Imprinting. The term makes Jungkook’s nose scrunch in disgust. He learned about it from his parents. His father had imprinted on his mother and turned her, him being the alpha of his own pack.

It was the phenomena that shapeshifters like him experienced when they meet their soulmates, it didn’t matter who or when it happened, the second he lays eyes on them the gravity around him is shifted and everything is centered around the one. Everyone becomes second to her and nothing can change the fact that he’s bound to her even if she rejects him - he’ll only see her.

He heard of his father’s tales of how he experienced the Earth tugging at his feet, like the sky has dipped below his feet and everything is focused on her. The second his eyes lay on her it’s as if hot liquid fills his insides and heats up every atom inside of him.

And he can agree to that. He can clearly remember spotting you that first day of school and everything in that cafeteria blurred when the only thing he could see was only you, you. He wanted to deny the idea of imprinting but he knew exactly what was happening as his body burned with an ethereal heat at having found his fated. No matter how much he hates you, and despises you for always pestering him and always getting into trouble, he finds himself watching you at the corner of his peripheral vision and letting that warmth surge through his body at the fondness his wolf has already accepted.

Boy were you going to hear it when you finally get back to Yahiko tonight. For now, Seokjin has mended and cleaned up your uniform in seconds with whispering spells that make you shiver with recognition of them. By now you’ve met Yoongi and Hoseok, both werewolves, and Namjoon a vampire just like Taehyung. They welcomed you to eat breakfast with them, despite Jungkook’s urgency to get you out of there, but you accept and find nothing to worry over having a meal with supernaturals that seem no more normal than you are. They laugh and tease each other, it feels like a family that you’re intruding on but they do well to include you in the conversations like asking about school and interests. There was nothing scary about them. They seemed normal — although they were anything but. It made you wish you had a family of your own to accept with open arms as they had.

When you’re done eating, Jungkook is quick to usher you out to head to school, ignoring the shouts of Taehyung and Jimin who insist on walking together. He knows they’ll catch up, he just needs that split second with you.

Walking alongside you, he scrutinizes your profile and feels that twinge again. He knows it must be the effect of the imprinting.

“Don’t get too cozy with them,” he finally says, “Don’t get cozy with me.”

He knows he probably won’t be able to fight the pull towards you, but he has to do everything he can to keep you from danger, the biggest threat being himself.

“If this is over the whole deal of you being dangerous to me, face it I feel safer around you than without,” you point out nonchalantly.

“You’ll come to regret saying that, if you stick around long enough,” he retorts back exasperatedly. He cursed your stubbornness, the way you trust him so easily like that without knowing the whole truth about him. He also cursed the fact that you were a magnet for trouble, he just couldn’t catch a break because you’re always somehow getting into more problems.

Perhaps maybe he liked that. It gave him an excuse to be around you. It gave him the chance to look cool and impress you by being your knight in shining armor. Shaking his head to rid of those thoughts, he despised how weak you’ve suddenly made him.

Glancing down at your smaller, much weaker body than his, his thoughts lurk back to last night and he feels a bubble of anger rise within him. Which brings to mind of last nights injuries that led him to bringing you to his abode. Awkwardly, he nudges you carefully to grab your attention.

“Um… you okay?” he mumbles, looking away to keep from getting any shyer and weirder in front of you.

You catch his shyness and smile at that, “I’m feeling better thanks to Seokjin.” At the mention of the elder, the boy deflates and pouts unknowingly, wondering why he felt disappointed that you were thanking only his hyung. “And you of course, you dork, I would’ve been dinner had you not been there!”

“You’re a pain,” he sighs, rubbing the bridge of nose, “What did I do to be stuck with you as my ma— lab partner.” He coughs awkwardly, glancing at you from the corner of his eyes, hoping you didn’t catch his slip of almost calling you his mate. He groaned inwardly, why did that sound so good.

“Who knows,” you hum as you walk ahead and he unknowingly picks up his pace to match yours. When you enter school grounds, you notice the blatant stares and the apparent whispers and murmuring of the complete nobody mortal who came walking to school with the notorious Jeon Jungkook. Hyejin comes running over as soon as you both catch one another’s eyes. The glare she sends the male is apparent, tension thickening when he scoffs and looks away. You wonder what’s the deal when she crosses her arms before tugging your body closer to her.
