Your Girl

The Makeup Artist

You lay awake in your bed in the pitch black darkness trying your hardest to get some much needed sleep.  The warm milk was not of any help and neither did counting sheep.  You rolled over to your side, rolled back, faced down and then straight up again, adjusting your head on your pillow, trying to find the right position in the dim hope that it would make your eyes heavy, but still nothing.  Everything you did and tried was an exercise in futility.  Sleep was avoiding you tonight as it did the night before.

You inhaled deeply through your nose, keeping the air in your lungs for as long as possible and then exhaled through your mouth, feeling a little calmer with every rise and fall of your chest.  But just as you were beginning to relax, that little voice inside your head has once again started to invade your peace and whine as to why he hasn’t called you yet.  It’s been two nights without a word from him.  You couldn’t help but think that his date with that bottled-blonde went amazingly well that he has totally forgotten all about you.  The thought of Wooyoung having with her right now, him stark and hovering over her just as and perfectly sculpted model body, passionately kissing and moving with each other as they cried out each other’s names is keeping you wide awake.  You hid under the covers with a deep grunt.  You couldn’t stomach the thought of it.  A pang of jealousy is surging through your body making you instantly nauseous.  Your pride and that realization that you have no claim over him were all that were stopping you from running out into the cold night in search of his stupidly handsome face.

It seems that every time you close your eyes you could see him and instead of attracting sleep, you find yourself lost in thought, memories of moments with him dancing through your mind and chasing away all chance of a peaceful rest.  You were in the middle of running the same scene in your heard for the umpteenth time when your phone started ringing and you scurried up to reach for it only to be disappointed that it wasn’t who you were waiting for all this time.

“Hey, I need you tomorrow.  Please don’t say no.”  The voice sounded rushed.  “I know you’re busy, but one of my girls got sick with something and so I’m one girl short and the magazine shoot is tomorrow and I’m going crazy over it.  It’s a big one.  It’ll be a sort of Midsummer Night’s Dream concept – well kind of…without the fur and I guess much less horns and big ears and not that much .  Something like fairyland under the moonlight.  You can do that right?  Body paints and all that stuff?”  Your friend, another makeup artist spilled the words so fast, you hardly had time to digest any in your head.  “So are you in?  Please, please, please say yes.”

You moved the phone from one ear to another and bit your lip before you spoke.  “Yeah, sure.  I think I’m available tomorrow.”

“Great.  Thanks.  Tomorrow at 10 am, Studio B.  Don’t be late.”  She said in an equal hurry before she hung up.

“Who’s the subject?”  You asked only to realize she wasn’t on the line anymore.  “Never mind.”  You sighed and flopped back down on the bed, stared at the blank white ceiling waiting for sleep to arrive.

---

“Breathe.”  You instructed yourself.  “Take a deep breath and exhale it out.  You can do this.  There’s no reason for you to panic.  It’s not like this would be a first.”  It was less than an hour ago when you were given the sample poses as guides that you found out you will be working with 2PM.  The whole 2PM this time and this to you meant a real significant issue for panic since Wooyoung will be there and you have not made up your mind on what to say or how to act in front of him.

You could not remember how many times for the past couple of nights that you have thought about what it would be like to run into him again now that you have been replaced, but it had been in an abstract way and with you all dressed up and in the arms of a prince or someone better like that.  Unfortunately, today just wasn’t a good day to be seen.  You had your hair pulled loosely back from your face and wore an oversized blue striped jumper that slid off one shoulder exposing a lacy pale halter top underneath and most importantly, without a prince in tow.  You felt somewhat grateful for not running into him before you were completely set at your station, at least you have time to powder your nose and find out if Prince Harry is available for the day.

Another half hour more and the crew were informed the group has finally arrived.  From across the set came the familiar voices of the boys as they walked into the room with bright smiles plastered on their faces.  They were greeting everyone and anyone whose eyes they meet.

