Author's Note
Broken MirrorsFirst of all, I would like to thank all my subscribers for supporting and reading this story. If it weren't for you guys this story would never be finished. But above all, there are a few things that I would like to clarify due to so many polarized opinions regarding how it ended. And since school is starting again, this will be my last note for a while since it's a boarding school that is practically deserted without any access to the internet.
One, many suggest that I remove the 'Markhyuck' tag from this story because it wasn't a clear portrayal of what the story was about. If people continued reading this fanfiction expecting it to be a romantic love story of sorts between Mark and Donghyuck - yes, it was a love story from the very start even during Human Touch. Just not a romantic one.
Two, as much as there was a 'Markhyuck' tag in the story, there was also a 'sequel' tag - meaning the people who read this most probably should read its prequel, Human Touch before diving into this story. It was a pure platonic ship between the two in the first story, and people understood and did not mind it being that way. And that was why it should not be a problem in this sequel as well, even though Mark has a different (straight) love interest here.
Going back to why I still consider this a love story between Mark and Donghyuck, because this is my piece of work and this reflects my opinions - love stories do not necessarily have to be in a romantic form to show how much affection people have towards each other. Even before I released the first chapter, even in Human Touch - there was never going to be romantic feelings between the two and it never changed in Broken Mirrors. Love is when people are able to accept the differences in others, and I wanted to show that in here. And I have also mentioned that Mark and Donghyuck are more than brothers, they are soulmates. Soulmates are people who connect with each other no matter the circumstances, in any form and in this case, it is a platonic one.
Three, this was a story to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ issues, in a not so heavy way. I apologize for not putting it in the foreword ( to make it so obvious) and how hard it is to keep it a secret of who one is when it makes them happy. Human Touch was focused purely on overcoming mental illness, so why would it be a problem if Broken Mirrors was focused on being one's true self? Another rebuttal, is that in the first story it was about Mark and Donghyuck helping each other - while the second story switches to them being able to adapt without each other yet learning to put each first at the same time.
Lastly, the reason I write is because I enjoy it, it is purely coming from my heart and I prefer viewing some ships (not all okay?) as merely a sibling bond because I think that's the strongest bond of all - and it is not for the sake of pleasing people. How well this story ended is up to anyone's opinion, but the deed has been done and so it is time to move on from it.
I do apologise for this note being longer than expected, but I just wanted to clarify my personal views on the story that I wrote and why I will not be changing any part of it. Do continue to support NCT as a whole because they deserve it so much and I will not be active for a while since this is senior year (so studies actually matter) and I wish you all a good day!
Sincerely, Swareece.
