Forever Was Yesterday

Description

It was supposed to be the happiest day of his life but he couldn't remember any of it

Foreword

“Yoongi…”

The name bounced through every cell in his body shooting at every nerve until he was numb and the only thing he could feel was the fire that was igniting in his stomach creating an uncontrollable flame of rage shout up his body. Hoseok was awake after months of being in a coma, wide eyed and staring directly at Jimin with a lost and vacant expression settling on his face until his vision found Yoongi who was stood by the door hovering between leaving and entering the room.

“Yoongi who’s this?”

Jimin backed away from the hospital bed slowly looking at Yoongi with his lip trembling in shock and surprise. They had been briefed by the doctor that Hoseok was likely to come down with temporary amnesia that could be permanent, this had been told to them while Hoseok was still in a coma but none of them expected Hoseok to forget his newly wedded husband who was now crying silently.

“Hoseok….this is Jimin your husband remember?”

Hoseok glanced at Jimin tilting his head to the side in confusion before shaking his head making a strangled sob leave Jimin’s mouth as he attempted to stand but his legs gave way and he was back sitting in the chair. By the time Jimin was trying to leave Hoseok had gripped Jimin tightly on the wrist preventing him from moving.

“No nothing. Yoongi-”

Yoongi who was yet to say much gave Jimin a sympathetic look as Jimin walked past as if anyone could ever understand what he was going through. Jimin glared at him, he knew that Yoongi was in love with his husband and until now he had never thought that it would ever be reciprocated but Hoseok apparently thinks that Yoongi is more memorable than Jimin. In the corridor Jimin was met with expectant glances from Seokjin and Namjoon he looked between them both and suddenly the lump in had grown and he could no longer hold back the burning tears that were sliding down his face as he collapsed into Seokjin’s arms.

“Jiminie what’s wrong? Hobi’s awake right?”

Seokjin’s hands ran through his hair calming the fire in his stomach so now that it was a calm blue flame and his breathes returned to normal which they hadn’t done since Hoseok had awoken. Jimin couldn’t look at either of them so he returned to Seokjin’s shoulder where he could see no one and feel no one’s judging glance.

“Yeah..he’s awake...but he doesn’t know who I am…”

At this Namjoon stood up looking back down at Jimin before entering Hoseok’s hospital room leaving Seokjin and Jimin alone in an almost empty hallway. Seokjin wiped away his tears that were still falling down Jimin’s face as he turned to the doctor repeating everything Jimin had just said.

“Jimin he will one day. No one can forget someone like you. You know how funny things like this work. We have to be strong and we are all here to help. You're not on your own.”

The words would have seemed comforting or calming to anyone else but to Jimin they seemed condescending. Of course he was on his own, Hoseok remembered every other person on this planet except for him. Jimin was slowly falling apart at the seams and his heart was beating uncontrollably fast so he backed away from his friends not wanting to hurt them.

“I am on my own!! He remembers everyone except me!! Me……”

Jimin’s voice cracked towards the end, his blinding rage turning into a depressed sense of sadness washing over him in deadly waves that sent him backwards into a chair, tears streaming down his face as he muttered apologies for snapping at him. As, he looked up his blurred vision found Yoongi who had moved out of the hospital room minutes earlier.

“Jimin I know you probably won’t believe me but I am going to do everything in my power to help Hoseok remember you. You two are meant to be together and the world is just throwing us a cruel joke. “

Jimin let out a shaky laugh reaching out for Yoongi, taking his hand into his smaller one brushing his fingers along the pale skin. Yoongi sat down next to Jimin silently, he looked down at the floor before meeting Jimin’s gaze again.

“He wants to see you Jimin.”

Yoongi whispered into thin air and Jimin was almost certain that he had heard him wrong until Namjoon exited the room looking at Jimin expectantly with a small hint of sadness as if someone understood his pain. Jimin stood up slowly trying to make sure that his friends couldn’t see the fear in his eyes or the shake in his limbs and made his way into the hospital room looking down at the floor when he entered.

“Will you sit please?”

Jimin nodded at Hoseok’s words sitting in a chair next to the bed where he had left his jacket and phone. He took a deep breath in and then looked up to see Hoseok looking at him thoughtfully and carefully as if he was examining him for a photoshoot or potential mate not the usual loving glance that he got from Hoseok.

“I remember your name if that helps. Your face and your touch is familiar, I can’t put my finger on why I could forget you. Yoongi told me how in love we were so I want to say I’m sorry Jimin I really am. “

Hoseok was still looking at him in a way Jimin didn’t like, it seemed to send shivers down his spine and all he could do was look away before he started crying again.

