The Beast

EXO: The Beginning: The Beast

“Hey want to play with me?”

Two kids looked up to meet with huge bright eyes. They gasped once they realized it was HIM. “O-Oh, no thanks! We’ll play by ourselves!” the taller boy said before grabbing his friend’s hand and running off. The intruding boy reached out to say something but didn’t. He stood silently before balling up his fists. It was always like this… Nobody ever wanted to play with the child. Why? Well… He was an orphan.

His name is Do Kyungsoo, age eleven. He was from the 12th District of Gnayog but was brought to the orphanage when he was 5, after his family was wiped out from the plague. He made friends but they all left to new homes. And now… It was difficult to make any because…

Kyungsoo gritted his teeth as he stomped on the ground, cracks appearing. He could hear children scream as they took cover. “Miss Taeyeon!!! Kyungsoo’s at it again!!!” a child screamed over at the teacher.

He had super strength….

“Kyungsoo! “ The teacher cried out as she made her way to him. Kyungsoo stared down, breathing hard. He could see her feet in front of him but refused to make eye contact. “Kyungsoo-ah… You know you shouldn’t be doing this.” He heard her say. He sniffed a bit before wiping his eyes. “Hey… I know it’s hard to play with the other kids but you don’t have to be stomping everywhere.”

Finally he looked up to meet her bright sparkling eyes. “Come on. You can play with me and Youngjae.” She offered, taking his small hand. Kyungsoo nodded as he followed, wiping his eyes.

So what if he was eleven and threw a tantrum? He was just tired of being pushed away from the other kids because of his strength. Every day he would ask with the kindest gesture and they pushed him away. Every day he caused cracks on the ground. It was just annoying and tiring.

Kyungsoo stayed quiet beside Taeyeon as they approached another boy who was playing with clay. The boy squealed as he made a huge mess with his clay. He looked up at the approaching two, before throwing in the brightest and largest smile, Kyungsoo had ever seen.

“Hyung! You like my flower?” He asked, holding up a poorly made clay flower. Kyungsoo made a face. “Youngjae, it looks like you just punched the heck out of it!” he criticized. He could see Youngjae laugh loudly before punching his work.

”Punch! Punch!”

If only the eight year old wasn’t precious, Kyungsoo would have scolded him for making such a mess. He sighed as he sat there, looking at his hands. What if he got rid of his powers? Would everyone want to play with him?

“Yah! You aren’t thinking about your powers are you?!” Taeyeon snapped, scolding at the eleven year old. Kyungsoo shook his head! “N-NO! I was thinking how to make a bear!” he defended himself. Taeyeon was scary to have known he was.

Taeyeon smiled, satisfied with his answer. “Good. Because you are perfect with or without powers.” She said as she ruffled his hair. Youngjae beamed up at his older friend. “Hyung, don’t worry about the others! You have me!” he assured.

“Thanks, Youngjae and Miss Taeyeon.” Kyungsoo bowed his head a bit before letting a small smile crawl. “Alright, alright. I got to play with the others, play nice!” Taeyeon giggled as she walked away, leaving the two to themselves.

It was quiet at first, without Youngjae’s constant
one liner ‘Punch’. Kyungsoo watched as the once horrible flower became poop. He sighed as he finally decided to say something to the innocent child. “It looks like poop.”

Youngjae busted into fits of laughter before chanting. “Poop! Poop!” he grinned, before smacking his work. Kyungsoo couldn’t help but laugh as he watched the other boy wreck his work. “Youngjae, let’s do something! We could play on the swings!” he said as he stood up.

The other boy nodded, standing up like a rocket. “Let’s go!” he cried as he transformed into an airplane. Kyungsoo smiled as he watched the other one fly to the swings, hearing his little poor airplane noises. He was about to tell Youngjae he looked weird when a ball smacked him square on the face, causing him to fall back.

“Yah! Kyungsoo! Pick it up!”

Kyungsoo stood up to see three tall boys smirking down at him. He shot a glare before starting his route to the swings again. It was the three biggest bullies in the Orphanage, Zak, Ted, and Leon.

