chapter 01

Waiting.

It was something Byun Seoeun was good at.

It was 12 in the morning, 4 hours past the time her fiance was supposed to come back. The food that she had prepared for the both of them had long gone cold. She sighed, they were supposed to have dinner together, but once again he had failed to show up.

Not that he was a jerk or anything. No, if anything her fiance was probably one of the most chivalrous men she had ever met, although he showed his affection in a more subtle way. Min Yoongi wasn’t one to leave his fiance hanging, he was just an extremely busy man. After all what did you expect from one of Seoul’s most promising politicians?

Seoeun glared at the clock on the wall, it was mocking her and selfishness. It had been a few weeks since she and Yoongi had had a proper conversation and while she understood the nature of her fiance’s work, she couldn’t help but long for his presence. She missed him.

With a sigh she stood up, there was no need for her to wallow in self pity right now. She stopped herself before she could allow herself to clean up what was supposed to be their dinner and called a maid, Yoongi would certainly scold her if he had found out that she had done such chores. What would people say if they knew that I treated my wife like this? He had said.

She stepped into their room and gazed at it solemnly, for all its luxury it didn’t ease her sadness whatsoever. Her eyes wandered towards the picture of her and Yoongi smiling framed right above the queen sized bed. A wave of nostalgia hit her, when was the last time she and Yoongi had taken a photo that wasn’t at a gala or a luncheon? Seoeun couldn’t remember.

She tiredly walked towards the bed and laid on it, yet despite the silk sheets she drowned in, she couldn’t help but feel awfully cold.

Waiting.

It was something Byun Seoeun was good at.

Albeit that seemed like a rather sad thing be good at.

Freedom and happiness.

These were the things Kim Taehyung longed for.

Sunlight bled into the the room, awakening a rather groggy Kim Taehyung. The clock read 7:32 AM, 28 minutes before the opening of his cafe, Cafe Vante.

He cursed under his breath as he hurriedly got himself ready, perhaps going out to smoke at 3AM hadn’t been such a good idea after all.

But then again he was Kim Taehyung and he did whatever the he wanted, even if those actions led to some rather unpleasant consequences.

Taehyung grumbled in annoyance as his phone rang in the middle of him putting on his shoes.  He looked at the ID Caller and groaned, Jeon Jungkook, it read, and knowing how persistent the said guy was, he picked it up while fumbling with his laces.

“What do you want Jungkook?”

“You had them again didn’t you?” Jungkook asked in concern.

Taehyung remained silent. There was no need for him to reply, not when they both knew the answer.

“Hyung, did they come back again?” he repeated, “Yah hyung, answer me. You know that I’m onl-”

“What if I did?” he said forcefully.

Jungkook sighed from the other line, “Hyung, I’m only concerned about your well being. If you did have them again, see a therapist, keeping all of it to yourself isn't going to do you any good”

“I’m perfectly fine, Jungkook” he gritted out.

“We both know that that’s a lie hyung”

Taehyung hated how Jungkook knew him so well. But what he hated more than that was that Jungkook just couldn’t seem to understand him.

“Hyung, there’s this really good therapi-”

“I don’t have a therapist, and I don’t need a therapist” he said coldly, his eyes hardening.

“Hyung-” Jungkook was getting desperate.

“Jungkook-ah, can we stop talking about this? I’m fine”

“I know that you’re lying hyung” he said in accusation.

“I’m fine Jungkook, I’ll see you later. I’m already late as it is” he said in a tone of finality before ending the call.

Taehyung sighed in exasperation, he hated how right Jungkook was. He wasn’t the least bit okay, and he knew that.

But he sure as hell didn’t need a therapist, that’d make it all too true for him to handle.

Freedom and happiness.

Those were the things Kim Taehyung longed for.

Both of which he’d never achieve so long as his past haunted him.
