They found out she was pregnant a week after their Baeksang Arts Awards. The days that followed that event found her always feeling tired.

Joong Ki was very surprised when he woke up one morning. His hand accidentally touched hers, and she was having a fever.

“Call your doctor today. Maybe you’re having a cold. Hopefully it’s nothing serious. But still, I won’t be able to focus working if I’m worried about you. So please ask your Park Eonnie to call your doctor”

“Neee” Hye Kyo answered lazily, rolling once on the bed and wondered whether he’d allow her to sleep again.

He’s already dressed and ready for his new CF shooting that morning, while she didn’t feel like getting up.

She was starting to doze off again when she heard him speaking on the phone.

“My agency’s van will pick me up in a half hour, Noona. Can you please come before that? I don’t like leaving her alone like this”

He was talking to her manager and looking at her worriedly.

“I’m fine. I’m sure it’s just a cold. You don’t have to act like I’m having cancer”

Joong Ki ignored her and went to the kitchen to get her breakfast.

Feeling relieved that her manager had already arrived and promised she wouldn’t leave her alone until he’s home later that night, Joong Ki left after kissing Hye Kyo’s cheek.

“Are you alright? How are you feeling? You do look very pale”

“I don’t feel anything bad. Just tired” Hye Kyo said, spooning her rice and munching it.

“You’re too excited setting up this new house, that’s why. I’ll call your doctor”

Hye Kyo had a doctor who tended after her for the past decade. Since it would be too much to go to the hospital when she’s unwell, she always called her doctor to check up on her.

The calm middle aged woman pronounced that she had a cold and gave her some medicine to take. “You might start coughing soon, but it won’t be too bad if you drink this cough syrup. Hopefully after taking it for a day, we will be able to prevent your bad coughing. You get the same symptoms so often in ten years, what an easy patient to handle”

Hye Kyo chuckled at that.

“Oh yes, just to remind, remember you’ve passed your schedule to take your contraceptive injection for a week already?”

“...........I thought it should be at the end of May, Doctor?”

“Nooo, the beginning of May. I guess you’ve forgotten. If you still want to take it, I’ll give it to you next time. I don’t  bring it today”

After the doctor left, her manager and her sat silently on the dining table. The same question loomed in their head.

“I guess I’ll take this medicine first then go back to bed. I’m very sleepy” Hye Kyo said, reaching for a glass of water and her capsules.

“No, don’t” Ms. Park stopped her, “If you’re........you can’t drink medicines. Not unless it’s approved for—you know......”

Hye Kyo was even more afraid to say the words, so she said nothing and only drank the water.

“I’ll go to the pharmacy and buy some test kits” Ms. Park announced. “You stay put. Don’t go anywhere, ok? Just – just sit there until I’m back. I’ll be quick”.

Ms. Park returned with five pregnancy test kits from different brands. Hye Kyo only stared at them, a feeling of unreality started to get over her.

Without a word, she drank glasses of water until she felt she wanted to go to the toilet. Afterwards, she took all the test kits to the nearest bathroom.

Ms. Park waited outside, pacing around. She couldn’t even stand still for a second.

“Eonnie!!! Eonnie, come here Eonnie!!!” Hye Kyo screamed from the bathroom.

She burst in and found Hye Kyo sitting cross legged on the marble floor, the five test kit lined neatly in front of her.

“Eonnie, come here and see for yourself!”

Ms. Park checked all the test kits one by one, while checking the user guides.

She had been with Hye Kyo for the past sixteen years. Together, they had gone through the ups and downs of her career and personal life. She was the one who helped her wore her gowns when she went to every awards. She was the one who held her in her arms when those men broke her heart and sent her crying on her bathroom floor. She was the one who fed her porridge whenever she got ill while working abroad.

Ms. Park had been Hye Kyo’s Eonnie for more meaningful definitions than one. She loved her with all her heart, would fight anyone who hurt her to the death, and would do anything for her.

“Hye Kyo-yah. You’re pregnant.......” she said with a tone of disbelief.

“Ne, Eonnie” Hye Kyo smiled.

“.........do you want the baby?”

“Are you crazy Eonnie? Of course I do!!!”

“I just need to make sure”

“But......how will he react? Will he be happy?”

“He better be. Or I’ll poison him” Ms. Park said seriously.

Hye Kyo shivered.

“Aigoo. You’re scary!”

“Jagiya, I’m home!”

Joong Ki looked left and right in confusion. She was nowhere to be seen. Usually she’d be opening the front door for him. He always informed her when he’s on the way. It was really a first since they started to live together, to not see her the first time he entered the house.

He went to the kitchen, thinking she might be cooking dinner. But she wasn’t there too.

Frowning, he sprinted upstairs, two at a time, calling out, “Hye Kyo-ssi, where are you?”

He was already worried when he reached their bedroom door, and even more so when he found Ms. Park and Ms. Lee sitting on each side of Hye Kyo.

