The Lifetime Kids
Description
A novel in which SHINee understand what it is to be forever young, and, likewise, forever old.
Foreword
Based on reality, The Lifetime Kids is not intended to be a true reflection of the lives of idols. With no wealth of knowledge on Korean culture or the innermost workings of the idol-system, this story is purely fictitious and is based instead on trying to showcase the hidden harms all humans face. Whether young or old, unknown or famous, we all can have it difficult. This novel is my attempt at trying (and most likely failing) to communicate this to all you beautiful readers, that no matter who we are, we are intrinsically bound by the fact that we are human.
I do not know much on how idols live their lives. I am no expert on entertainment companies, on shows and on scandals, and so, though set in our universe (as such), The Lifetime Kids is not an attempt to cite the members’ lives as something they aren’t – it is simply an attempt to tell a story I feel is important to share, and not just because it's fan-fiction. I want to show that, though at times we are all guilty of objectifying the members or of speaking about them almost too casually for what they may find comfortable, as a fan-base, we appreciate our boys, we love our boys, to the extent that we'll write novels on them, create gifts for them, support them from now until the end. As Shawols, we are here for SHINee, and I want this fiction to be representative of that, even if the members themselves will never see it. I also want it to show that, even if we are separated from idols, by their fame, by their wealth, by whatever it is, that they are still inherently human, and we should treat them as such, respect them as such, and, most importantly, care for them (and their privacy) as such.
So, The Lifetime Kids is, in essence, just my own pretentious attempt at reaching out to the fandom, and hoping to let people step back and consider what we love: five wonderful, hard-working and talented guys. However much we don’t want to admit it, they're humans, just like you, just like me, and I want to show that. I also hope you take more from this than your favourite ship, but I doubt my writing is capable enough to achieve much. I just wanted to try, for them I have to try. I've set myself up to fall, but at least I'll fall without the regret that I didn't start walking.
So, I hope you enjoy, and thank you for reading, and this may be undoubtedly pretentious, but as am I, apparently, and as is writing, really. It's all cyclic.
Trigger: Depression, anxiety, angst, abuse, ual scenes, swearing, dodgy as hell poetry (you have been warned). Oh and please leave comments, I want your opinion more than, like, life... Yeah.
