Fireflies

Description

Park Jimin is bored out of his mind. What better way to cure his boredom than to drag a grumpy Min Yoongi out of bed?

Foreword

Min Yoongi had spent the majority of the summer so far indoors. Why wouldn't he? It was hot and humid outside. The sun was too warm and too bright. He would much rather sleep in his cool bed. He didn’t own a bed for nothing.

Park Jimin had spent most of his summer outside. He couldn't find a better feeling than the sun on his face and the cool water when he went swimming. He had so much expendable energy and he couldn’t think of a worse thing to do in the summer than spend time indoors all day long. Fresh air was what he yearned for even if the air was hot and humid.

It was 12:39 on a Sunday and Yoongi had spent his morning indoors, in his bed, taking a morning nap, one of his favorite activities. He had planned to make his morning nap turn into a n afternoon nap since he had nothing better to do today. He had been ignoring the buzzing of his phone. It probably wasn't anything important. Probably one of his annoying friends, or his mom or something. He didn’t care too much to answer it. He was too comfortable and figured they would stop trying eventually. However, his phone wouldn't stop ringing. Min Yoongi let out a groan, sitting up and stretching his arms out before grabbing his phone. He had 10 texts and 2 missed calls from the one and only Park Jimin. What could this boy possibly want? Didn’t he have better things to do with his time that wake Yoongi from his peaceful slumber? He answered the third call, reluctantly.

"What could you possibly want at this hour?" Yoongi said in a very monotone voice.

"Hyung, what do you mean 'at this hour'. It's literally past noon."

"I was sleeping. How am I supposed to keep track of the time?"

"Wow, Min Yoongi? Sleeping?! I would never have guessed! Well, anyways, I have now informed you that is past noon so now you know the time."

"Shut up. I'm not in the mood for your sass. Why did you call me?"

"I'm bored and I wanted someone to come swimming with me."

"You must be out of your goddamn mind if you think I'm going swimming with you."

"Would it kill you to spend one moment outside? Please, everyone else is busy!"

"I'm allergic to sunshine and water."

"Fine. Don't think that I'm not going to continue bothering you though."

"You do that. But just know that I have magical powers that I can use to turn my phone off."

"Ah yes, fairy Yoongi with his magical powers. So cute. Talk to you later, Hyung!" Yoongi grunted in reply and hung up.

--------------

Park Jimin was bored out his mind. He wasn't used to spending his time alone. He didn't know what to do with himself. All of his friends had something else to do. Except for Min Yoongi of course. He was just a grump. Jimin was quite disappointed that he couldn't convince Yoongi to come outside his house. Jimin liked him more than he might care to admit. And no matter kind of front Min Yoongi seemed to put on, Jimin had a feeling that Yoongi enjoyed his company a little, too.

Jimin had tried his other friends. Jungkook was working. Namjoon was out of town with Jin. He had no idea where Taehyung was. He assumed he had lost his phone again. Typical. J-hope was teaching a dance class.

Jimin decided that he couldn't just let Yoongi stay inside all day leaving Jimin bored and alone. Jimin was going to get Yoongi out of bed even if he had to drag his little body out the front door.

-------

Yoongi didn't live far. It was far enough that Jimin could drive there but he didn't want to. He had all day and he liked taking walks. Yoongi would certainly not be leaving his house anytime soon so Jimin wasn't in any sort of a rush.

The air was cooler than a usual summer day but hot enough that you could still complain about the heat. The humidity wasn't any more unpleasant than usual, making it a very nice day to be outside, Jimin thought.

Minutes later, Jimin found himself at Yoongi's door. He hoped it wasn't locked but it was false hope, for he knew that Yoongi wasn't the type to not lock his door. Hoping that his sleepy friend wasn't too deep into slumber, he rang the doorbell once. Unsurprisingly, after waiting a little bit, nobody answered. However, Jimin wasn't about to give up. He knew that Yoongi was home and he was bored without his company.

He tried ringing the doorbell a few more times but, again, no answer. Well, thought Jimin, drastic times call for drastic measures.

Jimin thought it a little odd that Yoongi lived in a house rather than apartment, considering how young he was, but their group of friends enjoyed it. He had a sizable backyard which they had all spent many nights in, much to what seemed like Yoongi's dismay.

Jimin also thanked god at this moment that Yoongi had a house, making it much easier to peek in his back windows.

Now, Jimin wasn't exactly sure which window was Yoongi's bedroom, but he had spent enough time at his house to have a good idea. He ran around the back of the house, hoping none of the neighbors were watching because he wouldn't want to raise suspicion. Although, the neighbors probably already knew who he was, judging by how much noise he and his friend made when together in the backyard.

Jimin tried peeking through the windows. Yoongi, being the shut-in he was, had most of the curtains drawn so Jimin couldn't really see inside to find out which room Yoongi was located in. So he just guessed. And he guessed right. The first window he knocked on emitted a groan from the grumpy man. Haha, Jimin thought to himself, I found him.

