Aaaah middle school, the habitual cesspool for raging hormones, pimples, and awk crushes. Each of us has gone through it or is going through it. And in this time “The Big P” happens. This process of graduating into adulthood is a necessary part of life, something like the bears and the bees or however that saying goes. It's a natural part of life. Hansol and his friends are no exception. For example Mingyu has long gangly limbs he knows not how to control yet. Soonyoung has B.O. Jihoon’s face resembles a pepperoni pizza. And this is just to list a few.

Hansol on the other hand is aging as gracefully as he could. Which is teenspeak for “I look like a troll but I can live with myself”. It's his first year in middle school and he's a bit nervous. No longer the energetic grade schooler he once was, he now struggles with having no eyebrows, braces that get tangled in everything he eats, and pondering why his big brother, Seungcheol spends so much time in the bathroom.

The summer before school starts Hansol was doing everything he could in his last moments as a grade schooler. Once he became a middle schooler, he knew things would change. He didn't want them to though. He just wanted to be the same ol’ same old Hansol. So, he devised a genius plan to keep from growing up.

“You know, it's not like we have to change...” Mingyu argued. He was sitting on Hansol’s porch listening to the boy ramble on and on about this so titled “fool proof plan” and being the good neighbor he was he just listened (well, mostly it was because Hansol’s mom gave him homemade lemonade and brownies so he was paying attention to that for the most part; but Hansol doesn't need to know that).

“I just don't wanna end up like my brother!”

“What happened to hyung?”

As if on cue, the boys spotted Junghan, the prettiest boy in their neighborhood, they were sure he was the prettiest 8th grader who ever lived. He was strolling hand and hand with his little brother, Chan and Seungcheol was trailing behind him like some sort of love sick puppy. Their heads followed them as Junghan “accidentally” dropped his hair tie and Seungcheol dove and scrambled to pick it up. He then got back up and presented it to Junghan like some sort of trophy but Hansol thought he was more befitting of a loser since Junghan didn't even say "thank you" and just ignored him all the same as he walked along. Seungcheol paused for a moment as if to process what had just happened and then started to chase after the long haired blonde, hand still clutching the tie.

“Yuck-!” Mingyu stuck his tongue out. “I'd die if I was that pathetic.”

“I don't even know why he's all of a sudden acting like that!” Hansol pointed at Seungcheol’s dopey walk almost not seeing the moving van that came bustling down the street noisily announcing the arrival of new people. “He's always chasing around that Junghan kid, he barely has time for me…” the truck pulled into the green and white house across from them with the sign outfront that read: sold.

“Yea, but it's just- hey,” Mingyu interjected himself. Hansol perked up and looked to where the tall boy was pointing. “New neighbor's?” they both watched as they saw a woman and a man unpacking and watched to see if they had any kids, maybe they'd make a new friend. Suddenly, right when they lost hope, a boy that looked about their age wearing a dark expression and a power rangers shirt emerged from out of the car.

“Hey, cool he likes power rangers too...Mingyu…” Hansol glanced over to his best friend to see that Mingyu was paying no mind to him. In fact, Mingyu looked dumb to everything that wasn't that boy across the street. “Mingyu!” Hansol furrowed his eyebrows growing concern of the look on his eye that mirrored that look Seungcheol gets whenever Junghan is around. “Oh come on Mingyu, don't tell me you too!”

“Huh? What do you mean…?” Mingyu questioned but wasn't really trying to hear the answer he just kept staring at the boy helping his parents move boxes. “Hey, you think we should go over there and help them?” Mingyu added totally ignoring Hansol’s theatrical sighs.

“Mingyu if you go over there, I'm pretty sure I won't be seeing you for the rest of the summer!” Hansol pleaded with the dark boy but to his dismay Mingyu didn't listen. The tall boy made his way over to the neighbor's and introduced himself. Hansol eyes narrowed at the way he started to blush like crazy when the boy introduced himself as “Wonwoo” in this low drawl that reached a few octaves below their own. Hansol leaned his head onto his hand and sighed. He was more than sure he just lost his best friend for the summer.

Hansol wanted to raise his fist up to sky and cried out, "DAMN YOU PUBERTY!"
