Happy Pill

Description

"I can't be happy all the time!"

I'd never noticed but my parents' eyes were dull, their lackluster smiles not moving in the slightest.

Passerby ambled on by without a glance.  Everything was fine. Everything was okay. Mind your own business. That was the mantra and no one questioned it.

"Someone didn't have enough happy pills!"  mother chirped.

Across the country, in certain cities, people are waking up.

An OK Corp. insider is slowly dismantling the mass stupor citizens have been subjected to. And this is a major problem for the powers that be. When everyone is happy, everyone is easier to control.

---

"Yesterday, everything was fine. today, I can feel the blood seething through my veins."

Something was off. Instead of the usual calm and occasional twinge in her eye Myka felt.... discontent. The fact that she felt anything at all was the problem. Wait, since when was anything considered a problem? Everything was fine, just fine. Instead of smoothing over her nerves, the mantra only brought on a head-jarring wave of adrenaline --- as if she had been too still for too long.

Quick question - is it pronounced Myka as in Micah or as in Mee-kah?