"Ughhh, go away," Jimin heard a muffled voice through the window. But he kept knocking. He wasn't going to give up on this hermit. He kept knocking until he heard Yoongi get up and walk to the window, drawing the curtain and opening the window. Yoongi's hair was messy from sleeping. and pastel blue. Like a fairy, Jimin thought. He was wearing an oversized long-sleeved white t-shirt, making him look like a child when the sleeved covered his hands. His eyes were small from sleeping and his cheeks slightly flushed, a few pillow creases on his left cheek. Jimin smiled a little at the sight. Yoongi was cute, even if he denied the fact. His thought were cut off by Yoongi's scratchy morning voice. It was the afternoon but Yoongi's voice still sounded like morning, "Park Jimin, what the could you possibly need so badly. Is this an emergency? It better be."

"It's not an emergency. Just let me in. It's the afternoon and you still haven't gotten out of bed."

“And what, exactly, does that have to do with you?”

“Absolutely everything. I’m so bored. Pleaseeeeeee will you let me in?” Jimin pleaded.

"Fine, but you better not mess with anything or eat my food," Yoongi said, pointing a finger at Jimin before closing the window and walking out of the room towards the front of his house to open the door.

Jimin ran around to the front of the house like an excited puppy. Just as he got to the front, he saw Yoongi tiredly open the door, a grumpy look on his face. Jimin grabbed the older boy’s cheeks, pulling them upward, “Cheer up, grandpa. I’m not going anywhere.”

“Unfortunately…” he replied, closing the door as Jimin walked into his house, “Also, don’t touch me.”

“But your cheeks were irresistible?”

Yoongi grunted.

“Wow, it’s really neat in here,” Jimin said, taking a walk around the place.

“Yeah, that’s because you aren’t here to mess it up.”

“Hey! It’s not all me. Taehyung and Jungkook do a great job of messing up a place.”

Yoongi just grunted in response.

“Have you even eaten anything?” Jimin asked.

“No. I didn’t get out of bed until you came banging on my window. By the way, who the does that? That is stalker level material. Most people leave someone alone when they don’t answer their phone.”

“You still love me,” Jimin smiled dorkily at his friend’s angry looking face, “Anyways, I’m making you food because I’m hungry and you haven’t eaten.”

“I thought I told you not to touch my food before I let you in.”

“You did. I ignored it.”

Yoongi sighed, giving up on arguing with Jimin, “Alright. But I’m going back to my bed.”

--------------------

20 minuted and one really messy kitchen later, Jimin had two bowls of pasta.

He strolled into the bedroom, setting the pasta on the sleeping boy’s nightstand, before deciding to jump right on top of him, waking him up.

“Ahhh, what the-”

“Wake your cute up and eat this pasta I made for you before it gets cold.”

Rubbing his tired eyes, he sat up, Jimin handing him a bowl of pasta.

“Why are you here?”

“Because I’m bored.”

“Didn’t you want to spend time with someone more exciting?”

“They’re all gone. Plus, I like you even when you’re grumpy.”

“Damn, I thought maybe I had scared you off.”

“Never.”

---------------------

The two boys had spent the rest of the afternoon watching a movie on the couch, Jimin trying to scoot closer to Yoongi, only to be pushed away.

“I’m cold,” Jimin said, with a pouty face, after he had been pushed away for the seventh time.

“Good.”

“Such a grump,” Jimin said, crossing his arms.

“You know what you signed up for,” Yoongi replied, throwing a pillow at Jimin’s head. Jimin threw the pillow back, earning a deadly stare from Yoongi, “No pillow fighting in my house, brat.”

“You started it.”

“Hmm, I didn’t ask for your opinion. By the way, what the are we watching?”

“Legally Blonde.”

“Why?”

“It’s a good movie.”

“Ugh.”

Jimin got up, walking toward Yoongi’s back door.

“I thought you were watching the movie.”

“I know what happens.”

“What are you doing?” Yoongi yelled, only to hear no reply, laying back down, trying to fall asleep.

Minutes later, Yoongi heard the back door open and Jimin coming back towards him. Jimin shook Yoongi’s shoulder.

“Yoongi come outside!” Jimin seemed more excited than usual.

“Whyyyyy….” he groaned.

“Just come,” Jimin said, grabbing Yoongi’s hand, dragging him and Yoongi reluctantly getting up to follow.

“What could there possibly be outside that you are so excited about?”

“Look,” Jimin said as soon as the stepped outside.

“Uhhhhhh…I see trees, some grass, the sky…..Normal outdoorsy stuff….”

“No, look in the air.”

“Fireflies?”

“Fireflies.”

“Okay, I’m going back inside,” Yoongi said, but Jimin still had his hand and pulled him back.

“No you’re not.”

“It’s cold out here at night. My spot on the couch is getting cold.”

“Then come closer. I’m warm.” Jimin said, pulling the older boy closer. Yoongi didn’t push him away.

“These fireflies remind me of you,” Jimin said.

“Uh..why?”

“Fireflies use their light to attract mates or prey. You have a light in you that attracts me.”

“So you want me to eat you?”

“No, I want you to kiss me.”

“What a cheese,” Yoongi laughed, wondering if it were a joke. But then he knew it wasn’t, for Jimin’s lips were on his. Jimin noticed that Yoongi didn’t push him away. The kiss was sweet and innocent. Yoongi’s lips felt gentle when Jimin kissed them. And when they pulled away from each other, Jimin half expected Yoongi to reject him. But he didn’t.

“You know,” Yoongi said, “I think I liked that as much as sleeping.”

Jimin smiled, “Well, we can do both all night.”

“Can we also go inside?”

Jimin just laughed as he followed Yoongi in the house, stopping for a moment to see the fireflies one last time.
