"I wanted to have a sense of realism. I needed there to be something deep and human, aside from the anime's story line, because- her intended love interest is someone who doesn't speak y'know?" [Ciani] says on Thantophobia. "She can't just run around being the everyday Mary Sue, especially, when I felt like she needed to be someone who searches for answers in someone's eyes . . . "
