I Will Come to You as the Rain

Description

The day after Kim Shin's death.

Foreword

She sat on the jetted rock, watching the waves crash. She held a large candle, although it was already halfway burned out. Eun Tak felt burned out herself.

She thought of the night before. As she had held the fading Goblin in her arms, she wondered how long it would be until she was holding nothing but ashes.

And he knew he would die that night! She was too swept up in the romance to question why. Even on the roof, when Kim Shin kissed her - really kissed her - the thought had never crossed her mind. He planned to leave that wretched night.

The deity was so cruel! Why would he bring her a lover only to be killed? Was she meant to suffer? Was she destined to live her life in sorrow? And for what? The deity's amusement?

Whilst in Eun Tak was wallowing in her thoughts, the candle was reduced to a quarter. She did notice this but could not bring herself to blow it out. She knew that she couldn't summon him. He was dead. He would not be standing behind her when she turned around. But she could still hope and extinguishing the flame would extinguish her hope that she would see him again.

Suddenly, one of her tears engulfed the flame, and it began to rain.
