Appa Bear

Appa Bear

With BIGBANG’S new album, came a new world tour. This wasn’t anything new to you. You had been through three world tours that had Jiyong gone for months. It was hard, but you both made it work. This time was a bit different. You were both married and now had a three year old daddy’s girl who hasn’t been away from her father for more than just a couple of weeks. She has been crying for the last few days. She even fell asleep in his luggage as she was preventing him from packing. Jiyong carried her to her bed with sadness in his eyes, and you were sure they reflected what was in his heart.

“What am I suppose to do, jagiya?” Jiyong said as he collapsed in bed as you continued to pack his luggage, having to take advantage of the opportunity now that your little one is sleeping.

You placed the shirt you just folded into the luggage and made your way to the bed, where Jiyong laid on his stomach with his face buried in a pillow.

“She’s young, Jiyong. She doesn’t know any better. She will understand with time.” You said as you ran your hand through his hair and down his back.

“She shouldn’t have to understand. Her dad should always be with her. He shouldn’t have to leave. I shouldn’t have to leave her.”

“It’s only a couple of months, yeobo. She will have video calls every day, just like you did with me. She will understand when she is older what her dad does, and she will be proud of you, just like I am.”

“I don’t deserve you, you know.” He turned his head to look at you.

“I know.” You said as you squeezed his nose and laughed. He laughed as well. You were always great at making him smile when he needed it the most.

“I love you, Y/N.” He sat up and pulled you into his arms.

“I love you too, Jiyong.” You buried your face in his chest and held him tight. You both remained that way, syncing your breaths and heartbeats, for several minutes.

“Ok, ok. We can cuddle later. Now you have to finish packing.” You said as you pulled away and got off the bed. He just sat there watching you move about with a pout on his face once again. You walked back over to him and kissed the pout away.

“What would I do without you?” He asked as he cupped your face in his hands and caressed your cheeks with his thumbs.

“Run around the world since you would have an empty luggage.” You said with a bright smile. He let out a hearty laugh.

“Fine, I get it. Let’s pack.” He stood up and took your hand in his as he lead you back into your shared walk in closet.

The day of Jiyong’s departure finally came. His luggage was lined up outside of the apartment as he stood at the entrance. Your little one was standing behind you, hiding her face in your legs.

“Sweetie, say goodbye to appa.” You felt her shake her head as she sniffled. You looked at Jiyong with a sad smile that he mirrored.

“Princess, appa has a present for you.” He crouched down to her level holding out a stuffed animal in the shape of a dragon. It was as big as your daughter.

She peered her head from behind your legs and her eyes went wide as soon as she saw it. Dragons were her favorite. With hesitant steps, she walked toward it while rubbing the tears out of her eyes. She glanced back and forth between the dragon and Jiyong. Jiyong gave her a smile and a small nod, finally urging her to take the gift. With her small hand, she petted the dragon’s head and giggled. She grabbed the dragon and hugged it tightly in her arms as she buried her face in it. Suddenly, Jiyong’s voice could be heard from the dragon, surprising your daughter.

“Princess, whenever you feel lonely and miss appa, hug the dragon and you will hear my voice.”

“Thank you, appa!” She ran into his arms with the dragon held tightly by her side.

“I love you, princess. Appa is sorry to have to leave you.”

“Its ok. It’s appa’s job to make the whole world happy.” She told him with a gummy smile.

“I love you, princess.” He tightly hugged your daughter and buried his face in her hair.

“You already said that, appa!” Your daughter giggled.

“I did, didn’t I?” They were both laughing as your daughter was showered in kisses.

“Jiyong…” You didn’t want to break their moment, but he was going to be late if this continued, and you knew he would never stop himself.

“I know.” He sighed. Picking up your daughter, he made his way to you.

“I’m sorry to leave you alone.”

“Stop apologizing. There’s nothing to apologize for.” You said with a reassuring smile. It was always tough when he left, but you had to be strong not only for him, but for your daughter as well.

“I love you, jagiya. Both of you.” He said as he pulled you in for a long hug. Of course, you didn’t want to pull away, but it was time for him to leave.

“Princess, appa has to go and sing for everyone.” Your daughter nodded sadly in your husband’s arms.

“Appa, sing well and come home soon.” She kissed his cheek and hid her face behind the dragon shyly.

“I will, princess. I will call you tomorrow night to read you a story.” She moved the dragon away from her face as you can clearly see her excitement.

“Can you tell me the one where the dragon saves the princess again?”

“ Of course. Make sure to be a good girl for your umma.”

“I promise I will be a good princess!” He kissed her cheek and passed her into your arms.

“Have a safe flight, oppa. Let me know when you land.”

