All That You Are

Description

Myoui Mina is Japan's most desired geisha. Coincidentally, so is Hirai Momo.

Foreword

mimo geisha!au.

(i'm currently reading memoirs of a geisha, and this is what came about...)

///

Her hair sits heavy on her head and her eyes are tired.

She removes each ornament off of her hair slowly, multiple pins pulling at her scalp as she fishes them out, until her hair is completely down, flowing off of her shoulders.

And although she is still in her Kimono, this is when Mina feels she is completely - when she is bare of any makeup, and she is inside the confines of her own room in the okiya, with nothing but the faint moonlight gleam to accompany her.

Mina then washes her face with a few handfuls of water with a bowl underneath her. She watches her skin turn from the familiar alabaster white, to the natural shade of the yellowish tan she is. The face in the mirror that stares back at her is now an unfamiliar sight, and it’s only at this moment when Mina herself realizes: she’s been doing this for a long time now.

Still, Mina doesn’t take her eyes off of the mirror. Her kimono dips dangerously low, just enough to cover a few centimetres above her s. She stares at her chiselled collarbones, long enough for her mind to wander; she wondered if Momo had the same thoughts as she looked at herself in the mirror, wondered if Momo had ever felt as tired as she herself often does. She wondered what Momo was doing in that exact moment. Was Momo happy? Was Momo glad to see her, just as she was glad to see Momo- did she also feel like there were butterflies in her stomach, and did her heart also beat faster, just as Mina’s often does?

Mina wished she knew.

Chapter 1: Oh god that was so beautiful and fluffy. Mina was so cute being so shy of Momo. My tummy is full of butterflies I can't even ;_;

Author-nim, I don't ship Mimo that much (Michaeng!) but this fic really gave me the feels. I think you captured the essence of the geisha rivalry as perfectly as you could. I really love the mix of Mina's pining and Momo's understanding, the slight angst that you have here is great! Thank you for this awesome story and please write more!

Chapter 1: I didn't get to read "Memoirs of Geisha" book nor watch the movie back then, and I've never Google-ed what a geisha actually does. (I'll do some research later XD ) but HEOL gahd to be honest I "swam" in this story since the beginning 'till the end (maybe because I'm one of the biggest MiMo-trash), I literally cried at the ending.
This is NOT an angst but I cried! What a weakling I am.. I mean, I can't really explain why I got so emo reading this story.
You wrote a great oneshot, author-nim. Thank you!

Chapter 1: Oh this was a great read. I've just recently started to really delve into Twice fics (as it's still a little difficult to grasp and visualize the girls in AUs as most members are so young) and historical fics are always a must read. Though they're a hit or miss if the author doesn't have any research backing up the setting and the realism course of the plot. And I gotta say this was a hit for me :). You read a famous memoir w/ lots of historical/lifestyle facts so if your aiming to write a geisha era fic, the Memoir's of a Geisha is definitely a must for research.

I'd love to see a sequel but i'm afraid their future is amything but happy xD. Their passionate form of love is always destroyed by society standards of the era. Anyway, thanks for posting this :).