“Hey! We said to pick it up!” one of them shouted, shoving Kyungsoo from behind. He fell down again, with a soft ‘oof’ following. The boys laughed as they watched him. “Look at him! He fell down like a baby penguin!” One of the boys teased as the other two mocked how penguins walked.

“Just leave me alone.”

Trying to avoid them, Kyungsoo walked toward the swings. At the swings he saw Youngjae watching, his face not hard to read. He could see the boy was worried. He smiled as he walked forward, until he felt a tug at the back of his shirt.

“Where are you going?”

He struggled away as Zak took hold of him. “You still haven’t picked up our ball!” The other, Ted, exclaimed, obviously irritated. “Just pick it up yourselves!” Kyungsoo shouted, having enough. What was so hard about that?

Leon pursed his lips as he snatched the smaller boy from Zak. “Pick it up. “He ordered as he threw the boy down to the ball. The other two snickered as they saw mud smeared on the small boys jeans. Leon joined in, not wanting to be left out.

As they laughed, Kyungsoo slowly got up. He grabbed the ball, staring at the red color intensely.

“….”

“Oh, he picked it up. Now hand it over.” One of the three said, but Kyungsoo couldn’t tell who. “Alright,” was the response before a loud pop was heard.

The three boys jumped as they saw Kyungsoo had popped the ball with his bare hands. “W-What the heck?! We were playing with that!”

“You freaking idiot!”

“Who said to pop it?!”

The three boys began to shove Kyungsoo who held his stand, with a glare. “It was your fault for bothering me!” he defended himself. If they just got the balls themselves and left him alone, it wouldn’t have happened. They were lucky he didn’t throw it them. Why? Well, let’s just say they wouldn’t be able to move for a long while... A long, long while.

“Stop it!” Youngjae cried as he ran in front of Kyungsoo, his arms shielding the older one.

The boys stared at the youngest one with confusion. “Get out of the way, kid!” they scolded. “No! The bad hyungs will hurt Kyung-hyung!” He argued, his cheeks puffed out. “Move or-“

“Hey! What’s going on?!” Taeyeon shouted, walking over. The other three looked at each other before pointing accusing fingers at the younger two. “They popped our ball, Miss! We asked for it but he went ahead and popped it!” they began crying.

Youngjae shook his head. “No! No! No! Bad Hyungs made Kyung-hyung pick it up and bullied him and shoved him and-and-and he accidently popped it!” he tried to explain, using the word ‘and’ over. He quickly stepped to Kyungsoo’s side and pointed at the mud smears. “See, Miss Taeyeon?! See?!” He shrieked, obviously very worried about what would happen to Kyungsoo.

Taeyeon looked at the smears before looking at the three boys who were shooting glares at Youngjae. “You three, no dessert for you for a week.” She said, firmly. “But-!” “We didn’t-““That’s not-“They began but stopped once they saw Taeyeon raise her eyebrows. “Yes Ma’am.” They muttered.

“And for you Kyungsoo… You’ll be sending a note to Miss Tiffany for popping her ball, understand?” she asked, looking at Kyungsoo. Youngjae stomped his foot. “Miss! Kyungso-“

“Yes, Ma’am.” Kyungsoo quickly answered, shutting Youngjae up.

He could see the smaller boy, look at him surprised. “Hyung.” He looked at Taeyeon who looked at him, concerned. “Let’s play on the swings, Youngjae.” The older one quickly said, dragging the other boy off from the scene. As he did that, he overheard Taeyeon and the bullies talking about their punishment.

Nothing but a sigh fell through his lips. He was the orphan.

“Hyung, hyung! Sleep with me!” Youngjae squealed as he hopped on the bed, with is fluffy pink onesie.” Kyungsoo could only stare at the boy in front of him. “Why do you have a pink onesie on, Youngjae-ah?” he asked. Youngjae smiled, with a sparkle in his eyes. “Well, I thought it were cute!”

“Youngjae… but aren’t those the girls?”

“So?! They took my underwear and showed every other girl in the whole building!”

