Chapter 28: Unpleasant Date

Innocent Love

The sun glistens through the curtains, and the windows slightly opened letting the fresh summer breeze in as Jungkook and Jimin, slept, arms wrapped each other, breathing in unison as their chest raises up and down, and their body’s warm from each other’s embrace. Jimin mutters something, opening his eyes slightly, he gazes at Jungkook, smiling to myself, he could not believe he pushed him away, someone who loved him more than he could ever imagine, he bites his lip, he takes his arms off Jungkook and places his head on his chest, listening to his beating heart, his chest moving up and down. He looks at the alarm clock, it read nine o’clock, he gasps, jumping off the bed, freaking out, he could not believe he was two hours late,

“!

Jungkook opens his eyes, sleepy and annoyed, “What?”

“I’m late for work,” says Jimin. Jungkook ruffles his hair, staring at him blank and dazed,

“But you called in,” he says, as Jimin puts on his pants, he stops, staring at Jungkook, dumbfounded,

“You called in at six,” says Jungkook, “Told them you were sick or something.” Jimin exhales, relieved, he shakes his head, sitting back on the bed, he was freaking out for no reason, he did not realize he did call in sick, Jungkook sits up,

“You forgot?”

Jimin nods his head, “My head is in million other places.” He was so jealous last night, when he saw Jungkook hug Lalisa, his mind was in a lot of places but as soon as Jungkook hugged him, comforting him, he knew he was just being silly, how could Jungkook ever love someone else, he belongs to him, it has always been that way, no matter how ridiculous Jimin behaves at times,

“Sorry,” mutters Jimin, “For acting childish last night.” Jungkook back hugs him, his arms wrapped around his chest tight, and head leaning on his shoulder, Jimin’s heart melts and his body warms up at the unexpected action,

“I missed you,” whispers Jungkook, still holding him,

“I love you,” says Jimin, “I was messed up, my dad’s sudden heart attack, unable to think straight, I abandon everyone, especially you, even though you stayed beside me through it all. Hyung can be selfish sometimes, I…was just scared, of the consequences and didn’t want to drag you into my problems.” Jungkook kisses his neck, making him flinch and shy,

“You know you can be a bit dramatic sometimes, hyung,” teases Jungkook, “I know all that, that’s why I’m not upset.”

“Not upset?” says Jimin, frowning, “Who called me a coward, a couple of days ago?” Jungkook lets go of him, feeling embarrassed, he rubs his neck,

“Okay,” he says, “I was a little upset, only because you wouldn’t talk to me, sorry I said those things.”

Jimin turns to face him, smiling, he lifts his chin up with his hand, “Forget about it,” he says, kissing him on the lip, “Let’s not dwell on the past.” Jungkook grins, he takes Jimin’s hand,

“So, what now?” Jimin stares at him, confused,

“Ohhh, I’ll handle everything,” he answers, “Don’t worry, I’ll never leave you again.”

After showering and getting dressed, they decide to go down for breakfast, but Jimin wanted to go home, feeling embarrassed and shy, he has slept over at Jungkook’s house many times, but that time his mom was not aware of their relationship status, after passing the living room last night, holding hands, he knew it was impossible to talk his way of it. Jimin stops, hearing chattering from the dining room, causing Jungkook to bump into him,

“Ya,” scolds Jungkook.

“Your mom is in the dining room,” whispers Jimin, “Didn’t she have work? Is everyone off today?” Jungkook laughs,

“Scared?” he teases. Jimin pouts, nodding his head no, but his entire body betrayed him, he was scared, he got along with Jungkook’s mom but never actually spoke to her since they started dating, he knew she knows Jungkook’s gay, but he has never thought about if Jungkook ever told her, they were together. Jungkook grabs his hand, Jimin’s feet glued to the floor, he didn’t want to move,

“Hyung,” scolds Jungkook, pouting and glaring at him, Jimin sighs and starts to walk behind him, dragging his feet, his heart racing at every step they take. Jungkook lets go of his hand as, they walk into the dining room, his mom, and Sana, looking at them.

“Good morning Jungkook, Jimin?” says his mother, “You slept over?”