“It’s not your fault Hoseok...sorry I never called you that…. I just wish I had my husband back not my husband who can’t remember me.”

Hoseok nodded slowly looking out of the window trying so hard to find anything that linked him with the man sitting in the chair next to him but his brain remained blank until suddenly a picture formed in the back of his mind and before he could stop himself the words slipped out.

“I’m not the same man you married Jimin. I don’t even know who you are. Did we go to school together?”

Hoseok closed quickly grabbing onto Jimin’s jacket preventing him from moving so that he could see that Hoseok didn’t mean it. He couldn’t bare to see the beautiful man with the small hands and gorgeous eyes cry again and if this was really his husband then he must do something.

“I’m leaving Hoseok. Yoongi said he would bring you home. Well to my house anyway as you kindly put it you're not my husband. My husband would be better off dead.”

At this Hoseok let go of Jimin watching him leave with a new sense of anger that was now directed towards Hoseok. Hoseok sighed looking down at the blanket throwing across him as he pulled at the threads until a knock on his door sounded and he was on his way to his house a week later with Yoongi next to him on the phone to one of his other friends Taehyung who was apparently in Paris.

As they rounded the corner Hoseok peered out at the street with the perfect line of trees, the freshly cut green grass and all the houses built out of the same brick that seemed to be a sandy colour. The neighbourhood looked friendly enough as he watched kids playing and adults waving at each other across the street. But nothing looked familiar, not even when they pulled up to his house he was still lost and nothing from the number to the colour of the front door looked like anywhere he would live. The door opened Jimin came out followed by his mother who helped him out of the car and into the house fussing over him at every turn. He stopped in the hallway picking up photos trying desperately to remember anything but the more he tried the more he wanted to give it all up.

“Hoseok I need to apologise for the things I said to you. I can’t say that I didn’t mean it because I did. But I’m sorry.” Jimin said what he wanted to say and moved through the house effortlessly leaving Hoseok with Yoongi who took him upstairs to the guest room dropping his stuff on the floor. Hoseok looked towards Yoongi and the feelings that lay in his stomach were free to fly at the sight of the smaller male. Before he knew what he was doing Hoseok leant forward to kiss Yoongi until Yoongi pushed him back almost disgusted at what he was doing but there was a sense of his want too.

“You’re married Hoseok you can’t-”

Hoseok glared at him pushing himself away from Yoongi as a pain tore through his head forcing him to sit down on the bed grabbing a hold of his forehead. Almost as if he had forgotten what had just happened Yoongi flew to his side holding him until the pain disappeared almost hating himself as the word spilled out of .

“Not if I can't remember.”

Hoseok whispered watching as Yoongi jumped back away from him as if someone holding Hoseok was the cause of his unable to remember anything to do with Jimin his so called husband.

“Yoongi hyung and….Hoseok tea’s ready.”

Jimin called from the doorway not commenting if he had heard anything else or the fact that both him and Yoongi were acting strange for all he did was smile and walk away. Yoongi followed moments later sighing deeply not turning around to look back at Hoseok already feeling the weight of his promises. He was surprised when he came downstairs to see Namjoon who was whispering with Hoseok’s mother who was staying here to help them look after her son so Yoongi moved past them and walked over to Jimin who was to overly concentrated on setting the table for the second time that evening.

“What’s Joonie doing here?”

Yoongi asked getting straight to the point as right now he wanted to be anywhere else than where he was right now talking to Jimin whom he had promised to help. Jimin looked up first at Yoongi then at Namjoon as if he had just realised he was here.

“Joonie is offering help apparently the doctor said that if we took Hoseok to places where he has been then he may remember. So Joonie was offering his hand which is nice and hopefully he won’t try to kiss him as that’s not very helpful right?”

Jimin’s voice was laced with pain but the whole statement was wrapped up in a package of sass and sarcasm as he looked towards Yoongi with those big beautiful eyes that had Yoongi tripping over excuses in his head.

“Jimin I’m sorry. He tried to kiss-”

“No why should you be sorry. It’s not as if he even knows who I am.”

Jimin snapped back placing the glasses on the table with a force that Yoongi didn’t know he had. The glare on his face was enough to make Yoongi shut straight up looking down at the floor with a new sense of guilt.