“Why didn’t you tell Miss?!”

“Because I was embarrassed!!”

Kyungsoo smacked his forehead, shaking his head. Youngjae was innocent but maybe a bit too innocent. He walked over to his assigned bed, before feeling tiny hands hold his hand. “Sleep with me!” Youngjae pouted. “You might pee on me!”

No I won’t! I’m a big boy!” Youngjae patted his chest, as if showing how much he’s grown. Kyungsoo stared with his wide eyes, not believing him. “Your bed is too ugly anyways,” he began, causing Youngjae to stomp his foot in anger before finishing off, “Sleep on mine.”

As soon as he said that, a squeal was left through the other one’s lips. He watched the other one climb on the bed, hopping on it. “Don’t make a mess! Let me get in!” He hissed, quickly trying to calm the other one. “Ok! OK! Ok!” Youngjae smiled as he patted the spot beside him which Kyungsoo soon accompanied.

“Now, go to bed,” Kyungsoo muttered as he pulled the covers over their tiny bodies. “Alright! Night hyung!” he heard the younger one say as he turned to the lamp on the bed drawer, turning it off. The room was now fully dark.

‘I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I’m sorry!’

Kyungsoo opened his eyes to see pure darkness. “Why’s it so dark? Who shut the curtains?” he whispered. He turned to Youngjae, who was sleeping beside him. But the thing was… Youngjae wasn’t. He blinked as he patted to the spot beside him to see it was cold, hard floor. “H-Huh? What’s going on?” he questioned as he tried to get up but couldn’t. But there was the sound of chains along with heavy weight on his arms and wrists.

He gazed down trying to see but failed to see anything. He sighed as he began to move. He didn’t get more than 2 feet because then he was held back. He grunted as he tried to move but couldn’t. “What is holding me back?!” he grumbled as he finally gave up and walked back, trying to feel what was responsible.

Tiny fingers waved around the place trying to feel, and search. ‘If only there was some light’, he thought. He jumped as he touched something, smooth but firm. He stood still for a while until he felt it again but knowing well now what it was.

A wall…

“Huh… I could’ve guessed that without feeling this thing here.” He muttered, rubbing the nape of his neck. Kyungsoo turned around, looking around for a small light source, anything. Nothing. Everything was just black. Black and quie-

He jumped as he heard loud noises coming in. ‘What’s going on?’ he thought, now looking at the direction where it came from. He wanted to move forward but halted as he saw the room filled with light and the door opened.

In front of him, a young woman stood. Her face was streamed with tears as she rushed to him. “Xingie...” she whispered as he hugged him. ‘Xingie?’ Kyungsoo thought as he looked up to her. “PanPan?” he suddenly said. ‘Woah! How do I know her name?!’ he thought as he grow even more confused.

“You need to run, now. Leave this place and never look back.” She whispered as she began to unlock… shackles. He had shackles on him this whole time. Kyungsoo stared at the shackled in shock. What was this place for them to put him- or ‘Xingie’ in shackles?

“I don’t want to leave you…” he felt himself say, his voice cracking. PanPan brought his face to her. “You have to… Or else they’ll hurt you even more.” She whispered, her own voice cracking. Kyungsoo sniffled as he felt his heart being torn. He hugged her greatly, sobbing. “I-I love you, PanPan.” He whispered.

‘Why… What… I’m so confused!’ Kyungsoo yelled in his mind as PanPan held him close.

“I love you too, Yixing.” She whispered, kissing his forehead. “Now go! Go before they see!” She said with a smile.

Kyungsoo stared at her for a bit before moving to get up. He shook his head. ‘No… Stop! Don’t go!’ he was screaming at himself as he saw himself run through the doors. ‘Stop it! You need to go to her!’ he cried. He could feel tears stream down his face as he ran.

These emotions… exactly who was he?

Gunshots were everywhere, screams were bouncing off the walls and sounds of boots were coming. “W-What is happening?!” He whispered as he ran down this halls that seemed to have gone on forever.

