he still wants to talk to her, he decided it was best to end the call and let her get some rest.

“Thank you for being the best of friend. I don’t know what I’ll do without you.” If only she meant it other way, he’d be the happiest man on earth right now. But he knows it’s the opposite. She doesn’t mean it like what he wanted.

Reality knocking him up, he sighed and got back on his bed. Deep in thoughts, ‘If this is the only way I could love you, I’d be fine with it. I’ll take it, I’ll grab anything.’

Minhyuk was an hour early for their rehearsal; he is already playing with his drums when Jungshin, one of his bandmates entered their practice room.

“Have you heard the news?” He asked in a teasing manner.

Minhyuk lazily shook his head not succumbing to his friend’s mockery.

“The campus couple just got back together again.” Their bassist announced, he continued stating his comment, “I knew it. They’ve been in an on and off relationship and it comes as no surprise. It is not new that they’re back with each other.” He said as he lowkey tries to check their drummer’s reaction.

Soojung and Kai. That’s their campus couple. A bitter smile that is what Minhyuk managed to do. Nobody knows of his hidden affection to the other half of their campus’ perfect pair. He’s closemouthed when it comes to this. Even his friends, they only know that Minhyuk and Soojung are bestfriends but not a single one of them knows of his feelings for the latter. Although his band brothers are linking them most of the time. Just like today.

“What are you gonna do now, lover boy?” His friend asked maliciously.

He stood up from his seat and told Jungshin, “I’m gonna get some air.”

“Alright. I understand. I’ll tell the others that you’re moving on.” The latter mocked and cackled.

Jungshin continued, “Oh, and don’t forget to get me some food while you’re at it.”

Minhyuk shot him a glare, shook his head and continued walking outside. He fish out his phone from his pocket and saw a message coming from Soojung that says, “You were right. He said he loves me. Thank you.”

His gripped on his phone tightened. “Just when will you realize and see the truth, Jung Soojung? And just when will you learn, Kang Minhyuk?” He said with gritted teeth.

“Thank you.” Jung Hyesung uttered as they stopped right outside her house.

Minhyuk bowed his head, “You don’t need to thank me anymore. We’re friends. We’ve been doing this since we were kids. Have a good night, Hyesung-ah.” He said, smiling and started to walk going home.

“I’ll see you tomorrow. I’ll make sure I’d be the one waiting for you then.” She exclaimed.

He chuckled and continued walking, his left hand on his pocket and the other just waved his hand up in the air.

It’s already 10 in the evening when he got home. Aside from his practices ending up at 8pm, he still waited for Hyesung half an hour to finish some school requirements and they decided to eat out after

As soon as he got home, he went straight to his parents room, kissed his mother goodnight and gave his father a hug.

He took a shower, brushed his teeth and was preparing for bed. When he was on his bed, he checked his phone and was surprised with 3 missed calls coming from Soojung.

It is indeed a shock for him since she just got back together with her boyfriend, he was not expecting a call from her. Not today, at the least.

Her last call was 20 minutes ago, he just hope that everything is fine and that she’s not hurting at all.

Trying his luck, he dialed her number and waited for her to respond. “Hello?” She answered drowsily.

He breathed a sigh of relief, ‘She was asleep, and she’s fine. She’s okay. That’s all that matters.’

“I, I’m sorry. Did I wake you?” He asked a bit guilty for interrupting her sleep.

“No, no. It’s okay. I was waiting for you anyway. I was the one who called you in the first place. Fortunately, I woke up.” She said, as she rose a bit to rest and lean on the headboard.

He worriedly inquired, “Everything fine?”

“Yes. Everything’s fine. I was, just gonna thank you.” She cheerfully uttered.

Right. He knew what the thank you is all about. She thanked me already on her message though. Not wanting to hurt himself more, he shifted the subject, “Yeah. That’s nothing. I didn’t do anything though. I’m sorry for calling back late. I just got home.”

From being laid on her bed, she sat up straight. “That late? Aren’t your practices end up at 8 in the evening?”

“Well, I still waited for Hyesung to finish something and we dined out after.” He delightedly gabbed.

Upon hearing it from him, she felt weird and replied, “Oh, is that so?” She doesn’t know what it is but every time Hyesung is brought up, she always have this strange feeling inside of her that she can’t explain. But as always she just shoves it off.