You quickly took four quick sidesteps hiding yourself in one of the pillars in the room.  Wooyoung approaches and shook his head as he laughed.  “You do realize that just because I can’t see you, doesn’t mean I don’t know you are there, right?”  You gave no answer and instead stepped back out to your station and regarded him with an almost neutral expression except for the slightest pink tinge of embarrassment on your face hoping that he would just walk away.  Luck did not play in your favor as the familiar body stood right next to you.  “We still need to work together anyway.”  He sang into your ear as you pretended to look for a brush that was lying in front of you.  You chose not to respond or turn around and look at him.  You couldn’t.  You had a feeling that the images of him having passionate with that model of his would come rushing back like a massive tidal wave that will drown and choke you until you are all reduced to tears.  Wooyoung turns you around by the waist and peered down at you, it gave you no other choice but to face him.  Once again, he was in that white loose tank top that garnered a few stares from the crew.  You couldn’t help but return to the visions of his bare skin under your fingers and ignored the slight frown that was flush in his eyes.  “Is something wrong?  You don’t look happy to see me.”

Anger boiled in you.  How dare he just show up and pretend everything was okay, as if nothing happened, like he wasn’t away for a couple of days to be with someone else.  Desperate for a breath, you shook your head and brushed past him as you left your station to be anywhere but near him.  “Nothing.”

His footsteps pounded after yours, catching up with you as you strode quickly away.  “You’re acting strange.”  He twisted around as he caught up with you, walking backwards so his eyes focused on your face.

You kept looking forward determined to keep going.  “Me?  I don’t think so.  No.”  You answered coldly that even you yourself felt the chill from it.

“Who’s working on who?”  You heard the lead makeup artist call out to everyone on the floor.  “Let’s start assigning everyone to everyone.”

“I’ll work on Lee Junho!”  A look of relief mixed with excitement crossed your face as you raise your hand.

With a sharp intake of breath, Wooyoung snapped at you.  “Yah!  What are you doing?”

“Alright!”  Junho bolted out of his chair and raised his hand.  His infectious smile had spread across his lips and his eyes were already twinkling from excitement.  He was obviously enjoying this.  “Station?”  He runs to your side.

Wooyoung balled his hand into a tight fist, looking at you with a fiery expression.  “No.  You’re doing me today.  We worked together on previous occasions…multiple times.  She knows me.  She’s with me.”  He took a step forward and you took a step back, but he was able to snatch your hand before you could run away.  “Don’t just stand there.  Let’s go.”

“But she wants me.”  Junho puts an arm around your shoulder with a grin.

his upper lips and taking a breath he spat, “This thing between you and my girl is beginning to annoy me for real.  Are you really going to be like this to me?”  He looked Junho dead straight in the eyes that Junho could not help but back away and raise both his hands in mock surrender.

“I didn’t know she was your girl to begin with.  Does she know she’s your girl?”  There was silent laughter in Junho’s voice.  “You did let me date her, remember?”

He pressed his tongue against the side of his cheek and shook his head once before he replied.  “That was then, this is now.  What don’t you get about that?”  He spoke like it made absolute sense.  “She’s working with me.”  He said in a loud voice.

You walked back to your station in a hurry not wanting to hear what more they have to say.  Your heart was racing and beating wildly in your chest ready to burst through with the thought of working with Wooyoung.  He slid by you as you balanced the bottles of foundation in your hands.  “What’s going on?”  He asked as he touched your fingers.  “This isn’t you.”  You swallowed nervously trying not to give in to the memories of that hand touching other parts of your body.  But as if reading your mind, Wooyoung your bare shoulder, leaving a trail of hyper sensitized skin behind that ached for his continued touch.

You stepped back from him and he reluctantly lets go.  “Isn’t me?  Do you even really know me?”  Your nose flared in conjunction with your eyes.

“You’re…”

“You said you wanted to work with me, please sit down and let’s get to work.”  You cut him off and twirled a brush to steady yourself.  “There’ll be a lot to work on and we don’t have that much time.”  Even you couldn’t believe the false enthusiasm in your voice.

“Fine.  Let’s work.”  Wooyoung said in a monotone voice as he sat on the makeup chair.  “But after this…will you talk to me?”

