CHAPTER III.
BLOOD THICKER THAN WATER
it's been a week back, and vernon is more or less settled.
more or less being the operative phrase. i mean, there's still that busted lip from when the prefects jumped on him during the train ride. yes, it was totally worth it- in case you were wondering.
but now it's time for school and although it's not finals yet, vernon can feel the headaches a mile away as his coursework starts becoming heavier and heavier. not to mention, the duties he has as a prefect- it's a lot, helping (and tricking, how did mcgonagal think it was a good idea to assign him the role of a prefect?) first years settle into a magical boarding school, late night patrols, and walks through the forbidden forests for detention guard duty.
it should be worth noted that vernon is the farthest thing from what's expected of him. if he were to describe himself in an action book, the very first line would probably be "vernon chwe. agent 007 by day, engima by night." he mentions this to joshua during lunch one day and joshua couldn't do anything but both agree with him and mock his opening line.
"joshua hong. head boy by day, christian boy by night." and yes, it's hilarious. joshua is one of the strongest magicians hogwarts has seen in a couple of batches, but despite his magical potency- that boy uses charms to create a school wifi, which he uses for the sole purpose of watching church online every sunday at 9am."
he was loud, reckless, and had a tendency to say the most tactless quips. all the teachers hated him in some shape or form because he had disrupted their class at least once- more so when they're forced to give him good grades. in all honesty, no one really expected vernon to get consitently good grades, to be singled out for the role of prefect. it's great, being able to rub his pin in people's faces, alongside his grades all marked with a+.
no one really questions it after the first year where he proved himself, but they act surprised anyways.
it was a really good week- dada with slytherins who were feisty and made for good combat powers, being able to finish his patrols early, they baked his favourite american mac n' cheese again. and then shannon's there.
she was a lot like him- new york raised, half american and korean. a lot of people used to confuse them as twins, they looked eerily alike but that's where the simlarities ended. shannon was a hufflepuff and not even a fraction smart of what hansol was.
she's strolling past him, a malicious smile on her face as she walks up to him and drops a letter. "found this in the owlery, vernon. it was dropped on the floor and covered with owl ." she laughs a little bit and god, that sounds like a demon ritual. and just like she said, his letter was covered in owl .
ing hufflepuffs. weren't they supposed to be the kind ones? but then again, everything had changed since harry defeated voldermort and now, stereotypes were all but broken.
vernon stared at the smelly letter- fresh, he knew that she had deliberately placed owl on it. and he knew why, the moment he saw who sent it.
from the choi family.
and with a sigh, he tucked the letter into his robe, going about the rest of his day with an unreadable expression- one that no one knew why but joshua. what a great way to end the week.