Just as he could think he felt a hand yank his arm. “I’ve caught #5, sir!” a voice yelled from above. ‘#5?’ Kyungsoo looked at the man above who wore an all-black suit and helmet.” “Let me go, please!” he shouted, struggling free. The man didn’t budge.

“Why are you out of your cell?” a voice that sent shivers down his spine ask. He stopped as he turned to meet eyes with another. “M-Mister Ray…” he heard himself say. “I-I want to go back home.” He finally said, his voice trembling.

‘What is going on? Why am I trembling? Who is this man?’ he thought as he waited for the man to say something.

For some reason, his whole body went cold as he saw the man stare down at him. Then it happened. He was flying to the wall, making pretty hard contact with it. “A-Ah….” He whimpered, holding his left cheek. He was hit on the spot.

“Go home? GO HOME?! YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO YOU MOTHER WHO BETRAYED YOU?!” Ray yelled grabbing a hold his hair. “M-My mommy never betrayed me! S-S-She loves me! Y-you lie to her!” Kyungsoo fought back, his tears streaming down his face.

It seemed to be the wrong move because he was now being beaten to death. He felt a pause for a bit until he felt small stinging hits hit the back of his leg. He could hear Ray curse from above as he hit him. He could feel some old wounds reopen and- Old wounds….

So this wasn’t the first… It’s happened before to this kid, whoever he was….

Kyungsoo shielded himself as he cried inside his own little ball. After a few more, Ray stopped. He heard snapping of fingers and voice coming. He widen his eyes as he saw PanPan come into view, her face bloodied and being dragged by two other guards.

“You thought I wouldn’t know what you were up to? Ever since you took him away for a week three years ago, I knew… I knew you were a betrayer.” He heard Ray growl. PanPan weakly looked up. “You think hurting and abusing a kid is the way to find out more?!” She spat out.

“PanPan…” Kyungsoo cried softly, before Ray began whipping him again. “Shut up!”

“Leave him alone!” PanPan shouted, struggling against the two that held her back. Ray looked back at her now. “You think you could still tell me what to do?” he asked. Kyungsoo watched as the two stared down.

It wasn’t very long until PanPan spit on the other. “Go to hell.” She whispered with all the spit there was. Ray looked at her disgusted. “Why don’t you tell me how it goes?” he whispered as he pulled out a gun. “No! Please no!” Kyungsoo yelled, crying as he watched him put the gun on set.

“X-Xingie…” PanPan whispered as she looked at the boy. She smiled gently, despite the blood and her fate. Why… Why was she smiling?

A gunshot was fired. Everything around him was static. Everything around him was nothing. Nothing as he watched the bullet pierce through her chest.

Kyungsoo sobbed as he sat there, watching her fall. He crawled over to her, to see her shaking. ‘Why… Why…’ he whispered. PanPan trembled as she looked at him, bringing her hand to his face. He couldn’t hear anything as he watched move to voice herself. He then watched the life get taken out of her eyes. He felt himself get dragged by someone who had a strong hold on his wrist. “N-No! No! Leave me alone! No!!!” He screamed as he watched the other two guards drag the lifeless body…

“NO!” Kyungsoo screamed as he sat up to meet with Youngjae, who gasped. “Hyung! Are you okay?!” he heard the younger one question.

It was bright and Youngjae was out of the onesie he had on for the night. It must’ve been morning already, crawling onto the afternoon.

Kyungsoo stared at Youngjae, not saying anything for a while. “I-I had a bad dream…. It was really bad. I mean it-“ .he began before the two heard a loud clap of thunder. “Woah! That was loud!” Youngjae shouted as he ran to the windows. Thunder? Was it going to rain? The older one questioned as he stepped out of his bed.

“Oh! Look! We have guests!” Youngjae shouted as Kyungsoo got ready.

“Cool. I guess.” He responded as he tied his tennis shoes together. “I think they might adopt! They have a boy with them too!” he heard the younger claim. “Come on! I’m hungry!” Kyungsoo complained, dragging the younger one away from the window. “It looked a bit stormy, Hyung! I think it’ll rain!” Youngjae began his daily talk.

