Paper Hearts

Annivarsary

Their anniversary was coming up. Jeongguk was panicking.

He knew that he promised Jimin not to buy anything expensive, but all the cheap gifts were…not what he was looking for. He wanted to give his boyfriend of 1 year something special. Something Jimin would remember, and Jeongguk really didn’t want to make a fool out of himself if it turned out that the shorter male didn’t like it.

The closer they were to their first anniversary, the more panicked and nervous Jeongguk got. It seemed like the days were passing by way too fast, and Jimin had been so happy lately, hinting about their special day as if Jeongguk would forget. Oh but he didn’t, not when he stayed up most nights trying to find the perfect gift for the perfect person.

They were backstage of a music show when Jeongguk had given up. He just couldn’t find the right thing to give the bright haired male and so, he sadly trudged his way over to his smaller boyfriend who was sitting on the couch, seemingly listening to music. He was going to tell the older male that he didn’t know what to give him, maybe he could suggest instead? Who knows.

He sat down, his arm naturally winding around the smaller’s waist with his head on the older’s shoulder, a sad pout clear on his face.

Jimin didn’t react, already used to the younger’s behavior and didn’t think anything about it, continuing to hum happily to a song.

Jeongguk poked Jimin’s side before speaking up, “Hyung-”

“Oh Jeongguk! Here, you really need to listen to this!”

Jeongguk frowned. “Not now hyu-”

He was cut off by Jimin hushing him and placing one headphone in his ear.

It was calm, but almost heartbreaking song. It was about one’s love being broken, the girl singing was still in love and missed the person who broke her heart, wishing for the person to not forget about them.

Suddenly, Jeongguk got an idea. He looked up to face Jimin who was smiling and waiting for his opinion on the song. With the sad words sung in his ear and the look in his lover’s eyes, he knew what he had to do, it felt like Jimin was remembering the times when Jeongguk (stupidly) pushed him away whenever he listened to this song, and Jeongguk wanted to reassure him in some kind of way.

He pulled the headphone out of his ear before grabbing Jimin’s cheeks and kissed him three times, muttering several thank you’s before rushing out of the room, leaving a flushed and surprised Jimin.

“What was that..?”

And so, Jeongguk worked on the song day in and out, perfecting every little thing that bothered him. He didn’t tell anyone about what he was doing, not even his lover. Whenever Jimin tried to get inside his closet where his recording equipment was, he immediately (carefully) dragged him outside, as to not let Jimin see it, leaving the other suspicious and slightly hopeful that it was for him.

The brunette knew that it was a sad song, but this was Jimin’s favorite right now, and it kind of meant a lot to them, Jeongguk wanted to show this song to the shorter male as if to say that he wouldn’t leave him, and also to show he was attentive and wanted to make Jimin happy. And if it something so small as remembering his favorite song, then Jeongguk would gladly do it.

The last notes filled his small closet and Jeongguk could finally release a happy but relieved sigh. The cover was done, and it was done just the day before their anniversary. He smiled to himself in satisfaction, before stretching his tired limbs.

“I hope this works…”

Now he just had to find a way to get the members out of the dorm and find a place where he could buy roses and candles. A lot of them. Jeongguk groaned.

“Being a boyfriend is hard,” he pouted.

“I’m ho-” Jimin cut himself off in surprise at what he saw. He had just come back to the dorm after vocal practice that was just 20 minutes ago, and the dorm looked empty. But someone had to be home, considering the sight before him.

The lighting was dimmed, the place lit up by the candles. Rose petals making a trail to what Jimin thought was his bedroom. Then slowly, a song started playing softly, and Jimin stood there shocked, frozen until he heard the youngest’s voice filter inside the dorm.

He came back to his senses when he heard the lyrics and the melody to the song. Paper Hearts, Jimin couldn’t believe that Jeongguk would do this for him, that he put in so much thought just to make him happyand as cliché as this was, it actually made Jimin so moved and he couldn’t wait to see his lover. With that thought in mind, he followed the path of flowers slowly, until he came face to face with his bedroom door.

He didn’t know why he was so nervous, but he took a deep breath before turning the knob and opened the door, slowly stepping inside the room. It was filled with rose petals decorating the floor, candles burning brightly, and the song still quietly playing in the background.

His lover stood in the middle with his back to him, but the taller turned around with a single rose in his hands. Jimin let out a teary giggle when he saw the younger trying to mask his nervousness, the brunette letting out a short chuckle before taking a deep breath.

Pictures I’m living through for now
Trying to remember all the good times
Our life was cutting through so loud
Memories are playing in my dull mind.”

Jeongguk was sing with so much passion, Jimin was rendered speechless. He could do nothing but gaze at the taller with awe.
I hate this part paper hearts
And I’ll hold a piece of yours
Don’t think I would just forget about it
Hoping that you won’t forget about it.”

The brunette was slowly walking towards him with every note sung beautifully, not stopping until he was right before the older. Jimin couldn’t stop the big smile forming on his face, accepting the red rose his lover gave him before looking up, eyes locking with the other’s.

“You did all of this…For me?”

Strong arms circled around his waist before tightening them, locking him in his comforting embrace.

“You honestly deserve a lot more. But… This was all I could afford.”

They both laughed quietly at the comment, both of them feeling like they were in a cheesy rom com, but it felt so good. This love they had towards each other showing so clearly unlike any other feeling.

Jimin closed his eyes when he felt the other place his forehead on his, letting out a small breathe through his nose. It was quiet for a moment, both of them basking in each other’s presence, until Jimin opened his eyes before speaking quietly.

“I love you, so much.”

“I love you too.”

Jeongguk woke up when he felt someone pulling his arms away from the other’s waist, and slowly opened his eyes with a small frown taking over his features. It was blurry for a moment but then he could see his older lover’s back turned to him, leaning over the bed and searching for something inside the bedside drawer.

He groaned before shifting closer the shorter male, wrapping his arms around his hips with his head on the other’s lap, giving a small kiss to his lower stomach, feeling the other laughing quietly at his actions.

“Come back, let’s sleep,” he mumbled out quietly, voice hoarse with sleep before tugging slightly on the other’s waist, urging him to come back. He smiled when he felt a hand run through his hair and opened his eyes, turning his head to face upwards, locking eyes with his lover when he heard the older speak up.

“Come on, I didn’t get to give you you’re gift yesterday.”

Jeongguk perked up at that, sitting up next to Jimin, waiting for him to reveal what he got for him. Honestly Jeongguk wasn’t expecting anything and he wasn’t bothered by it, but now that Jimin had actually gotten him something he couldn’t help but feel a tiny bit excited.

Jimin held up a silver pendant that looked a lot like his, but then he slowly turned it around and saw his initials with Jimin’s written onto the back of the pendant in gold. He slowly took it from Jimin’s awaiting hands before putting it on himself.

“I love it, thank you.”

He kissed the other slowly, dragging it out as much as he can before slowly pulling away. He couldn’t help but smile back when he saw Jimin’s crescent smile, feeling so loved and complete with the bright haired male next to him.

He took the other’s hand and intertwined their fingers together, giving a quick kiss to his forehead before looking down at their hands.

He then promised himself, right there, that there would be a silver band around his lovers ring finger at their fifth anniversary.