“Hmm.”

Soojung’s mood quickly dropped. She fake yawned and bid her goodnight to Minhyuk. Although for some unexplainable reason, she still wants to talk to him, she doesn’t know what has gotten to her to end that call immediately.

Weirded out by her sudden sentiment, “I guess, I’m that sleepy.” She said to herself.

But then, the next morning, she found herself not feeling well for staying up all night. Still, she went to school.

Now, she is with Kai and they were walking around the campus, almost all of the student body was at the sides, looking up at them.

Minhyuk, on the other hand was on his way to their practice room to get his drumsticks that he forgot when he saw the couple. Even with just one look he could tell that there’s something wrong with her.

He instantly stopped at his tracks and took a thorough glance at her once more. And he’s right, she’s sick. He knows it too well. What the hell is wrong with that guy? What is he thinking? He should’ve seen it. He’s too close to her; he should’ve known and sent her to the infirmary.

He’s fuming mad. He immediately averted his eyes away from their direction.

When he turned, he saw Hyesung who was carrying a lot of books. In no time, he was in front of her taking all of what she was holding.

Hyesung was about to holler but stopped when she saw that it was Minhyuk.

“Yah! You could’ve asked me nicely.” She blurted out.

Since he was in a hurry he began to walk, leaving her behind.

“Hey! My stuff! Do you even know where I’m heading?” She exclaimed as she started catching up with him.

It didn’t escaped Soojung’s eyes the figure of his trusted friend. She was about to call him when she saw that he was with Hyesung.

“I wanna go home.” She suddenly said.

Kai raised his brows questioningly, “I thought we’ll have a meal first?”

“Just bring me home.” She said with finality.

“Okay.” Kai said, irritated.

Soojung thought she can rest well peacefully as she got home, but was received otherwise when she heard a speech coming from her worried sister, Jung Sooyeon.

“Yah! Jung Soojung! What were you thinking? How can you even go to school having this high of a temperature?” She started as she looked at the thermometer.

“Why are you here, Unnie? Shouldn’t you be in the office?” She asked.

Sooyeon shook her head, “Come and eat. Then after that, drink your medicine. What is your boyfriend even doing not taking care of you? Thank your friend for me about this. I was even planning to do an all-nighter at the office but then he came up to me telling you were sick.” She said as she went to the kitchen preparing my meal.

I was busy thinking of who that friend was but only one came to my mind. It couldn’t be him, right? He was having fun with Hyesung, and he couldn’t have known. Jongin who was beside me didn’t, how could he?

After eating a little and taking her medication, she fell asleep still bothered thinking about it.

Kai for weeks now has been trying his best to make up to Krystal for his wrongdoings. Just like today, he’s being sweet to his girlfriend by feeding her.

“Stop it.” Krystal crankily uttered Ever since they got back together, it wasn’t the same for her anymore. She doesn’t know what or why but she became cold to Kai for no apparent reason.

She’s aware of his efforts for her these past weeks but something just doesn’t feel right for her anymore. She’s seeking for someone not around.

“Are you doing this in purpose?” He furiously questioned. Because just like then, he feels dejected every single time. He dropped the spoon he was holding and burst out in anger.

“Purposely doing what” She fired back.

Hitting the table, “This thing..”

“Let’s not talk about it here. I’m tired.” She said.

“All right. Where do you want to talk? I’m tired myself too. We need to talk.” He finally said.

Without saying a word, Soojung stood up and went to the carpark, where no one is around.

For a while now, she thinks too that they really need to discuss about where their relationship is heading.

Getting straight to the point, Jongin said, “Why do you keep on getting mad at me for no reason? I’m trying my best to make it up to you but you’re always making something up that leads to our fight.

She was quiet for a moment after listening to him, guilty, “I’m sorry…” She began.

He didn’t let her continue on, as he said, “Let’s not make this hard for the both of us anymore. Let’s break up.”

If it was back then and he would want a break up, she doesn’t think she could handle it but right now, it doesn’t hurt her anymore. She just felt free and happy.

Ever since he became friends with Minhyuk, everything changed for her. She has been dependent on him. Then it dawned on her, and just like a movie, a series of her moment with Minhyuk flashed right before her eyes.  It all went running back at her. The reason why…why she’s been in constant fight with Kai. Why somehow they always end up in an argument because of her friendship with Minhyuk, and her coming to the latter for rescue. And she never felt sorrier than she is now for their broken relationship. It was her fault, she admits. Because she’s fallen for someone else.