He was breathless. And the way the three of them looked at him, as if they had expected him to come home for a long them, really unnerved him. He’s used to seeing the two ladies with Hye Kyo, but never before did he see them sitting cross-legged looking so serious on the bed together.

“Is there something wrong?” he asked, walking closer to the bed, “Are you alright?”

When he arrived at the edge of the bed, he looked down to see five plastic.......things on the bed.

From what he knew, those had to be pregnancy test kits.

He looked up to her and studied her face.

Her sleepiness, her exhaustion and her melancholy were all because.......

“Are you pregnant?” he asked carefully.

“Ne”

“............”

“I want the baby” Hye Kyo stated, “What about you?”

Only seconds passed before he answered, but in those brief moments, his brain raced and concluded that this was it, she was readying herself if, like she had always feared, he would abandon her. She might think that a baby might scare him away and Ms. Lee and Ms. Park were definitely there to pick up the pieces of her heart and soul after he left. It was so plain to see that if she wasn’t the love of his life, he would let all hell went lose and be as furious as he could be, for being doubted after everything he’d said and done for her.

But he didn’t.

Instead, he answered, “Mworagoo??? Of course I want our baby!!!”

“..........are you sure?” she asked with wet eyes. “There really will be no turning back after this. Are you sure you want the baby? If you want to leave, you can do it now before I really can’t take it anymore”

All her insecurities, fear and pain piled up by the experiences of her past were all there on her pale face.

It squeezed his heart to see her like that. That even after everything, there was still fear in her heart.

Wishing to erase her misery as fast as possible, he quickly assured, “I’m not going anywhere. No matter what’s going to happen, I’ll protect you and our baby”

The relieved sighs of Ms. Lee and Ms. Park were loud enough to hear, before they quickly left the bed, since Joong Ki climbed it to reach for Hye Kyo and showered kisses all over her face.

“Did your doctor come earlier?”

“Ne. She reminded me to take my contraceptive injection. That’s why I remember that I’m late to take it”

“Ah. That’s why. Have you gone to an ob-gyn?”

“Not yet”

“Wae? Let’s go now!”

“Wait, wait” Ms. Park cut their conversation. “Before we all get carried away, we need to do several important things”

The couple sobered up and sat silently as their dear friend continued her speech.

“We need to contact Laneige’s management. Her contract finishes next year on 2017, but it’s clearly stated in her contract that she mustn’t be pregnant until the contract ended”

“Negotiate with Laneige” Joong Ki urged. “Anything to keep our baby”

“Call my lawyer, Eonnie. We’ll prepare to contact Laneige’s CEO as soon as possible”

“Noted” Ms. Park said. “And then of course there’s an arrangement. Would you prefer to announce your relationship to the public and marry immediately? Laneige’s contract also stated you can’t get married during the contract. But if you wish to obey the contract and keep your baby, it means you have to hide somewhere. Where would you stay? You must hide from the public until you give birth. And then of course the baby must be hidden too. Basically, you have two options. Go public, or cover the fact until you think it’s the right time to announce it”

Hye Kyo and Joong Ki looked at each other for some time.

She looked so confused and he was frowning.

“Let’s just announce our relationship. Let’s get married” he urged.

Hye Kyo sighed and kissed Joong Ki’s hand.

“Thank you. Thank you so much for wanting to do that. But no. Let’s not go public yet. You have a brilliant career ahead of you. Let’s not ruin it now”

“Jagiya.....it’s not ruining my career. It’s blessing me with letting the world now you’re mine and you’re carrying my child. I’ll be really proud. My family will, too. Let me call my company and arrange a press conference”

“No. I love you, and I want you to experience this height of your career. I’ve had mine. I’m popular again because of the drama, but it’s not the most important time for me now”

“........then what should I do? What do you want us to do?”

“........I need a little time to think. Give me thirty minutes please. I need to be alone just for thirty minutes”

“You won’t do anything dangerous, right?” Ms. Park asked worriedly.

“Of course not, why are you being so dramatic? Can you all please wait outside just for a half an hour? I need to think”

Hye Kyo pushed him out the door, along with Ms. Lee and Ms. Park.

“It’s already thirty minutes. If she doesn’t open the door in a minute, I swear I’m going to break that door” Joong Ki said in a concerned tone with Ms. Lee and Ms. Park on either side of him.

Ms. Park had been sitting with folded arms all along, brooding so seriously and planning on counter attacks and counter arguments in case it’s needed.

Ms. Lee on the other hand, had paced around the room nervously. Sitting down, standing up and muttering, until Ms. Park told her to shut it and sit down. And she listened. Everyone always listened to Ms. Park.

When Hye Kyo finally opened the door, everyone sprang up and stood in front of her, making her laughed.

“Hahaha! You’re all so funny, jumping up together like that”

“What do you want to do?” Ms. Park hurried to ask.

“Ahrasseo. I’ve made a decision. And I hope you will all agree with me”

“Anything. Anything you want” Joong Ki assured.

