It all started with Hoseok in high school.

It was a joke of course, when was Hoseok ever serious? 

The three of them were joking around at the bowling alley, just like they always did on Thursdays after school. The workers there started learning their names and Namjoon even had a standing order of nachos at the counter. They never expected it to go down the way it did.

“Here you go Namjoon” Jiyeon, the pretty girl working the food counter smiled handing the order over the moment Namjoon had walked up “Nachos and two water bottles, right?”

“Thank you Noona” Namjoon grinned pulling his wallet from his back pocket “I should probably change that order pretty soon if you’ve already learnt it, huh?”

“Why fix somethin’ that aint broke?” she laughed punching the numbers into the register “Besides you make my job easier”

Namjoon laughed “That’s true, thanks again” he said turning on his heel to walk back to his friends

If there was one thing Namjoon knew about Hoseok, was that his favorite thing in the whole bowling alley was the pinball machine.

“Come on, come on, come on!” Hoseok chanted intensely trying to lean the machine to make the machine lean with the ball “Yes! That’s a good baby” he grinned as he continued pressing the buttons on the side of it

“Since when’d you start calling the thing baby?” Namjoon snorted throwing his arm over Yoongi’s shoulder

“Shut up!” Hoseok whined “She is my baby, I love her.”

Namjoon laughed loudly “She?” he joked, watching Yoongi cringe from the loud noise

“Yes” he nodded, letting the ball through the mallets. “She”

“I don’t know man” Yoongi sneered “Every time I see him play that game I feel like I’m intruding on something way too intimate”

“I mean, you know Yoongi hyung” Hoseok shrugged, inputting another token into the machine “If this game was a person, I’d have with it”

Before Namjoon could even attempt to retort his ‘You’d probably it even it wasn’t a person, let’s be honest’ there was a series of loud crashes coming from behind the counter, making them all turn their heads just in time to see Jiyeon skidder out from behind the swinging door, looking completely frazzled – hair a mess, uniform slightly misplaced, and grab the microphone used for calling out orders

“OK!” Her voice boomed, slightly garbled from the static of the intercom “Who’s the asshat that just said they’d one of arcade games, huh?”

The three blinked at each other for a second, before Yoongi and Namjoon burst out in laughter watching Hoseok’s cheeks heat up into a shade of red they didn’t think was possible.  Jiyeon snapped her head in their direction, fixing her hair and straightening her uniform as she slowly made her way over to them.

“Which one of you was it?” she asked slowly, placing her hand on her popped hip

“Take a wild guess Jiyeon” Yoongi chuckled seeing Hoseok avert his eyes back to the game

“Hoseok” she raised an eyebrow “Did you just say you’d the machine if it were a person?”

Hoseok hit the buttons on the side a few times “Maybe” he muttered

“I need a definite answer” she frowned

“Yes Noona” Namjoon laughed at the whine that escaped his friend “He did just say he would”

They watched her take a breath as she slowly pulled her uniform visor off her head “Hello Hoseok” she paused “I’m Park Jiyeon, your soulmate” she smiled, extending her hand

Hoseok blinked dumbly staring down at her hand “Oh” he said, taking her hand “Oh! Oh! Hi soulmate!” he smiled shaking her hand enthusiastically “Sorry you had that tattooed on your arm your whole life, good thing it’s gone now huh?”

“Eh, it’s fine” she shrugged “I kinda found it funny. Besides I’m sure you have something equally bad. Right?”

Hoseok paused glancing down at his covered forearm before laughing and nodding his head.

That’s where it started. With Hoseok and Namjoon in their 3^rd year of high school, Yoongi in his fourth, at the bowling alley. Since that moment, the only thing Hoseok loved more than that stupid pinball machine was Jiyeon, and Namjoon knew he wanted that more than anything else, whereas Yoongi, well he thought he could wait.