It has been a week and everything went back to normal for Soojung, that’s what Minhyuk likes to believe. They pass by each other at school but they both are aloof with one another. She hasn’t called for nights and he figured that her relationship with Kai is going smooth and strong. Although it is excruciating for him, he wants to think it that way. Even though it is hurting and killing him, it is all right. Instead of her, it is much better if it is only him feeling that way.

As for Minhyuk, it is still the same. He’s frequently hanging out with the guys and sometimes with Hyesung.

“How many entries do we have for the upcoming foundation?” Jonghyun asked his co-members whilst he was seated busy plucking his guitar.

Yonghwa looked at Jonghyun as he answered, “About 4. One from each of us.” shifting his gaze to the other two. Namely, Jungshin and Minhyuk, “Better be ready.” He heeded.

“Cool! You should hold on tight to your position, Leader.” Their bassist jokingly threatened.

What the latter said earned him a laugh from the guys with Yonghwa lightly hitting him on his head.

“On serious note, get your pieces ready so we could go on with our practice. We’ve got a month left.” He said looking at the calendar, the others nodded their heads.

“They’ve broken up, for real.” Jungshin announced soon as he entered their practice room.

Furrowing his brows, Jonghyun asked, “Who?”

“The campus couple!” he answered.

Yonghwa laughed and commented, “You should be a news reporter.”

“You think so?” He gleefully said before continuing, “I’m sorry. That’s what I’ve been hearing since I set foot from the gate. Apparently, the guy has been seeing different girls for a month now. Not comes off as a surprise because he’s been doing that ever since. But just that the hearsay is the last time they broke up, they really did part ways that time.” He explained, laughing.

Minhyuk drank on his water bottle and looked over his phone. He hasn’t gotten any message. It’s strange.

He typed in, “Where are you?”

Not having a reply back, he became impatient. He stood from his seat and went out to search for her.

But with luck, trying to be funny, he bumped into someone who he lastly wants to see.

Before he could even speak, Jongin interrupted him, saying, “You know what? I’m fed up. I’ve had enough of it. So before you do whatever bad things that are in your mind right now, I suggest you go to Krystal.” He said as he gave an evil eye before walking away.

Minhyuk puzzled, he shook away all of his anger on him and focused himself on finding Soojung.

It is already night time but still he couldn’t get hold of her and he doesn’t know what to do.

He’ll die worrying for her. The next days were all the same. It was with no avail, he can’t reach out to her. He even tried going to her house and to her classes but it seems like she doesn’t want his presence. And out of his respect for her, he stopped bothering her.

“Alright. For our last song for tonight, let’s give it up to our drummer, Kang Minhyuk.” Yonghwa said as he clapped his hands and switched places with Minhyuk. A month passed by like a blur and now they’re performing to the school crowd since they were picked as the band representative.

“Go for it.” Yonghwa whispered as he tapped Minhyuk’s shoulder.

Shyly looking around, searching for the one who stole his heart, “Mic test. Mic test.” he said as he tried so hard to look for her. “Hi everyone, this is Kang Minhyuk. This would be the last piece, let’s enjoy the rest of the night. So this song is dedicated to all the ones hurting, I hope this would help mend you.” When he said that, he smiled to the sea of people and landed his eyes to Hyesung winking at his childhood friend, earning a scream from the euphoric fan girls.

The beat started and he started singing from the bottom of his heart, the words he is dying to tell Soojung, he’s letting all out now through this song.

You call me up

It’s like a broken record

Saying that your heart hurts

That you never get over him getting over you

And you end up crying

And I end up lying

‘Coz I’m just a er for anything that you do

As he was singing , a flashback of a night they were talking were playing on his head,

“Minhyuk?” Soojung said.

He trembled, after hearing her call him out. Because it was evident that she just cried her heart out. ‘Baby, if you’re hurting like this, you should be with me now. I’ll make you happy. I promise.’ He bitterly thought to himself.

Feeling helpless, Minhyuk made weird noises and Soojung reacted by laughing. He was relieved, “I’m good at impersonating an engine starting right?”

“Oh my god! Whatever!” She answered  back, still giggling.

