Debuting as idols means they weren’t supposed to own phones. However, this hurdle did not stop two idols from keeping in contact with each other. Jiyong and Taeyeon both debuted around the same time and there were not many idols at that time compared to now. From exchanging bows backstage, a friendship slowly developed - between their respective groups as well. They could understand each other and relate well to problems as both share the burden of being a nation’s group leader.

So how did Jiyong and Taeyeon stay in contact despite their no cellphones, no communication with groups from rival company, no talking to opposite gender groups fiasco. Letters, they wrote to each other as often as they can.
