“How long have we been friends again?” Mina asked chaeyoung as they lay on the grass in chaeyoung’s family garden

 

“Since like forever?”  chaeyoung said as they both laugh

 

Chaeyoung’s POV

 

I look at her as we both giggle endlessly, she’s really pretty, very charming and all. Yeah, I’ve probably fall in love with her like since forever.

 

She’s my childhood friend, we’ve been friends since we’re toddlers, both of our parents are friends.

 

But

 

We’re friends.

 

Yes, I’m in love with my best friend and the fact that I’m in love with her for so long and she doesn’t know, scares me. I can’t ruin this friendship, I can never.

 

We’re still both young, I’m 14 and she’s 16. That’s right chaeyoung, just better keep everything yourself, for now.

 

I convinced myself as I stare at her. I smiled

 

She noticed me and smiled back.

Mina’s POV

 

I quickly run to the park as soon as I read chaeyoung’s text message to me saying she wants to meet up with me and tell me something. We’re living beside each other, I don’t know why she asked to meet up in the park

 

I’ve been waiting for this moment. I hope she confess even though I know she only see me as her unnie. I still wanna think positive about this. I’ve been in love with her since I realize that I never actually saw her as my younger sister.

 

I fixed myself as I saw chaeyoung ruining happily towards me.

 

“Hey unnie!” 

 

“oh chaeyoungie!” I called back happily, smiling ear to ear

 

“I have something to say” she said as she’s smiling at me.

 

There it goes! There it goes! She’s going to confess! I’m feeling butterflies in my stomach!

 

“I finally asked somi to prom and she said yes!”

 

Damn

 

What a turn of event. Hah! Who am I kidding, she will never feel the same way. She only sees me as a unnie. She will never return my feelings if ever I confess.

Chaeyoung burst out in mina’s room and laid in her bed.

 

“you’re so at home, aren’t you?” Mina said as she’s still busy reading her book.

 

“Isn’t this my room also?” chaeyoung smiled

Chaeyoung smiled wider

 

“You’re my favorite dongsaeng after all” 

 

“HAHAHA” chaeyoung faked a laugh to hide her disappointment

 

“so, how’s you and somi? It’s been a week since the prom” mina asked, still not looking

“nahhh, we’re just friends, I had a crush on her but that’s all, crushing is different of liking someone”

 

“Do you like someone?” Mina glanced at chaeyoung

 

“I don’t, I’m too young” chaeyoung lied

 

“right, focus on your studies so you can be rich” mina forced a smile and ruffles chaeyoung’s hair.

Chaeyoung and Mina came to gang’s favorite café since they all wanted to hang out.

They entered the café holding hands as they greet everyone, specifically, dahyun, tzuyu, sana and momo

 

“Hey!” they both said

“yow! Finally I get to see you both!” Dahyun almost shouted

“I can’t believe you guys aren’t dating, you’re both cute together”

 

Mina and chaeyoung broke the holding hands as they felt hot sensation on both of their cheeks

“come on! She’s my unnie!” chaeyoung said defensively

 

“eh! You already have a unnie dwarf!” tzuyu said

 

Mina forced a smile and fake a laugh “yeah! She’s my dongsaeng, don’t make it weird”

 

“Whatever, let’s just eat. Look at momo spacing out because she’s so hungry” sana pointed at momo who’s actually really spacing out. Staring at the air.

Chaeyoung usually calls mina to come sleep in her room whenever she feels sad. There’s always a night when chaeyoung needs mina’s hug, anxiety hitting her and mina will always be rushing over to chaeyoung’s room. She feels glad she’s living beside chaeyoung’s house. She can’t bare to know that chaeyoung is having a hard time.

Mina knows when this happens. She quickly wore her hoodie and rushed to son’s house, she used her spare keys. They gave her a spare key in the house since she’s like a family to them and they know chaeyoung usually calls mina to come over.

 

She comes rushing to chaeyoung’s room and soon as she enters, she saw chaeyoung curling into her bed.

 

The older girl didn’t mutter a word and just hugged chaeyoung.

“It’s gonna be okay”

 

Chaeyoung sighs

 

“I’m alright, I just need you here”

 

“I’m here, don’t worry, you can talk to me”

Chaeyoung, Mina, Tzuyu, Sana,Dahyun and Momo are in the usual café to have their lunch.

 

“My hyung is coming back home!” Chaeyoung said excitedly

 

“Jeongyeon? I haven’t seen her since we’re like 10 years old” Mina asked in surprise

 

“yes! Actually, she just called me earlier and said she’s going to come here to meet you guys again. look how more handsome she has become” Chaeyoung smirked feeling proud about her unnie.