He wouldn’t mind making a fool out of himself if in exchange he’d be hearing more of her laughter like this.

And when the phone call finally ends

You say thanks for being a friend

And I’m going in circles again and again

Bidding her goodbye, “Thank you, uri Minhyukie.  You’re the bestest.” She said.

“I love you.” He mouthed before the line went dead. This is the most courage that he could muster and let out. He loves her but she’s in a relationship and he doesn’t want to complicate things between them, especially for her.

I dedicate this song to you

The one who never sees the truth

That I can take away your hurt

Heartbreak girl

As he scanned the crowd once more, his eyes finally stopped and settled to the one he’s expecting for – Soojung. No matter how many swarm his sight, his eyes will always see her. Always.

I bite my tongue but I wanna scream out

You could be with me now

But I end up telling you what you want to hear

But you’re not ready and it’s so frustrating

He treats you so bad and I’m so good to you it’s not fair

And when the phone call finally ends

You say, ‘I’ll call you tomorrow at 10’

And I’m stuck on the friend zone again and again

It’s one of the days again where he saw what he shouldn’t be seeing that made him burst in anger.

He saw Kai flirting with another girl. Thinking he have this amazing lady loving him and yet he’s taking her for granted. What I would do to be on your place, .

You don’t know what you’re losing. If only Soojung loves me, I’d do anything for her.  Once I get the chance of having her affection, I won’t let someone like you be near her again.

But what’s worse for Minhyuk at times like this is that he couldn’t bluntly say it to Soojung. That her bastard of a boyfriend is cheating on her. He could only side with that jerk so he could spare her heart from being wounded more.

The closest thing he can do for retaliation would be comforting those girls he’s flirting with and brainwashing them that they deserve someone better than Kai.

I dedicate this song to you

The one who never sees the truth

That I can take away your hurt

Heartbreak girl

Hold you tight

Straight through the daylight

I’m right here when you’re gonna realize

That I’m your cure

Heartbreak girl

I know someday it’s gonna happen

And you’ll finally forget the day you met him

Sometimes you’re so close to your confession

I gotta get it through your head

That you belong with me instead

“Thank you for listening to me again. The girl you’ll love would surely be the luckiest to have you.” Soojung said one night they were talking on the phone.

He chuckled, “You think so?”

“Yeah. I do believe so. If I’d met you first… There’s no doubt I would have fallen for you.” She said nonchalantly.

He was stunned. The things she said plays on his head every time he’s on the brink of giving up his love for her. It works bigtime.

I dedicate this song to you

The one who never sees the truth                                               That I can take away your hurt

Heartbreak girl

Soojung was avoiding Minhyuk for the past weeks but that didn’t stop her to watch his performance. She knows the effort he has been exerting for its preparation that’s why she still went but tried her best not to be seen.

But the, it was a little late for her when she watched for the stage, and he was already looking and locking gazes with her.

Soojung is not that numb and dense to not realize that the song’s for her. But she won’t concede to that thought. Because doing so means she’ll be expecting and expecting only leads to disappointment.

After weeks of hiding, she showed herself and gave Minhyuk a smile. She’s not denying that she missed him because she really did. All the time she’s been keeping a distance on him, ironically, was all spent thinking of him.

She’s decided. She’ll talk to him. Upon seeing her, Minhyuk thought of the same thing too. He needs to address something to her, his resolve is firm. He’ll confess.

Later that night, the both of them settled to meet at the park nearby their school after an hour of discussion on where they should meet. It was as if they never stopped communicating when they talked once again after that agonizing weeks.

Soojung was the first one to be at their meeting place. It was half an hour early from the time they’ve set. Because she’s nervous, she opted to go beforehand and practice what she’d say.

Minhyuk thought to go too at an earlier time for he doesn’t want her to wait that long but was surprised when he saw her sitting at the end of the slide.

He fleetingly walked to where she was seated – at the end of the slide and stood in front of her.

“ Hi. Did you wait long?” He shyly greeted with a smile.

Soojung was startled to see him in front of her as she wasn’t expecting him just yet. ‘He didn’t hear me, right?’ She thought to herself. She was in a daze. All the things she’s been rehearsing in her head went missing. Her mind went blank. She doesn’t know what to do nor say now that he’s appeared.