“Ahhhh that’s nice. “He responded, listening to the nonsense Youngjae began starting with Thor, the Thunder God or whoever he was. He kept in thought about that dream. Who was he? He definitely not Do Kyungsoo… He was someone who went by Xingie… or in horrible terms… #5… and that girl… She was shot by-

“Hyung! Look!” Youngjae pointed up front.

Kyungsoo looked up and froze cold still.

It was Ray. The man who beat him in his dreams.

“Oh, Kyungsoo! Mister Ray would like to adopt you!” Taeyeon smiled as she noticed the boys at the stairs. “Hyung! You’re getting adopted!!” Youngjae congratulated as he bounced beside him. Kyungsoo watched as the said man turned to look at him. He felt his spine shiver as they shared eye contact that held for a while. He looked down at the boy who stood beside the man. The boy looked… nervous.

“I-I don’t want to get adopte,” Kyungsoo said, his fists balling up. Taeyeon and Youngjae looked at him, a bit taken back. “Why not? You always want-““I SAID I DON’T WANT TO!!!” Kyungsoo yelled at Taeyeon, his eyes holding fear.

Taeyeon blinked, her eyebrows furrowing. “Kyungsoo-ah…. “She said softly. Then Ray began. “Why not? I have a lovely home,” Lies, “a wonderful bunch,” more lies, “and I’ll treat you very well.” He’s a lie.

“Shut up, you horrible freak.” Kyungsoo spat, his eyes now flaring. Youngjae turned to his hyung, surprised. “Hyung! You said the ‘s’ word!” he whispered. Kyungsoo glared coldly at the man before him who also looked a bit taken back.

“Well… I suppose there’s no other way…. Jongdae.” Ray snapped his fingers at the boy beside him. The boy bowed his head before quickly running up the stairs. “H-Hey! What are you-“Taeyeon started until Ray grabbed a part of her neck that made her fall slump into his arms.

Youngjae screamed as he saw Jongdae tackle Kyungsoo to the ground. “Get off me!” Kyungsoo screamed as kicked the boy off. Jongdae literally flew towards a wall before he settled himself against before bouncing off of it towards Kyungsoo.

Kyungsoo growled as he grabbed the flying boy and threw him to Ray who caught him. “What are you doing?! Get him!” he saw Ray push the boy. “Y-Yes sir.” Jongdae whispered. Kyungsoo looked at Youngjae who looked to frightened to say anything.

He grabbed the young boy by the arms. “Run. Tell Miss Tiffany to call the cops or something! But run!” he whispered. “H-Hyung but you’ll-““I’ll come back! I promise! Just go! Now!” he shouted, pushing the eight-year old away.

Youngjae sniffled as he began to cry. “Alright Hyung! I’ll be back!” He sobbed as he began to run to the other side of the house where all the others seemed to have been at.

Kyungsoo looked towards Jongdae who now had tackled him down the stairs. He growled as he grabbed Jongdae by the neck when Jongdae struggled to say something. “L-Luhan… I got him.” He whispered.

Puzzled, the orphan loosened his grip. “What-“‘Phew! That was hard.’ A voice muttered. “W-What is this?!” he shouted before Jongdae clamped a hand over his mouth. “Shut up!” He hissed. He looked over at Ray who was now looking at him. “I-I got him-“

Kyungsoo widen his eyes and he pushed Jongdae away. “Get away!” Jongdae widen his eyes as he looked back at him. ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa! Calm down! We’re trying to help you! If you don’t allow them to take you away then the orphanage is good as ashes.’ The voice, He’s guessing is Luhan, shouted.

It didn’t make any sense. What did he mean by that? He looked at Jongdae who looked at him with pleading eyes as he came closer to him. “Listen, I’ll explain it all. Just let Jongdae take you away.” Luhan said calmly. Kyungsoo stood a bit unsure. ‘What if he was walking straight into a trap? What if-‘

‘This isn’t a trap, Do Kyungsoo! I promise! We all want out of this hell cage, but we need your strength for it to happen!’ Luhan snapped, causing Kyungsoo to jump. Kyungsoo looked at Jongdae with an expression as if saying ‘He can read minds’. Jongdae nodded, sighing as if responding ‘sadly’.