 

“America changed her” Dahyun laughed

 

“Good afternoon! Welcome to Ji’s café”

 

They all look at the new comer as soon as they heard the waitress greet the customer.

 

They saw a handsome short haired girl wearing hoodie.

 

“HYUNG!”

Chaeyoung rushed to jeongyeon and tackled her with a hug. Jeongyeon hugged back, placed her arms around chaeyoung as she ruffles her hair.

“You surely miss me”

 

Chaeyoung giggles.

 

“Hey everyone!” Jeongyeon greeted

 

“oh! Is that you mina?” jeongyeon said excitedly as she’s awe in mina’s beauty. “You’ve changed, you’ve changed a lot, you look more beautiful”  Jeongyeon released chaeyoung and sat down beside mina, leaving chaeyoung standing there watching them.

Mina lowered her head down as she tries to hide her blush.

 

Is she bushing??  Chaeyoung thought

 

“Speak for yourself jeongyeon, you look handsome” Mina said back as she smiles

 

 

Everyone went silent watching jeongyeon and mina complimenting each other.

 

“Jeongyeon didn’t even compliment me” sana whispered to tzuyu

“because you’re still fugly since then”

“Rude!”  Sana glared at tzuyu

 

Dahyun nudged momo’s side as she stares at chaeyoung who was looking at mina and jeongyeon the whole time.

 

“the cub is jealous” dahyun whispered

 

Chaeyoung heard dahyun and glared at her.

 

“I am not!” she said almost shouted

 

“you’re not what?” Jeongyeon and mina both asked

 

“she’s jea-“  Dahyun panicked

Just before momo could finish her sentence, dahyun shoved momo’s burger in

“She said, chaeyoung’s jea-st (just) like to sit down and eat, right chaeng?” dahyun made an excuse.

 

“ah yes” chaeyoung immediately got dahyun’s signal and sat down

 

Jeongyeon and Mina both nodded and continued talking to each other the whole time as chaeyoung kept quiet and watch them laughing and flirting with each other.

Chaeyoung and Jeongyeon both got home.

 

“Bro! you didn’t tell me mina looks that good!” Jeongyeon exclaimed

“I did” Chaeyoung said, almost whispered

 

“She’s gorgeous!”

“I said that” jeonyeon ignored chaeyoung

“And she’s still calm” The older no jam continued talking

“I said that too”

Jeonyeon kept talking and ignores chaeyoung the whole time

This time jeongyeon noticed chaeyoung and said

 

“of course! I’ve liked her since when were little, I only didn’t get a chance when mommy and daddy made me study in America”

Days, weeks, months passed by with chaeyoung holding it all. She doesn’t get time with mina anymore, she’s always with jeongyeon. Mina doesn’t call chaeyoung often anymore. If ever mina comes in their house, she’s there because of jeongyeon. When chaeyoung calls mina, she’s always “I’m sorry, I can’t, jeongyeon asked me for lunch” it’s always like that. Text messages becomes lesser, even when nights she needed mina, mina can’t answer her calls because she’s outside,

Mina spent more time with jeongyeon than chaeyoung now

 

 

But this time, Mina is in chaeyoung’s room.

 

Chaeyoung ain’t complaining tho, she misses mina so much, she’s happy she’s here.

 

“chaeyoungie!” mina called out rolling in her bed

 

“You seems happy, what is it? Did you got compliment on your ballet class?” chaeyoung asked happily

 

“No! better!”

 

“what is it?” Chaeyoung felt excited, mina probably had something big she experienced

 

“Me and jeongyeon are dating now”  Mina said as she’s smiling from ear to ear

 

Chaeyoung felt her heart drop, her whole world drop. Jeongyeon, her sister and mina, her love…. Are together. Chaeyoung tried to sink it in. It’s failing her.

 

“w-what?” her smile faded slowly

 

“We’re together now!”

“HA-HA, wow! That’s great!” Chaeyoung faked a laugh

 

 

I knew I don’t have a chance with her, but why jeongyeon hyung? Why does it have to be my sister?

 

 

Mina’s POV

 

“Me and jeongyeon are dating now”  I said trying to make her jealous

“w-what?” I saw her smile faded

 “We’re together now!”  I said

 

Why isn’t she saying something?!

 

“Haha, wow! That’s great!” Chaeyoung laughed

 

She approves?

 

She doesn’t care. I’ve told you a million times, mina. She doesn’t like you, be happy with jeongyeon now. Let’s move on.

Mina became a part of son’s family now, not because of chaeyoung anymore, but because of she’s jeongyeon’s girlfriend. They approved of the relationships.

 

 

They always invite mina for dinner and of course mina always says yes. Mina always agrees but she feels sad in the fact that they approved of her being jeongyeon’s girl friend and not chaeyoung’s. She knows she needs to give up her love for chaeyoung, but she can’t seems to erase it.

