Foreword

Prologue.

"There's no easy way for me to ask this question, so I'll just be blunt about it." Dahyun looked up at Vernon with a curious expression spread on her face. What exactly could Vernon say to her this early in the morning?

The school's hallways were, for the most part, empty, save for a few athletes who had morning practice that day. Dahyun was sure that most of the faculty wasn't even here yet. The only reason she came early was because she had no choice. Her mother was her ride to school and because her mother had been called into the work, Dahyun had no choice but to get dropped off an hour before the first bell.

She wasn't expecting any company, but when she had closed the door of her locker to see Vernon there with a small smile on his face telling her they needed to talk, she couldn't help but wonder what exactly it was that he wanted to talk to her about.

The way he was looking at her, with an empty smile on his lips. The way he couldn't look in her eyes, hesitantly opening his mouth only to close it back up. There was something definitely wrong.

"Just spit it out." Dahyun joked, looking at the handsome boy in front of her.

"Someone said that you liked me." Dahyun's whole body froze. She could feel the blood slowly rushing to her face. How exactly should she react to this information he had given her. Had it been anybody else, she would have easily laughed it off, and be completely unfazed by the question. But it was Vernon who was asking her. The boy who was currently dating her best friend. The boy whom she had a crush on since first year.

If she answered truthly and  admitted to liking him, it would just leave for an awkward situation for all parties invloved. There was no way Somi would still want to be friends with her. And Vernon would never talk to her as well.

"I know it's a weird question to ask, but it's just something that I have to confirm myself. So, do you...like me?"

Dahyun felt as if her whole body was going into shook. had dried up, making it hard for her to even formulate a single word. Her mind went into overdrive, going through files and files of excuses that she could possibly use to save herself.

"Um...I...what?" Dahyun mentally slapped herself, while trying her best to look like that she wasn't having a mental breakdown on the inside. "I do like you." She stated very slowly. "But, like as a friend."

Dahyun watched as a look of relief washed over Vernon's face. She didn't know why, but the satisfied look that he gave her when she said she didn't like it, hurt.

"In fact, I didn't want to tell anybody else because it's fairly new but, I'm dating someone." Once the words left her lips, she wanted to hide herself in a hole and never come out. She should have kept her reasoning short and simple, but she just had keep on talking.

"Oh really? Who?"

Dahyun opened , willing her voice to not fail her. Then out of the corner of her eye, she saw him, walking down the hallway towards them.

Her mind somehow highjacks her rational thinking, because the next words that she uttered surprise both her and Vernon. "Jeon Jungkook."