She bit her lower lip as she bobs her head, “Hey. Uh, no. Not really. You’re early to be honest.” She said back.

He squatted on the sand to face her. For a good 5 minutes, they were quiet. The silence was always comfortable for the both of them but Soojung’s eyes were shaking. It kept on looking elsewhere. Not just on the man in front. When they locked gazes, one was looking as if it was the last time they’ll be seeing each other – memorizing its features, while the other with longing. But she broke the silence first when she started,

“Let me start off by saying, thank you.” She said as she tried her best to say it to him, eye to eye.

She continued, “You were always there for me whenever, wherever. When I have problems with Kai, you were my shoulder to lean on, you listened to me even though I know you are tired yourself and I am on repeat. You make sure that I am okay, every single time and I couldn’t be more grateful that I got to meet you.”

Minhyuk was silently listening like he always does, understanding everything that she has to say to him. He stared at her whilst he waits for her to say something more.

“One day… It only took you a normal day to completely shift my thoughts from him to you. I don’t know how or why, but somehow you managed to go through me. I just woke up and then there are you. You’re the one I kept on thinking about, every morning I’m finding myself smiling at the thought of seeing you. I stopped hurting for Kai. And I know I shouldn’t – at the time. But I’m not even sure if I really did hurt for him or…” She bowed her head for a moment.

Since it was late at night, the park was silent and the only thing that can be heard was their breathing and the word she uttered later, “..you.” She whispered along with the air as she looked up at him again.

“But I can’t commit just yet. I don’t wanna be unfair to Kai and especially you.” She pointed out, earning a nod from the latter.

She wouldn’t be called his heartbreak girl if she didn’t do that. He was all ready to confess but he decided not to push through for he knows what she meant. And he respects her for that.

Minhyuk stood and climbed the monkey bar coolly. Soojung thought he was about to leave and her eyes followed him.

“Yah! You should be careful.” She exclaimed.

He was panting as soon as he got down, “I’ll wait.” He simply stated. It wasn’t necessary to say that out loud but he just wanted to let her know that he is willing to wait for her until she is ready.

Although she knew that he will definitely do what he’s said, it was simple words that tugged her heartstrings and meant everything for her at that moment. She smiled and nodded.

5 months passed and they continued living their own separate lives. They aren’t on speaking terms. No late night calls, no texts, and inactive social networking sites. No communication at all.

It was hard for the both of them but it was bearable. They needed it. As long as they’re doing their own thing and they can see each other at school, they satiated with stolen longing glances.

Everything was doing well but not until that day came. When all of Soojung’s effort went to waste as her heightened ill feeling of jealousy came to her like a gushing wind.

Minhyuk has always been true to his words and Soojung trusts that. It was just her emotions are everywhere. She knows it is not proper for her to feel that way but it doesn’t just sit well with her the feeling of someone else having him. Because Minhyuk is Soojung’s. She only wants him for herself. She’s selfish and greedy but that’s just the way it is.

It may come off rude but Krystal went on her way to claim what is hers.

“Do you have a minute?” She intruded as she tried her best not to look at the girl and instead, directed her gaze at Minhyuk.

On the other hand, Minhyuk was busy talking with Shinhye, a senior that he looks up to when Soojung suddenly interrupted them.

He missed her, alright? It is nice to hear her voice again and be near her after a long time but he didn’t quite like the way she approached them.

He could already see the taunting eyes of Shinhye. He took a deep breath before he answered, “Can’t it be later? I kind of promised Hyesung to meet her today.”

What?! Soojung knew who Hyesung was but still she took a side glance at the girl he’s with to confirm that it is not his bestfriend.

What the hell! Why is he hanging out with lots of girls? Has it always been like this? He has his bandmates that are guy.

agape, she was speechless for a second, “Nevermind.” She said as she gave the lady he is with a small smile before silently leaving mad. It came absolutely late but she knows her manners.

“Aww! She’s such a cutie.” Shinhye said as soon as Soojung was out of earshot.

He chuckled and shook his head, “I know. She’s too cute for my heart to handle.”

But in a matter of seconds, her reaction abruptly changed and gave Minhyuk a beating.

“I admire you but what is that for?” He asked ignorantly as he tends to the beating he received.

She glared, “Yah! Idiot! How could you do tha? She’s jealous.”

“What? Why? I mean, she knows where she stands to me. And you’re my friend so why would she be?” he asked, clueless.