 

She mostly see chaeyoung in jeongyeon.

 

She spent time more and more lesser with chaeyoung, making them almost not seeing each other anymore. Chaeyoung is always in her room, she doesn’t call mina anymore, she actually didn’t bother her anymore since the day jeongyeon and mina got together.

What hurts mina the most is that chaeyoung went cold, she distant herself to both jeongyeon and mina.

Mina groans as she woke up from ringing of her phone.

 

She picks it up without looking at the screen.

 

“Hello, can you please pick up the owner of this phone in  TW bar? She’s really really drunk, Your name in her contact is “my love” so I assumed you’re the girl she keeps murmuring. Please pick her up”

 

Mina jolt awake as she heard the guy in the other line, she got up and ended the call without answering. She rushed outside and took her parent’s car without permission. She sneaked it out in the middle of tfhe night .

 

She drove as quickly as possible.

 

She arrived in the bar and thanked the bartender

 

 

Mina saw chaeyoung in the bar counter, she placed chaeyoung’s arm over her shoulder and helped her to walk.

 

“I love her but I never told her” Chaeyoung suddenly said almost not understandable since she’s really drunk.

 

“chaeyoung, I’m taking you home” Mina said

 

“and you kn wht hurtss more? Sh-with  hyung for almot half year now”

 

Mina still couldn’t understand chaeyoung clearly with the jumble of words

 

“I hate myoui mina because I love her”

 

Mina stopped walking and stared at chaeyoung, she understand that well, chaeyoung said it clearly.

 

Chaeyoung removed her arm on mina and tried to stand up straight.

 

“hey!” she said

 

“wait!” chaeyoung furrowed her eyebrows as she look who’s she’s with, everything looks blurry to her. “mina?”

 

She froze

 

“pshh! Mina won’t come for me anymore” she brush it off as she tries to walk.

 

Mina rushed to chaeyoung as she almost tripped.

Mina was able to get chaeyoung in the car’s passenger seat.

 

Chaeyoung started to sob.

 

“I wish I told her first” Chaeyoung said between her sobs.

 

“If I could just turn back time, maybe, just maybe I’m the one kissing her forehead now, kissing her lips, holding her hand, hugging her, tell her I love her, instead of my unnie”

 

Chaeyoung cried harder

 

Mina only listens to chaeyoung’s words as she grips on the steering wheel and leans her head.

 

She felt her chest tightening hearing chaeyoung’s hurtful sobs.

 

She sighs heavily, not being to hold it anymore, tears dropped continuously.

 

 

 

 

 

Mina got chaeyoung home and called jeongyeon

 

“What happened to her?” jeongyeon asked curiously as she took chaeyoung from mina

 

“I don’t know, the bartender just called”

 

“Why didn’t they call me”

 

“I need to go”

“alright, you go sleep now.” Jeongyeon said as she kiss mina’s forehead

Mina entered chaeyoung’s room

 

“Chaeyoung, we need to talk”

 

“There’s nothing to talk about”  she tried to avoid the older girl

 

“Yes, we do”

 

“No, there isn’t”

 

“chaeyoung, please. I heard you said you love me last night”

 

“I was just drunk”

 

“People are more honest when they’re drunk”

 

Chaeyoung looked mina.

 

“What does it matter if I do love you?”

 

“It does, but since when did you love me?”

 

“Childhood”

 

“god! Chaeyoung! You never told me”  mina pinched the bridge of her nose

“Why does it matter?!” chaeyoung walked to mina and faced her

 

“Because I love you too, okay?!!” Mina lost her cool

 

Chaeyoung frozen in her spot.

 

“I love you since we were young, probably like yours. I never told you beca-“

 

Mina got cut off as chaeyoung smashed her lips into hers.

 

The younger girl broke the kiss, shut her eyes closed and moved away from mina.

 

While mina is still dumbfounded

 

“I’m sorry, you have hyung now”

 

Chaeyoung felt a pair of arms in her waist, hugging her. She turned around and look at mina’s eyes.

 

Mina couldn’t bare it anymore, She love jeongyeon, but she loves chaeyoung way more.

She kissed chaeyoung once more as tear dropped from her eyes, chaeyoung held her face and deepens the kiss.

 

She doesn’t want to hurt jeongyeon tho.

 

She broke the kiss.

 

“I’m sorry, maybe it’s just wrong timing” Mina said

 

“It is, but don’t hurt my hyung” chaeyoung warned

“I’m going to study in America, It’s my time to study there since hyung is here now”

Jeongyeon and I rushed to the airport to pick chaeyoung up. She’s finally coming back.

I smiled as I thought of chaeyoung.

