Rebelling Heart
Description
“So let me make sure I understand.” I whisper looking down at my fists balled so tight my knuckles are white, “I can choose to stay but be miserable.”
Without even looking I know my mother sends me a pointed look. “You can choose to stay and be well taken care of.” My mother’s voice portrays this like it’s likeable, preferable.
“Or I can leave.”
“And never come back. You leave and you’ll be all on your own. I won’t look for you; I won’t even bat an eyelash.” My own mother says, to me her only child. “You can stay and marry Mr. Chan’s son and help the merger or you can leave your home and me.” Looking up I see the cold stare, I know she’s being serious her icy tone is enough proof to me. “Your choice.”
That conversation took place two weeks ago. I suppose this brings us to where I am now, alone, and all one my own.
Foreword
I knew my mother was controlling, I knew that she'd make me leave if I didn't do what she wanted. I knew what she wanted, I just didn't realize how much she wanted it. I knew the consequence if I defied her. So why am I so surprised now?