“How could you get any dumber?” As she gave him one last whack to his head. “First of, he doesn’t acknowledge me. Second, you’re being cozy to me. And lastly, Hyesung. Is it right to mention her name at that situation? Or any girl for that matter? You’ve been announcing to her that you’ve been spending time with girls like crazy.” She explained before leaving the insensible man behind.

She stopped midway and looked back at him, “One last piece of advice. Cancel your plans with Hyesung. Go get the girl or lose her forever.” She said and continued retreating.

Soojung flipped her phone and slump herself on the bed. Minhyuk is trying to get hol'd of her but she wouldn’t let him. Not now that she’s sad, frustrated and disappointed. She decided to ignore him for the time being. Until her emotions subside. Because talking to him right at this moment would not be good and would just cause damage to the both of them. She’s hurt and she doesn’t want to utter words that will surely make her sorry later.

Except that Minhyuk is not Minhyuk if he will not insist on calling it a night unless he gets to talk to Soojung to clear and sort things out with her. Their conversation earlier after 5 long months didn’t go well with the mistake he committed and he’s not someone who’ll drag it up longer. He believes that open communication is the key of it all.

The only problem now is how to get to her. She’s not responding to his calls and messages and he’s beginning to feel helpless.

Still, he went to the park’s playground and sat on the swing chair. He left her a message saying he’ll be there. Hopefully, she’s read it and will choose to go. But if not, he’ll still wait. Because that’s Soojung, that’s how worth it she is.

An hour past and no sight of her. He doesn’t want to leave yet. So he decided to stay some more. But reality was, he’s buying more time. Because maybe she’ll show up and he doesn’t want her to find no one waiting for her.

On another hand, Soojung wasn’t feeling sleepy. The damn guy is clouding her head and she hates it. She stood up from her bed and opted to walk outside to have some air and to get rid of everything she’s thinking.

She doesn’t have any place in mind but subconsciously her feet hauled her to the playground. She was about to take a u-turn when the last person she wanted to see now has appeared right before her eyes.

She was frozen from where she was standing.

Minhyuk figured that she’s not coming and therefore walked out with heavy footsteps. He was looking down throughout and when he was near the end of the outdoor area, he took one quick glance back. When he sees no one, he continued on rambling and was thankful her stalled for seeing her upfront.

“You came.” He said, unbelieving for he was thinking that maybe his mind is playing games with him that he began seeing things. But he affirmed it was real when she spoke.

“What are you doing here?” She asked in wonder. It was almost midnight and he shouldn’t be loitering around here. Besides, this park is way far from their house.

‘Of course, she hadn’t read it.’ He thought. But he is fortunate that though she didn’t, still they’ve crossed paths. It favored him seeing that kismet is real.

“Well, I-uh…” He shivered a bit, staying out there in the cold for two hours finally got into him. “I was waiting for you..”

She noticed him shuddered a little, ‘When was he here? He knows I won’t come unless I replied or it was a prior agreement. What is he trying to do?’ The thought enraged her and the emotions she was holding up and trying to bury rose suddenly and perked up.

“You did? Really? Doesn’t seem like it. If your definition of waiting is spending time hanging out with your girls then stop waiting. I don’t want any of it.” She snapped.

She’s trying her best to control her temper but with him coming in her sight is making things harder for her. That is the reason why she wanted to postpone their meeting -because of this. She hates to admit it but that unnamed emotion she’s been feeling she could name it very well now – Jealousy. It is because she’s jealous, very much so.

Minhyuk was taken aback by the cold treatment he got but that didn’t stop him from understanding her. He made a mistake and he acknowledges her wrath.

He doesn’t know what to say but what his Shinhye Noona told him earlier about what Soojung might have felt didn’t escape him. She was damn right, very accurate. Why did he realize this now? She’s adorable. He suppresses a laugh, making him look like he was smiling.

“Wow! You’re unbelievable. You even have the decency to smile at this situation.” She exclaimed.

He didn’t held back any longer, he chuckled, “I’m sorry,”

She gave him a death glare and planned to go back home when he said,

“Back to business,” He said. “Since you’re already here, let’s talk about us.” As he pulled her with him back to the swing.

Soojung dreaded the talk but it’s a must and badly needed. So, he let him tow her.