“First of all, like I’ve said earlier, I want to keep and raise this baby. Second, I don’t want this baby to be illegal in the eyes of God, so I want us to marry secretly and in a Catholic Rome ceremony”

“Third, I’ll take a break from the entertainment world as long as it’s necessary. This baby is more important than my career”

“Fourth, I want to stay in a beautiful house while I raise this baby. And I want it to be in Jeju. I’ll buy that house that I’ve seen before”

They were all silent after she finished speaking, until she was a little afraid.

“Do you.........disagree?”

“I agree to everything” Joong Ki answered decisively.

“I’ll go now and buy that house in Jeju for you” Ms. Park announced, happy to have a task to perform. “I’ll arrange it with your accountant. I’ll let you know when the deal is made”

“Ne” Hye Kyo nodded.

“And me? What should I do? Please tell me to do something”

“Eonnie can help arranging an appointment to a discreet but good ob-gyn”

“Will do it right away” Ms. Lee said, before quickly searching on her phone and calling a number she found, while walking outside, following Ms. Park.

Left alone, Joong Ki and Hye Kyo stared at each other.

“So.........” Hye Kyo started.

“So, we’ll be parents soon”

“Ne”

“Before anything else, we need to talk to our parents. Your mother first. Then I’ll introduce you formally to my family, finally”

“Then I’ll negotiate this with Laneige’s CEO”

“We’ll negotiate it with Laneige’s CEO. I won’t let you go alone. Then we’ll arrange our marriage with our agencies”

“UAA will support me, there’s no question in that. But what will Blossom do?”

“I don’t mean to be arrogant, but I’m their biggest asset. They’ll be stressed, but in the end they will support us”

She sighed heavily, holding her still-flat tummy.

“Will everything be alright?”

“It has to be” Joong Ki answered seriously.

She nodded, as he pulled her into his arms.

Ms. Lee had booked them a special appointment at the best, most elite clinic she could find. She had begged, explained and cajoled the Chief Medical Officer of the clinic to provide a consultation for Hye Kyo at 11 pm that evening, to avoid anyone seeing them.

And she succeeded.

The clinic closed at 10 pm, and the best doctor had agreed to attend to Hye Kyo, with his nurses ready.

It felt surreal for her to lie on the bed with the lamp on her and Joong Ki standing beside her.

But it all changed into reality when they were shown the screen, where the doctor told her the dark spots were their 3 weeks old baby. They all could hear the baby’s heart beating steadily.

Hye Kyo’s tears fell as the baby’s heartbeat seemed to fill her universe.

For a long time, life was for herself and her mother, then everyone who cared for her.

And Joong Ki came along, and he became her priority.

But from then on, the life inside her became her number one.

It’s unbelievable and incomprehensible, yet true. She would have a baby with this man who loved her so much.

When she looked up, he had tears in his eyes too.

Without realizing, they reached each other’s hands and squeezed tight.

“I’ll only prescribe vitamins for now, and a medicine to prevent nausea. Please have enough sleep and exercise lightly everyday, like walking around your complex or er—“the doctor then realized walking around the complex seemed impossible for her. “Yoga for pregnant women would be good for you, as long as you do it with a special maternal yoga instructor”

“Ye, Doctor”

“Eat as much organic food as possible, drink a lot of water and avoid junk food. Consult me again a month from now or before that if you feel any uncommon discomfort”

The doctor then wished them a good night.

After they left, the doctor took a deep breath. It wasn’t everyday that you get to attend to Hallyu Stars like them. He wished they would allow him to take pictures together so he could frame it in his waiting room. That would really make his clinic more famous, he was sure.

But he wouldn’t. He had promised them absolute secrecy. Not only because they were paying him ten times higher for receiving them so late at night and his promise for secrecy, but because the most beautiful woman in Korea bowed nicely to him when she first entered the room and the current most sought after actor in the country shook his hand happily at the end of the consultation.

He’d keep their secret not only because of the money, but because they’re genuinely good people. He met lots of arrogant rich people in his career, and it’s really not often that he met such a nice wealthy couple like them.

They looked very much in love too, and it really warmed his heart.

He wished them well, and would look forward to helping them took care of the baby during the pregnancy.

“Wow......I really must sleep on this to believe this is real. We’re having a baby” he voiced out in the car, as they sat together on the backseat and their driver played soft music.

She couldn’t say anything as she was still holding the printed picture of their baby. It looked like she wouldn’t let her hold on her belly off anytime soon, too.

“It’s still hard for me to believe that we’re together sometimes, and now you’re going to give me a child. Never knew life could be this incredible” Joong Ki smiled and kissed her cheek.

Emotion overflowed and Hye Kyo wiped her tears again. She’s so happy she couldn’t even speak after seeing the life forming inside her body with her own eyes.

She kissed the picture of the dark spots in her hand, making Joong Ki laughed and held her tighter.

Because pregnant Hye Kyo and father-to-be Joong Ki would be the cutest thing on earth.

I planned this to be a oneshot, but seems like I still have a lot more to tell on this.