“You know what? I’m done trying to think straight. My husband doesn’t care about me anymore and my best friend is more caught up in trying to steal him. Joonie and Jin hyung look at me like I’m pathetic child that needs help. And then my parents disowned me a couple of days ago when I told them I wasn’t leaving Hoseok. Taehyung and Jungkook are in bloody Paris having a whale of a time while I’m drowning in everything. “

Jimin was now crying the glass that was previously in his hand was now smashed on the floor cutting his finger which made Jimin more upset. Yoongi froze he had never seen Jimin like this and there was no one else around as Namjoon was getting shown out of the house so he had to do something but his brain still hadn’t caught up with his body. Then out of nowhere Hoseok pushed past him picking Jimin off the floor into his arms holding him until the tears stopped flowing and when he did stop Hoseok took his finger wrapping it up in a bandage kissing it betters.

“I’m sorry Jiminie. This is all my mess and I need to fix it.”

Jimin let out a soft laugh his fingers falling from Hoseok’s neck down to his lap where his eyes stayed and suddenly Yoongi felt as if he was intruding on something special.

“You’ll remember me one day. I have something for you. We made it in case something like this happened, it might help if you want it.”

Jimin commented and suddenly they were both leaving to go back upstairs where a box awaited them. Yoongi grabbed his coat from the door shoving his shoes back onto his feet knowing when he had outstayed his welcome until he heard a sob and suddenly he was running back upstairs.

“Jiminie’s what's wrong?”

“Hoseok took the box and then left saying that he didn’t need my help and I guess I woke up from my dream that everything was okay.”

Yoongi shook his head sighing inwardly looking to where Hoseok was sleeping but the door remained closed. Suddenly a thought came to him and he sat down next to Jimin on the floor on the master suite.

“Jiminie come away with me. Let me take you away on a break and let Joonie work his magic. You’ll get to upset if you stay here and that might affect everything. You never know Hoseok might remember you by the time we get back.”

Yoongi paused to look at Jimin who was staring straight back at him and suddenly they realised how close they were. Jimin who seemed to give up sank and fell against Yoongi with a sigh looking towards the floor and they stayed like that for a while until Jimin’s phone rang and he stood up looking back at Yoongi before replying.

“Give me two days and then I’ll come with you.”

Jimin left Yoongi sitting on the floor with a new sense of commitment and protection which filled him up with a strange warmth which is where Hoseok found him moments later.

Jimin walked into the bathroom closing the door trying to breathe normally so that Taehyung on the other end of the phone wouldn’t question anything although Jimin was questioning everything.

“Hey Tae. What’s up?”

“How come you didn’t tell me?”

The question seem to hang in the air for the longest time ever until Jimin coughed trying to hold back the lump that was in .

“I didn’t want you to worry. You're supposed to be having a good time…”

“But oh Jiminie this is something you tell your bestie. You okay?”

“No I don’t think I am. Everything has caught up with me and I don’t know what to do anymore.”

The silence that followed was highly uncomfortable making Jimin shiver which made the phone that was previously in his hand fall to the floor creating a clatter that echoed around the room, it was followed by a shout from Yoongi that Jimin ignored as he picked up his phone again.

“Jiminie you there? Do you want me and Kookie to come back and help? Cause I’ll book the next flight..”

“No! I em, I have too many people helping already I… well feel like I’m suffocating in help. Tae you’re helping by being where you are. Your happiness is all the help I need.”

“If you're sure. Call me tomorrow please?”

All Jimin could do was hang up he couldn’t promise anyone anything at the moment as he was far too unstable to say that his promises meant anything to anyone. Jimin left the bathroom and found his way to the roof terrace looking up at the stars that burned brightly in the dark. Even though, they were dead there glow still burned bright; Even though Jimin was dying inside his smile still light up a thousand hearts.

The morning came slowly as Jimin rolled over in the empty bed letting the light hit him slowly enjoying the peace and quiet that came with the morning until a knock sounded at his door and he was brutally forced out of bed to let the person in. Yoongi froze as the door opened his hand still locked into a fist that was about to knock again not expecting Jimin to open it as quickly. He forced himself to look anywhere but Jimin who stood there tiredly wiping his eyes shirtless and with the most perfect bed hair ever.

“Jiminie you have therapy this morning remember?”

Jimin groaned walking back into his room and into his closet leaving the door wide open which Yoongi took as an invitation to come in closing the door behind him. Jimin threw on random pieces of clothing not caring that it didn’t match moving from the closet to the bathroom where he fixed his hair and brushed his teeth before turning back to Yoongi who was sitting on the bed whistling softly.

“Will you come with me Gi hyung?”

Yoongi looked up startled and surprised at the question as he had never thought that Jimin would want him to come anywhere with him. But he nodded hiding his surprise at the question which made an amazing smile appear on Jimin’s face.