They sat there silent for a couple of minutes when Minhyuk finally dared to break the ice.

“Where do I start?” He asked and draws a breath, “I miss you.” He uttered, first thing first.

Soojung quietly listened. ‘I miss you too.’ She said on her mind. She sorely wanna say it out loud but halted for she wanted him to finish everything he has to say.

“It has been, what, 5 tormenting months without talking to you. I was fine though, because you needed space and I still get to see you at the campus.” He said, whilst he plays with his hands. “About this morning, I won’t say sorry for whatever you were thinking but I apologize for being insensitive. It is my fault I wasn’t that vocal to what it was I am feeling. But if it isn’t clear to you yet, I’m not dating anyone because I am waiting for someone. And to set things straight with you, my definition of waiting is far from what you were thinking. My waiting means loyalty. It meant that what I am waiting for is worth it and that I am serious and I’m in for a long-term. So, I waited. I still am, to be honest.”

It was enough to remove all her worries and doubts but she won’t end it that way. They’ve wasted a lot of time and it is high time to completely erase further uncertainties that she began her part as she simply uttered,

“I love you.” As she stared up and search for his eyes.

Minhyuk was confounded but he shook his head. “You don’t have to say it to make me feel better.  Take your time. I’m not rushing things, anyway.” He assured.

Soojung stood from her seat to face him. “Do you think I don’t mean it?” She fired back, a bit offended. But she knows where he’s coming from. That is one of the reasons why she didn’t want to build a relationship with him that soon. Because it would be unfair for his part and it’d surely hurt him since he was the one who was there for her in times of her trouble. She doesn’t want to lead him into thinking he’s being used as an option because he’s not. He doesn’t deserve that kind of love. But since they are now in a situation wherein she couldn’t hold back and deny anymore what she’s feeling that she decided to say those three words.

He looked down, “No. Of course not.” He answered softly.  “I just…. You were healing from your past relationship and I don’t want to make it harder for you that is why I am telling you that you can take all the time you need to think things through. I can’t risk it. I don’t wanna rush this because I badly want this to work and be for a long time that I’ll be fine with waiting and taking things slow.” He explained.

She took a step closer to him and lifted his chi for them to have an eye contact. “I already did. I’ve made up my mind for so long. And that is my answer. I love you. Let’s not waste more time. I trust you. Will you do the same? And will you take responsibility of me?”

Minhyuk couldn’t be happier than he is feeling tonight. He rose up and placed her to his embrace, “Gladly, my heartbreak girl.” as he whispered to her ear.

“I can’t believe it, though. If I had known you were this possessive, I could’ve plotted with Shinhye Noona and Hyesung much sooner to cut short the yearning from months to days.” He chuckled as he pulled away from the hug to see her face.

She smiled sardonically, “And here you are talking about taking this slow. Do you want to extend it? I could add seven more months. Should I make it a year?” She asked, now with a victorious laugh.

Placing his hand on his chin, like he was thinking, “I’m in no hurry.” He said in a comeback, “I could use that time paying Hyesung for standing her up too.” He said like it was a moment of eureka for him.

‘Is this how you’re playing? Okay. I get it.’ She positioned herself and placed her hands at the front as she lays her head low, “Thank you. It was nice meeting you.”

When she was done bowing, she scowled as she fumbled her phone in her pocket. She was thoroughly scanning something on her handphone whilst the guy is still laughing like there is no tomorrow at her.

“Where could he be at this hour?” She mumbled to herself making Minhyuk curious as to what she was up to.

He silently stood on her side, trying to take a peek and frowned soon after he saw the caller id.

“Oh, Kai-“ she was now at her phone and about to talk to the other person but got cut when in a swift move, her phone was now in Minhyuk’s hand cancelling the call.

“Yah! What are you doing?” She asked as she strains herself not to laugh at the latter.

He instantly fell silent and she noticed it too. She felt bad after doing so and easily makes it up to him by giving him a peck on the lips.

“I love you. I love you. I love you.” She said as her voice slowly began to rise with each word.

Upon hearing that he instantly melted, he was smiling from ear to ear. She can easily switch his emotions, the only one who could affect him like that. She’s the one and only.

He doesn’t mind if his heart gets broken or if she keeps on breaking it. As long as it is her, it would be worth it. Since she’s his heartbreak girl.