 

Maybe, this time is perfect for us.

 

1 year ago, I broke up with jeongyeon and told her everything. I told her I’m in love with her sister, she’s very kind and understanding, all she told me was “I know, I know from the start, you never looked at me how you looked at her” I know she felt really hurt but she told me we can still be friends, and so we did.

 

We both saw chaeyoung pushing her bag cart towards us.

Wow! She looks different, she has a long hair now. She’s looks really mature.

 

Chaeyoung waved at us

 

“Wow! I can’t believe you guys are still together, I’m too busy in the states so I can’t really get to talk to you more often” Chaeyoung said to jeongyeon

 

“bro, we broke up 1 year ago” jeongyeon said

 

“but why?” chaeyoung asked curiously

 

I ignored her and said

“welcome back chaeyoungie” I hugged her

 

“thank you mina” Chaeyoung smiled

 

“Chaeng!”

 

We heard someone calling her, walking towards us.

 

Jeongyeon and I looked at each other.

 

We saw a girl hooking her arm on chaeyoung’s

 

“Oh this is yoojung” the girl smiled

 

Chaeyoung continued

“My girlfriend”

 

I felt a stab in my heart.

 

Is the fate trying to play tricks on me? Is this a bad joke? Am I dreaming? This can’t be real, I refuse to believe.

 

I tried to fake a smile.

 

Jeongyeon noticed me

“uhm. Let’s go now”

 

 

 

The travel was silent. Trying to avoid any more things to trigger my pain.

Weeks had pass witnessing yoojung and chaeyoung together as me and jeongyeon drive them to have a good time, they did had a good time. I’m not.

 

Jeongyeon told me to not to come but I insist, this is the only time I can see chaeyoung.

 

I’m trying to find a moment that I can talk to her. So I can tell her I still love her, maybe she still does too.

 

 

 

I told jeongyeon to find me a time to talk to chaeyoung. She invited yoojung to come to a mall for shopping without chaeyoung knowing

She turned around and saw it was me

 

“oh hey, where’s hyung and yoojung?”

 

“They went out in the mall touring yoojung”

 

“oh” chaeyoung said awkwardly. “by the way, why did you and hyung broke up? You guys were perfect” she asked avoiding my gaze and scrolling her phone

 

“Because I still love you, until now”

 

She froze.

 

I walked closer.

 

“I’m happy now” she said

 

I stopped walking.

 

She looked at me

 

I nodded

 

No need for more hurtful words.  I turn my heel and leaved.

“I’m happy now” I said as I looked at her

 

She nodded and didn’t say a word

 

And walked away

 

 

“I’m happy, doesn’t mean I don’t love you anymore” I whispered as I let her slip away from me once again

1 month had passed so quickly and it’s time to go back to U.S again.

 

Mina didn’t come to send us to airport anymore.

“I’m gonna miss you again you rat!”

I’m about to go but I remembered something

Chaeyoung’s POV

 

Right after I got back to America from korea years ago, I broke up with yoojung and told her I still love my childhood friend, of course she got mad, she even slapped me hard, it gave a mark on my face.

 

But that day

 

I promised myself that I will be back to korea for mina, that after I graduate, after I get my master’s degree I will book the earliest flight to korea.

 

I never actually contacted anyone from korea trying to focus on my studies. Just my parents and hyung, not often tho.

 

I remember what she told me, study and get rich.

 

 

This is the day  I’m going back to korea, I feel excited. I can’t wait to see her, to hug her, to kiss her and finally be with her.

 

I’m packing my bags as quickly as I can. My flight is at 12am and it’s already 11pm.

 

I opened the door of my apartment but got a notification on my email. I opened it before I could leave.

 

I dropped everything I’m holding.

I looked at her as she’s walking down the aisle wearing her white wedding dress, she looks amazing, she looks gorgeous. Her smile is making me smile.

I wish it was me, I wish I was that guy she would spend her life with

 

 

Before she could say “I do” , she looked around and saw me.

She doesn’t look happy. I can see it in her eyes, saying I love you.

 

 

I couldn’t take it tho. I walked out of the room.

 

 

 

Why is it always like this? I feel angry, I feel angry with fate. Is this really my fate? Ours? Is it really? I don’t understand.

 

 

 

 

Mina’s POV

 

 

My love for chaeyoung will never fade away, I might be marrying him but Chaeyoung is the one I love. Fate and destiny might not be in favor of us but it doesn’t erase the fact that I love her.

 

What a bad timing. We spent our whole life chasing for each other but never really got together.

 

 

I laughed bitterly in my head.

We never got the chance to be together, it's all because of wrong timing.

 

 

I fell in love with the right person

But

 in the wrong time.

 

 

the painful part is, it happened repeatedly.