“Yeah, he did,” replies Jungkook, motioning for him to take a sit, Jimin smiles, trying not to appear nervous, even though he wanted to crawl out of his skin. They sit down, Jungkook places a plate of strawberry pancakes in front of him, he puts bacon on the plate and pours orange juice in the glass for him, Jimin was quiet, his eyes looking everywhere except at his mom. He tags on Jungkook's shirt, mouthing for him to stop, feeling embarrassed, Jungkook grabs a plate of food for himself and starts eating. The air was intense, but he did not feel any negative vibe,

“How’s your father?” asks Jungkook’s mother, looking at him, Jimin looks up from his plate,

“He’s fine,” he replies, “He already went back to work.”

“That’s good,” she says, “Your mom told me, you’re going back to school, you’re not dancing anymore?”

He exchanges looks with Jungkook, who was staring at him, curious about his answer,

“I am, but I can dance anywhere, I just chose not to go to New York.”

“That’s good, you’re not a child anymore, it’s good to think about the long run, your father can use your help at work” she says, her tone changing, more serious, she turns to Jungkook, “Making decision is not an impulsive thing, it’s good to think about your parents before yourself, occasionally.” Jimin forces a smile and takes a sip of the orange juice, he knew, that comment was directed at Jungkook, but Jungkook seemed oblivious, not even paying attention, just shoving pancakes in his mouth. The rest of the breakfast passed by in silence, Jungkook’s mother did not say anything else, she just kept talking to Sana, glancing at Jimin every then and now, Jimin could not tell what she was thinking, did she approve of their relationship or not? She never said what she was thinking, she did not appear to be angry, and Jungkook never brought it up.

Jimin spent the rest of the day in his room, talking on the phone with Taehyung and Mina, asking them for an advice, he decided to tell his father, but he first decided to be upfront with Sulli before coming out to his father. He realized he never gave her an answer since she confessed to him, he just ignored her, he did not want to be rude to her, so he decided to call her and invite her out for dinner, so he can tell her face to face. He was planning on telling her over the phone, but Taehyung talked him out of it, saying that it was an move to reject someone over the phone, Jimin realized he was right, he would not want to be rejected over the phone, so he decided not to do it to someone else.

The hour was approaching, Jimin, nervous, paces back and forth in his room, he has rejected people before it was not a problem, but has never rejected someone close to his parents, like Sulli was. He knows how fond of her his parents were, for different reasons, his dad wanted her to be his daughter in law and his mom just likes how honest and straightforward she was, he did not want his rejection to have an impact on her relationship with his parents. Jimin sighs, inhaling and exhaling, thinking and pondering, he grabs the keys and heads out. He arrives at the restaurant, it was not busy, so he was glad, he does not know what kind of person Sulli was, but he knew she would not make a scene in public, she did not seem that kind of girl. He enters the restaurant and realizes she was already there, she waves at him, he walks towards her, palms sweating and heart racing, she motions for him to take a seat.

“Hi,” he says, sitting down, she smiles at him, “Were you waiting for long?” She nods her head no,

“It’s on my way from home,” she replies.

“You came straight from work?”

“Yeah, don’t worry about it,” she says, “Do you want to order?” Jimin nods his head, they ordered, silence fills the air around them, Jimin bites his lip, his eyes resting on the people behind her, he clears his throat, and she looks at him,

“Um…” he says, “I want to thank you for taking care of my dad, you didn’t have too, so thanks for taking time out of your schedule to help with his exercises.”

“It was my pleasure,” she says, “Uncle has always been nice to me, he’s the one who convinced my father, to let me do both fitness training and working at the company.”

“Really?” he says, he had no idea, his father was so close to her family, he takes of a sip of water and clears his throat, “Um, I had no idea.”

“Yeah, he speaks of you well,” she says, “Your decision to work and help him, is all he talks about whenever we’re together, he’s really proud of you.” Jimin smiles, hearing that his father was proud of him, made him happy but at the same time sadden, scared of being the cause of his sadness,

“Um…I just,” he says clearing his throat, he starts to twirl the ring, quiet for a second, unable to find the words, she clears ,

“You’re dating someone else, right?” He looks up at her, shocked and dumbfounded, how does she know. Her eyes land on the ring he was twirling, he did not even realize he was playing with it, he nods, he could not keep his gaze,

“I told you how I felt because I wanted it off my chest,” she says, tone changing, “You never said a word, at first I wanted to assume you felt the same but then I noticed the ring.” He sighs relieved, he did not have to say anything, he smiles,

“You’re a very beautiful and thoughtful person,” he says, “If I was straight and not in love with Jungkook, you would totally be the girl I would like to date.” She looks up, eyes wide, mouth open,

“You’re gay?” she asks, in a low voice,

“Um, yeah,” says Jimin, “I thought you knew?” She shakes her head no, quiet for second, processing what he just said, she looks at him and burst out laughing, Jimin stares at her confused,

“Oh my god,” she says, catching her breath, “Wow, for a second I thought I could compete with the girl you were dating and try to win your heart but now it’s so impossible, you’re really gay.” Jimin still confused shakes his head, she continues laughing, covering ,

“Oh my god,” she says, “I’m so glad.”