“Of course, jagiya.” He kissed you sweetly before he kissed your little girl once more. Then he was out the door, leaving just the two of you in the house for the next three months.

For the first couple of weeks, your daughter cried every night until she fell asleep holding the dragon Jiyong gave her tightly in her arms. She took that dragon everywhere. She slept with it, fed it, sat it on the toilet as she brushed her teeth or took bath, and even danced with it when you would put on one of his albums. She became inseparable with it. She even started called it “Appa Bear”. When you asked her why bear and not dragon, she simply said “I can’t have two Dragon Appas.”

The day of Jiyong’s return finally came. The apartment was decorated with handmade stars, hearts, and dragons, courtesy of you and your daughter. Food was cooked and the cake had been frosted. Your daughter insisted on helping with every aspect of the surprise welcome back party.

Thanks to your perfect timing, and the help of Jiyong’s manager, you were able to get everything ready just as he walked into the building’s elevator. You quickly ushered your daughter to hide behind the dining table as you went about turning off all the lights in the apartment. As soon as you heard the code being entered, you ran to your daughter’s side, shushing her as she tried to contain her giggles.

“I’m home!” Jiyong said loudly into a dark, silent apartment.

“Princess? Jagiya?” Jiyong called out, but received no answer. It was hard to believe that you weren’t there to welcome him home. You were always by the doorway when he came back from tours.

Leaving his luggage by the door, he ventured through the apartment, turning on the lights as he goes.

“Surprise!” Screamed both you and your daughter once he switched the light in the dining area on. You couldn’t help but laugh at the way he slightly jumped from the scare. He managed to compose himself quickly as your daughter ran full force into his arms, dragging Appa Bear with her.

“Welcome home, appa!”

“I missed you, princess. So, so much.” He squeezed her tightly and spun around in circles.

“I missed you too, appa!” Your daughter managed to say between giggle fits.

“Welcome home, oppa.” You said after he slowed down.

“I’m home, jagiya.” He pulled you in for a kiss.

“Appa, umma and I cooked for you!”

“You did? Well let’s eat!”

Jiyong pulled out your chair and raised his eyebrow at you in question as your daughter did the same to the chair next to her and placed Appa Bear in it. You just smiled and shook your head to let it go.

Throughout dinner, you daughter was filling Jiyong in on everything that happened in her life since he left. His gummy smile never fell from his face, even for a second.

Afterwards, as you were cleaning the dishes, he was getting your daughter ready for bed.

“Do you want to sleep with appa today, princess?” He asked as he tucked her in.

“No. I have Appa Bear to sleep with. He has been a good appa, appa.”

“Has he? I am happy Appa Bear kept you company.”

“Appa should sleep with umma. Umma told me to sleep with Appa Bear and she would wait for appa. Umma has been all alone.” He ran a hand through his little girl’s hair as he looked at her with sad eyes. Since when did she become so mature?

“I’ll make sure you or umma won’t feel lonely.” He kissed her small forehead.

“Thank you, Appa Bear, for keeping my little girl company.” He kissed the dragon’s head. She squeezed the dragon, prompting his voice saying “I love you” to ring through the air. He couldn’t help but to laugh, and neither could she.

“Goodnight, princess.” He stood up and turned off the lights

“Goodnight, appa.”

He made his way into the kitchen where you were putting away the last dish. He came behind you and hugged you tight while burying his head in the crook of your neck.

“Hey, you.” You said gently as you dried your hands.

“Hey.”

“Whats wrong?”

“Did you miss me?” He said quietly.

“Of course I did.”

“Did my daughter miss me?” He let his arm loosen as you turned around to face him in his embrace.

“Of course she did.” You said as you grabbed his face to have him look at you.

“Seems like she had Appa Bear to keep her company, even if I’m here.” He stubbornly kept his eyes glued to the floor.

“Kwon Jiyong, are you jealous of a stuffed animal?” You said with amusement dripping from your every word.

“No.” He mumbled, a pout stronger than you have ever seen settled on his face. You couldn’t help but to laugh.

“Jiyong, look at me.” He sighed and finally looked you in the eyes.

“She loves you and she missed you every day you were gone. And remember, you were the one who gave her the dragon.”

“Sorry.” He sighed and smiled shyly as he finally realized how ridiculous he was being.

“Now, baby.” He looked at you with an eyebrow raised, as you moved your hands slowly up his arms and done his chest.

“Isn’t it time I welcome you home properly?” You said seductively.

The smirk that graced his face was worse than on your wedding night. Without warning, he wrapped your legs around his waist, earning a quiet yelp from you. Your arms automatically wrapped around his neck as he made his way to your shared bedroom to receive his welcome home present.
