☂ ℑails ☂

Mark Tuan deemed himself as the golden boy. The intelligent, athletic, and kind boy that came from a prominent and successful family. He definitely has it all.  But after one tragic day that left him wifeless. He found a void in his heart. In order to escape the nightmare, he turned to the other side of the world and found solace in a family rest house on a relatively small foreign island a couple nautical miles away from the heart of Taiwan. What he thought was a vacation to forget the pain left in his heart was actually the vacation tangled in human fish tales or better yet...tails.

Boy, he was in for an adventure.

Foreword

"Tuan Yi En! How dare you talk to your grandmother that way!"

A young man with dark brown locks and deep furrowed eyebrows closed his eyes for one long moment before opening them. He had locked himself in his room, plopped down on the bed and covered a blanket over his body without a care on the booming voice that resonated throughout the house.

Despite their olden age, they sure know how to yell like his parents did when he broke his Mom's favourite china mug. He glared at the door in his room before standing up and walking to his balcony. He stared at the huge and peaceful lake in front of where his family's rest house was built and wondered how it could be that calm when everything else in the world is utter chaos.

He thought of the fact that his parent's didn't build a house near the ocean but on a large lake near the ocean with a channel that connected the two bodies of water. He could not complain because the lake was breathtaking. Mark Tuan did not fancy the ocean and sure as hell will never dream of living near it.

Mark felt something at the tips of his fingers and looked down to see a rope that he used to escape during the night when his grandparent's were sleeping. He was strictly forbidden to leave the house in the middle of the night when he learned of the rumours and tales that became the number talk and myth of the island. The stories seemed ridiculous and you will understand because he was raised in a country that do not believe in such myths.

For the two weeks duration of his stay it became a nightly ritual for him to sneak out of the house at night to get some fresh air. The dreams that haunted him were suffocating and staying in one tight room after a painful reminder of a memory will make him insane.

With one determined look he lifted himself on the railing, came down, and sprinted.

Mark found himself sitting on a boat tied on a wooden deck a couple of yards away from the house. And most definitely...away from the nagging. He gathered several stones and placed them adjacent from him and began throwing them on the water, causing ripples to form on the still lake. It was quiet. And by quiet he meant that it was eerily quiet. He was expecting to hear his next door neighbour's morning greeting or the Yu kids taking their usual morning swim. But it was silent.

He kept throwing rocks until he was down to one. He lifted the rock near his eyes and exhaled a breath.

Just make my life interesting.

He threw it.

There was a soft thud, almost as if the rock striked a concrete surface.

He stood up, dusted his pants and was about to walk away when he heard a voice.

"Ouch."

He whipped his head back to the lake, his heart thumping in nervousness.

It's probably BamBam trying to scare me again.

He snorted.

A giggle resounded.

He cautiously approached the edge of the deck and that's when he saw green.

No.

Emerald green.

It seemed to be glowing.

And then....

Tails...Fish tails.

He leaned closer and closer until he felt warm and wet lips touched his for three whole seconds before retreating back.

She was smiling at him and waved. "Hi."

Mark Tuan screamed.