“Huh?”

She sighs, relieved, looking at him, she smiles, “At least now I don’t have to worry why I wasn’t good enough?” They stare at each other for a second, before bursting out laughing. The dinner went by easily, they talked, and she asked him if he was out to his family, he told her only his mom knew but he still has not told his father. She smiles at him, placing her hand on his, encouraging him and telling him to go for it. He told her why he has not told him yet and she told him to not be scared, the one thing she noticed from helping his father with his exercises, is how much he loves him and his mom, her words made Jimin encourage, he was more determined now to tell his father. After dinner, he paid for both, Sulli joking about how he better pays since he broke her heart, Jimin still did not understand her sense of humor, but he was glad, she did not take it badly and even offered to help him with his father, but he kindly declined. He walks her to her car.

“Jimin,” she calls out before driving away, “Can we be friends?” Her words left him stunned, wondering how she would still want to be friends with him, after rejecting her, he smiles, nodding his head,

“Of course,” he says, “I’ll be honored to be friends with you.”

“Me too,” she replies, she waves at him as she drives away.

On the way home, Jimin, happy, he pulls up at his house and notices Jungkook standing outside his gate on the sidewalk, was he waiting for me?  Jimin pulls over, he rolls down the window, he realizes Jungkook did not look happy,

“What’s up?” asks Jimin,

“We need to talk,” says Jungkook. Jimin, confused and dazed, drive through to the parking garage while Jungkook waited outside. He quickly turns off the car and walks towards Jungkook, whose hands were in his sweater pockets, staring at his feet.

“What’s wrong?” asks Jimin, worried,

Jungkook glares at him, “Where were you?”

“Um, out with a friend,” replies Jimin, “What’s wrong?”

“You mean out on a date?” says Jungkook, angry.

“Um…what date?” says Jungkook, “I didn’t go out on a date…” Jungkook interrupts him,

“Then why did your father say you were out on a date with some girl, you have been seeing.” Jimin’s mouth drops open, trying to figure out what was happening, dad, Sulli must’ve told her parents she was meeting up with Jimin and her parents must’ve told his dad, or else how would he have known. Jimin burst out laughing, Jungkook stares at him, baffled, Jimin catches his breath, he forgot he never told Jungkook about his dad trying to set him up with Sulli before, he only told her she was a family friend.

“I went out with Sulli,” he explains, “You met at the gym once remember, she is a family friend. Our parents want to set us up.”

“So why go on a date with her then?”

Jimin sighs, “It wasn’t exactly a date, I told her I was gay and that I was in a relationship.” Jungkook’s mouth open, he bites his lip, embarrassed, his whole-body language changing, Jimin folds his arm,

“You thought I went on a secret date?” he teases him, pretending to be angry, “You think I am capable of seeing someone behind your back.” Jungkook smiles, feeling foolish,

“No,” he says, “I was just surprised is all.”

Jungkook sits on the bed, with his hood on his head, Jimin watching him from the corner of his eyes as he changes into a t-shirt and sweats.

“So how did she take?” he asks,

“Better than I anticipated,” says Jimin, “She is a good person, I felt bad leading her on, by not saying something sooner.”

“You probably thought it was going to be a drama, huh,” he teases Jimin. Jimin glares at him,

“I don’t exaggerate,” he says defending himself, Jungkook laughs,

“What?”

“Everything you do is a drama,” he says. Jimin walks towards him and going to punch him, but Jungkook stops him by grabbing his wrist and pulling him down. Jimin struggles to get his hand out his grip but it was useless, Jungkook pulls him down, both falling on the bed, with Jimin on top of him, he wraps his arms around him. Jimin stares into his almond shaped brown eyes, sharp and intense as if he was staring into Jimin’s soul, he smiles and leans down, his lips pressing down into Jungkook’s lip.