“Let’s go then will you take me for lunch afterwards?”

Hoseok who was standing at the top of the stairs listening to this conversation suddenly felt a pang of jealously. It should be him taken Jimin to therapy and lunch not Yoongi or he should at least be included in their plans.

“Anything you want Jiminie anything and I’ll give it to you.”

“Thanks Gi you’re the best.”

Hoseok sank to the floor sitting on the top stair of his house that was suddenly empty and quiet. Not something he was accustomed to the feeling of loneliness ripped through every cell in his body reaching his every nerve as he began crying. Hoseok hated all of this, not remembering Jimin but still being in love with him and then falling for Yoongi who is his best friend. Then them both leaving together this morning all of this creating a massive hole inside of his heart.

“Hoseok...you home?”

A voice suddenly echoed through the empty house Hoseok felt a leap of joy surge through him as his breathing leveled and the tears stopped falling. Namjoon looked up the stairs at him almost pitiful before settling down next to him wrapping Hoseok up in his arms who settled their liking the feeling of contentment.

“Joon will you take me to where I first met Jimin? I heard it might help with memory loss.”

Namjoon nodded not wanting to say that that had been the plan all along that he and Seokjin were already planning to take him there. Instead, he stood up offering a hand to Hoseok who took it slowly and they both left on a mission to help Hoseok any way possible.

Jimin and Yoongi arrived back last both giddy and laughing loudly as Yoongi snorted his drink up his nose causing him to cough repeatedly with Jimin trying to help but failing miserably. Hoseok who was sat in the living room looked up from his book glaring at them both before pushing past them into the kitchen where Seokjin was making lunch. He didn’t notice however that Jimin had abandoned his attempts to save Yoongi to follow Hoseok sensing his mood change.

“Hoseok you okay?”

Jimin said far to cautiously for Hoseok’s liking as if somehow asking that would cause either one of them to break into a million pieces. He turned to Jimin looking at him intently before looking back down at his book.

“We met in high school didn’t we? You used to call me Hobi and follow me around for days until you gathered up the courage to talk to me after Tae pushed you to. Physically as well you managed to spill your entire drink down my front. I think I fell in love with you then and your clumsy feet.”

Jimin was gaping at him wide mouth and everything and suddenly Hoseok was aware of what had just came out of , slowly a hand came up covering with a small sheepish smile. What he was not expecting however was Jimin to throw his arms around him in a big hug until he couldn’t breathe but of course that is what Jimin did.

“You remember that? Or did someone tell you that?”

Hoseok looked up at Jimin who had pulled away from the embrace and was now biting nervously on his lip looking from Hoseok to Seokjin who was busy trying to ignore them but was failing miserably in that area. Hoseok reached out to trail his hand down Jimin’s face before kissing him softly and slowly which made Yoongi and Namjoon gasp when they entered the kitchen.

“I remembered. That’s all mind. I haven’t remembered the rest but I need time Jiminie. Can you give me time?”

Jimin nodded too shell shocked to say anything else stepping back away from Hoseok and into Namjoon who was trying to burn the kitchen down or in Namjoon terms helping Seokjin make dinner. He groaned and Jimin yelped loudly apologizing over and over again which was not helped in the slightest by Hoseok and Yoongi laughing their faces off.

“Not helpful guys. Gi hyung will you help me a moment?”

Jimin asked as he took the table setting equipment from Seokjin and moved out of the kitchen to the dining room followed by a very confused Yoongi who shrugged at an annoyed looking Hoseok.

“Yoongi you promised to take me away if it gets too much. And I now know that Hoseok is mending well you know what I mean. It's just he needs time without the reminder of me and what he still needs to remember. He can’t be over whelmed. So will you take me away after breakfast tomorrow?”

Yoongi had never expected Jimin to agree to come with him on this trip but now he was here with Jimin who wanted to go away with him he suddenly had no idea of how he was supposed to act or say.

“Of course Jiminie I promised you anything”

The next day wasn’t suppose to be anything out of the ordinary a usual day at work followed by the regular visits to friends (Hobi in this case) to help and support each other. But the day started out completely different then what a Monday would for one Yoongi wasn’t at work and secondly he had Jimin in his car next to him. They still however hadn’t made it off the drive of his house as Jimin kept on stopping the vehicle to get his breath back. Then after 5 minutes of sitting there Jimin finally gave the signal to move Yoongi never turned back no matter what Jimin was saying as well he had promised this.

“Jimin we have to keep moving you said that you wanted this.”

