It was still dawn when Jeongyeon woke up.

The unwelcoming clamour of noises from the house party across from her apartment had startled her awake. Bright beams were shone into the huddle gathered in the party hosts’ living room in the form of a small disco ball plastered onto the ceiling. Some of that light had generously seeped through across to Jeongyeon’s window into her room radiating light into the darkness she was in. Jeongyeon sat up, eyelids barely managed to flicker open before closing again as if with a mind of their own that sleep was still needed before they were functional for the rest of the day.  Somehow managing to keep one eye open with much effort, she steals a glance at the clock sat on the bedside table – 4:37am. She threw off the duvet and placed her feet on the floor. Reaching for the curtains, she had spotted a girl from across the party stood on the balcony for some fresh air and now had met her gaze. Jeongyeon thought she must have saw wrong as the girl had given her a peculiar look just before she swiftly slid the curtains across, blocking out the rowdiness outside of her room and headed for the bathroom.

The water was so cold it stung. She left the tap running as she regarded herself in the mirror. A greyish pale, hollow-cheeked being returned her look. The heavy bags under the eyes had grown with time, long accustomed to the lack of sleep. The once mischievous glint found from the rim of her brown irises was now washed over with a veil of sorrow that lingers, clouding any light to be seen from her vision. She ran a hand over the slightly brown auburn damaged hair that was clearly due for a treatment. The length had grown slightly, close to touching the shoulders and the colour had dissipated like an unwanted reminder of reality with herself. Her jawline had always been prominent but now it was even more define