You did not respond and instead pushed forward to work on his face.  You both remained in an uneasy silence as you quickly set the makeup across his beautiful face.  His eyes focused on yours, waiting for you to make eye contact with him, but you never did.  As you moved further down his jawline, you noticed a small mark at the bottom of his neck.  Your hand stilled as the thought of Wooyoung and his new girl having hot pleasurable flashes once again through your mind.  Grabbing a thicker cover up, you dabbed across his pale skin with your shaking fingers.

“Please make sure that’s not the only one.”  He sounded so obtuse and guiltless that you had to bite your lower lip to keep it from trembling.  His words caused your throat to constrict, it was getting harder to breathe and to your horror, your eyes began to sting and soon tears have begun to blur your vision.  All you could do is to look down and avoid being caught.  Seeing you, he hooked a finger under your chin and forced you to look up at him.  “What’s wrong now?”  His normal friendly expression was marred by lines of stress around his mouth and across his forehead.

“I caught something in my eye.”  You grumbled under a low breath and slapped his hand away.  “Where else do you need a thicker cover up?”

“I’m…not…sure.”  He slowly said as he inspected his neck through the mirror in front.  “I got insect bites and I think it caused some kind of reaction, like hives or something.”

“Insect?”  You snapped with a sharp intake of breath, your hands shaking.  “Does this insect even have a name?”

“I think it was some kind of spider.  I’m not really sure.”

Anger continued to seep through your words.  “Spider.  Of course.  Spider.  Right.”  You turned to grab more materials.  “So, is this spider 170 cm tall, blonde and with a perfect figure?”  You slammed the brush down the steel table and pinched the bridge of your nose hard to keep yourself from crying.  “So, what about me?  Am I an ant, a mosquito, a fly?”

Confusion spread across his face as you locked eyes with him.  “This isn’t…I mean…are you thinking…cause it’s not.”  He mumbles incoherently as he stood up.  “I was with Khun this past couple of days.  We were camping.  I got these from that stupid camping trip – with Khun.  People get hives from insect bites from camping all the time.”  He tries to explain the best he can as he places his hands on your waist to stop you from turning away.  “I was with Khun the whole time, have I mentioned that?  I was with Khun, Nichkhun – that Nichkhun.”  He points to his direction.

You gave him a hard look as your cheeks heated instantly.  “Oh please!  Did you forget?  You said you’re going on a date with that model from that shoot.”

He raised his eyebrow at you before he leaned forward and pressed his mouth against the soft skin near your ear.  “What I said to you that night…did it bother you that much?”  He asked huskily.

“No.”  You tried to shove him away, but he grabbed your hands in his and drew you closer instead.  “I don’t care.”  You bite your lip firmly unwilling to admit defeat.  “And let me go…people are beginning to look.”

“But you do care.”  Wooyoung said softly with a twisted smile, pulling you closer until your body was enveloped in his arms.  “Why can’t you just admit that you like me and want me all to yourself?”

“Let me go.  Go and date and have with anyone you – “  As you spoke a tear fell from your eye revealing your heart and with that the air between you thrummed with an electric charge.

“Don’t say things like that.  I didn’t go out with anyone, didn’t have with anyone else either.”  He brushed a tear off your cheek with the pad of his thumb unwilling to care about the people around who are beginning to stare.

“But you said-“

“But I didn’t.  I lied.”  He quietly whispered in your ear as his hand gently your back.  “I never went out with anyone else since I met you.  I never wanted to be with anyone else.  I never even considered it.  I’m only interested in you.  I just want you.”  He made sure to have his voice loud enough to be heard.  “I’m afraid you happen to be the only one for me.”

You blew out a steady breath as you melted against his chest and splayed your hand where his heart beats wildly behind his firm muscles.  “Wooyoung…”  You called out to him as if it was your first time to utter his name.

“I’m afraid I’ve always been in love with you this whole time.”  His mouth hovered over yours as he spoke.  “I love you.”  Those words swirled around you, warming you from the inside out and having everything that is surrounding you just fade away.  “Now…tell me you love me too.”