“Fine… Take me away.” Kyungsoo shouted at Ray. “I’m guessing you already got men all around.” Ray looked at him with a smirk. “Very intelligent. You guessed right.” He said as he came to the boy. Jongdae stepped aside for Ray to handcuff him. He gave a glance to the captured boy, adding a nod.

Kyungsoo nodded back as he allowed for Ray to take him away. He shuffled his feet as he was walked away from the orphanage. He hung his head low, still thinking. ‘I should’ve fought…’ Luhan’s voice spoke up again. ‘Hey, don’t worry. If you can help break us free, we promise to help you in every way we can!’ Kyungsoo trembled. ‘Why me?! Why-‘

‘Because with your strength we can bring down this hell! We can make sure no one else, I mean NO ONE ELSE, comes here and face what they’re putting us under! Even if we did fight, they will do anything to take us away! Zitao ran away from home and got caught in the woods! Baek and Jongdae went longer but was caught eventually! Xiumin was forced out of his home! They burned down Chanyeol’s home and shot his two little brothers! They’ll do anything!’

Kyungsoo stayed quiet as he heard of what they did to the previous kids. ‘And that boy?’ He asked. Luhan stayed quiet for a bit. ‘What boy? ‘He heard him ask. His tone was nervous and sound as if he expected him to say something.

‘Xingie… The boy who was in my dream… I was him! I experienced his pain in there! He watched someone die in front of his eyes!’ he screamed at Luhan as he looked over at Jongdae who was watching him from the side. ‘Ah… So you do mean him… Wait, Xingie? That’s his name?’ Kyungsoo nodded. ‘The girl called him that… I re-‘

A loud sound of lightning cracked as he was speaking mentally. This made Kyungsoo turn around. He froze as he saw the Orphanage… in flames. “N-No! What are you doing?!” He screamed, now running towards the orphanage he could hear screams at. “Jongdae!” he heard Luhan yell.

Jongdae was on the ground, horrified. “I-I didn’t! I swear, I didn’t mean to! “He whispered, guilt written over his face. He looked down at his hands and back at Kyungsoo who was frozen soild.

“You won’t be seeing them… anymore.” Ray muttered from behind. The boys looked behind to see he held a small black box. On the box were 12 buttons. 12 buttons with different symbols.

“Y-You made me do it! You said I wouldn’t kill anyone!! “Jongdae screamed as he got up. He ran to Ray until Ray grabbed by his hair and threw him aside. “They had to go! All of them!” he growled. Kyungsoo looked at him with full of spite. He looked back to see a tiny figure running. “Hyung!! Hyung!!”

Youngjae…

“Youngjae!” He yelled as he ran towards him. He could hear Ray yelling something in the background but it didn't matter to him. He could see Youngjae burst into tears. “Hyung! Everyone’s still inside!” he heard the young boy sob. Kyungsoo held his hand. “I’m so sorry, Youngjae. I should’ve fought.” He whispered.

“Kyungsoo! They’re coming!” Luhan yelled.

Kyungsoo turned in time to feel the of a gun hit his side. “Hyung!” Youngjae’s voice screamed.

He tried to lift his eyelids to see. The world around him was as slow as a snail. He could feel himself getting dragged away, as if he was a rag doll. He could only hear the sound of his heart and breaths. His vision was blurred. But he could see was Youngjae being surrounded by men. His little screams pireced the air. He could see one of them lift him up. “S-Stop… Stop it…” he whispered as he tried to see what they were doing to the boy.

All he knew was Youngjae’s body was dropped like a bag of rice… Was he dead? Was he alive? What was it? Kyungsoo didn’t know. He could see someone walking past him. They stopped before looking at him. He could see only their lips. His voice poured out of them as Kyungsoo watched. He felt himself go slump against the person who carried him away. Away from his home.

‘Don’t worry… I’ll take care of him.’

Who are you?

He was the orphan…