They had reached a small country road just of the capital city that lead to a small winter lodge that Yoongi owned the surrounding forest was full of green luscious trees that filled the area with chirping noises from the birds and the familiar sound of the wind rustling through the leaves. Jimin had quieted down in the last half an hour so that now all he could hear was his small soft snores that made his chest rise and fall perfectly in sync. Yoongi stopped the car reaching over to unbuckle Jimin without waking him which seemed to be rather more difficult than expected. He left the car going to open the door before walking back to see Jimin awake but half asleep. Yoongi smiled opening his door like a gentleman watching Jimin take in the scenery through his tired sleepy brown eyes he could almost see it through Jimin’s eyes as if the beauty of this place was all new to him.

“Its beautiful Gi hyung thanks for taking me here.”

Jimin let out a beautiful tinkling little laugh that echoed through the trees as Yoongi picked him up helping him into the lodge with a large smile on his face. Yoongi dropped Jimin on the couch leaving him there laughing happily before taking all the bags inside.

Meanwhile back home Hoseok was just venturing down the stairs wondering why the house was so strangely quiet so far nothing seemed out of the ordinary but as soon as he walked into the master bedroom he noticed the clothes all over the floor and the suitcase that was missing from where it was yesterday. He backed out of the room suddenly panicking about everything and then in his line of vision was a small white piece of paper that looked completely out of place. Hoseok picked it up and began reading the familiar handwriting.

Hobi,

Yoongi took me away to his lake house, I needed a break from everything not just you. I don’t think you realise how hard it is to look at you and know that you don’t remember everything about me. Don’t worry I’ll be back in a few days and I need you to know that I love you. Have fun Hobi.

Jimin

PS

I needed to add my part. I am staying with Jimin he needs someone to watch over him. We will both be back in a few don’t miss us to much. Yoongi

Hoseok placed the letter back down his hands shaking and before he knew it he was crying with the sudden realization that he was alone. That both Jimin and Yoongi had left him here because he had failed the man he had married and the man he was in love with. He sat there for hours crying until the door opened and Namjoon pulled him into a chair.

A few days later

Yoongi watched as Jimin feel asleep in his arms trying not to fall asleep himself after the long night that they had both had. They knew that getting this close to each other was wrong and that what they had spent the night doing was wrong and it was completely unfair to Hoseok but they couldn’t deny that would they had done felt right in the moment and they were both content in each other not facing the world at the moment. That was until the door opened and a very familiar voice rang through the lodge making Jimin bolt up suddenly very awake he scrambled to pull on any article of clothing running out of the door before Yoongi could get out of bed. Yoongi stood on the stairs watching as Jimin kissed Hoseok as if his life depended on it, Hoseok had remembered everything his temporary amnesia had ended. And well Yoongi expected that they were getting back together now. After everything that they had been through in the last month Yoongi was back being the friend who was utterly in love with both of them. So he ran as fast as he could.

“Yoongi!!!”

Yoongi froze when he heard Hoseok calling for him as if he actually wanted him to stay so he turned to face the happy colour with tears rolling down his face. He knew that he was shaking and that he probably looked strange with no shoes on in the muddy forest at 4 am in the morning.

“I have to leave. You both know that I have to leave. I’m the side the other one I am nothing compared to you two. You have the perfect love that nothing can destroy look at you, you both fought through Hoseok forgetting everything. And yet God seems to think that it would be so amusing if I fell head over heels for both of you. I hate myself for kissing Hoseok and sleeping with Jimin because I know that it is never going to be enough. Whatever I do will never be enough.”

Yoongi’s voice broke as he fell into Jimin’s arms who had ran forward to catch him before he fell. He cried into Jimin’s shoulder for what seemed to be like an eternity until he sensed that Hoseok had joined them on the floor of the chilly forest. He pulled back away from Jimin to look at Hoseok’s face who was looking down at him with an expression that read anxious but also scared.

“Yoongi I love Jimin yes and I married him but I love you too. Before you say anything, yes in the way you want me too. I think that I recently discovered this love but I know that I always loved you I just loved Jimin more. Now however I have fallen completely for you. Jimin?”

Hoseok turned to Jimin who was threading his fingers through Yoongi’s hair while humming a soft tune that calmed him down immensely. Yoongi couldn’t look at Jimin knowing that he had made Hoseok fall for him even when he was married. But Jimin turned his face up to look at him.

“I love you too Gi hyung. Do you honestly think that I would sleep with you and then run away from it all. I think not. We love you Yoongi so much.”

They sat in the middle of the woods content with each other in each others arms watching as the sun came up starting a new day and new life together. Forever starts today.
