I still remember the way his lips felt against mine when he kissed me goodbye. The call to war had come and we knew that there was nothing he could do to avoid it.  He must go, and I could not follow.

His lips. At once, they tasted of love.

Of regret, fear, overwhelming sadness...

But mostly, of love.

"I will come back. In the spring,  you'll see. The war won't last long, you know how this goes. I will be home before the roses even bloom."

He dropped a kiss to my nose then, a gesture that reminded me of all the things I loved about him, then he picked up his pack and left. I watched him go from the doorway of our small mountain home, the knowledge heavy in my heart that I would never look upon him again.

"I love you, Jiyong!" I called after him,  to which he turned to blow me a kiss. And then I watched after him until he was out of sight.

The rest of the summer passed quickly enough,  with me tending to the garden in our backyard as well as helping the neighbors with theirs. All able bodied men and women had gone to fight in this newest war of the king's progression, and that left the infirm, the young, and the old behind to care for the crops.

Harvest was hard, but I didn't mind... I got a letter from him just as the days were getting short and the nights were getting cold. He told me all that he had seen and done, and he told me that most of all, he longed to be at my side. It was wonderful to hear fro

Chapter 1: I knew this wasn't exactly going to be a happy fic and by the time I was finished, I was right. But it was delightfully well done for the amount of space you used. At first, I felt information was missing when I was done but then I went back through and found the clues that I hadn't really tuned into enough. They are delightfully subtle and by themselves, they might not have been enough. With all of them combined, it tells the less obvious story.

This clue was purposefully misleading at first: "...the knowledge heavy in my heart that I would never look upon him again."
Second clue took me a minute to connect the dots: "All able bodied men and women... that left the infirm, the young, and the old..." I even asked myself why she hadn't gone in the first read through upon hitting that first part of the sentence. O.o *face palm*
Third clue: the whole "Winter came... people sent word" sentence. That one went right over my head for a bit and then circled back to hit me in the feels when I sorted it out. :P

Beautifully bittersweet story and delightfully pulled off in a mere 500 words. Bravo my dear.

Chapter 1: This so sad, I was prepared though just not for the twist. I managed to read it without crying which is a first.
I might have cried if I had listened to the song while reading!
Even though it was short I think you quite managed to catch there personalities very well, liek the bow kiss, I coul so imagien this to happen.

Creepy though while I read this fanfiction the wife of a dog owner I sometimes goe walkies with past away. I know because I was sitting his dog at that very moment. And it wa salso the reason I had time to read this with a dog on either side of me, actualyl this might be the reason i didn't cry, having twio big dogs ( rotweiller and aussie) aside of you one can feel strangly save and calm

Chapter 1: Oh... I had to re-read the ending since I missed the important word "headstone". Oh, re-reading it gives me heartache, I love it haha. I like this short drabble, it's good for being this length.
