“I’m sorry.”

“That’s alright. I don’t feel anymore.”

The moment of realisation was a crack. Mina realised, and she regretted until she decided it was true. The man’s expression faltered, as he looked about the perfectly clean room for an escape.

“I... oh. Well then...”

“Thank you for the audition,” Mina said with a bow as deep and long as she could manage. She turned and strode out, movements graceful, opening the door with the faintest of creaks and gently closing it behind her.

For a moment, her eyes rested on the polished wood of the door. It was a gentle colour, like caramel, warm-toned and light. It didn't match her frame of mind, but she wasn't petulant enough to be upset about something like that.

Not when her whole life had revolved around this, and this was only the thirteenth audition she'd failed. She nearly started shaking when she thought about her parents’ inevitable reactions. But that was for another day.

For now, she tore her eyes away from the little door of escapism, looking out at the open and cruel world that looked a lot like a quiet office setting. And then she made her way outside.

I really wanted to write something yesterday and I didn't have access to most of my stories so I chose to start something new. I spent a lot of time browsing this prompt thread and as much as I want to credit all the prompts that inspired me there's too many and I can't even find all of them, so just have a browse and check out the sources if you're in dire need of inspiration or something.

Anyway, I got inspired enough and sat down and wrote like 4 chapters and then went to bed and fell asleep thinking about ideas and woke up thinking about ideas and it was bad because I'm doing a totally different non-fanfiction story for NaNoWriMo whoops. But when I have time and I've hit my daily word goal for NaNo I'll probably be writing this one, so updates will be fairly steady, at least until they aren't lol. I know I have other ongoings to get on track with but ahh, so many stories and characters are existing in my brain and right now I'm just going to write the loudest ones.
